  • After Slughorn invited Will to dinner and Will helped Sylvia in Potions, Harry charged Snape after Snape insulted James, and Will immobilized Harry before he lost consciousness.
Chapters 826–850 Vol. 9 Read

Ch. 826Progress on the Magical University

Will captured wizards and gathered rat test subjects, then visited Samuel G. Cohog to discuss the magical university planned for Salzkammergut. He challenged the university’s reliance on traditional subjects and demonstrated a Felix Charm, leaving Cohog confronted with the potential of new magical disciplines.

  • Will captured nearby wizards in Knockturn Alley and collected dozens of rats as test subjects.
  • Will tormented Bellatrix in her cell before spending the night studying.
  • Will visited Samuel G. Cohog at the Magical Congress of the United States of America and learned that the university would be built in Salzkammergut, with construction due to begin in early January.
  • Cohog described plans to invite experts to teach traditional subjects, but Will argued that the university should develop and subdivide new fields of magic.
  • Will cast a Felix Charm on Cohog to demonstrate the value of combining potion and charm magic, leaving Cohog speechless.

Ch. 827The faithful's praise

Will explained how the Magical University could fund and evaluate research, then visited his followers in Louisiana and secretly used magic to heal and bless them. The worshippers praised the Wizard God, while Will noticed a man in the corner of the church.

  • Will outlined research assessment criteria and potential funding sources for the Magical University to Cohog.
  • Will explained that the university should explore how magic worked and advance it, unlike Hogwarts and Ilvermorny, which taught how to use magic.
  • Will Disapparated to Louisiana to check on his followers and watched a congregation praise the Wizard God.
  • Will used his Patronus Charm, healed several sick worshippers, and cast the Felix Charm on everyone in the church.
  • The worshippers praised the Wizard God after feeling healthier, and Will noticed a man in the corner.

Ch. 828The Scourers

Will discovered that Lugoman and the people at his hideout were Scourers planning to attack a gathering of wizards on January first. He incapacitated them all and stood alone in the room.

  • Will followed Lugoman from the church to a hideout where Scourers tracked suspected wizard activity.
  • Lugoman told the others that wizards were involved with a new sect and urged them to prepare for a scouring at its January first gathering.
  • Will recognized the group as descendants of anti-wizard zealots and considered turning their capture into a political achievement for Cohog.
  • Will plunged the room into darkness, and the Scourers screamed and fired their guns.
  • When the darkness cleared, every Scourer had lost consciousness, and Will was the only one still standing.

Ch. 829Doubts

Will rounded up the Scourers who had tried to hunt him and sent them to Cohog, then waited for January 1. At the Black family home, Dumbledore discussed Voldemort’s Horcruxes and the Order’s plans with Moody and Snape before Lupin arrived with news about werewolves willing to help.

  • Will searched the Scourers’ memories, gathered the people they identified, and sent Cohog a letter containing a dozen Scourers transformed into paper figures.
  • Moody gave Dumbledore the information he had extracted from the captured Death Eaters, and Dumbledore said it would help the Order strike at Tom.
  • Dumbledore and Snape discussed Will’s absence, the need to learn how many Horcruxes Voldemort had, and the Death Eaters’ growing suspicions of Snape.
  • Snape told Dumbledore that Draco was worried about his parents, and Dumbledore said he would instruct Frank not to put Draco in a difficult position.
  • Lupin brought Dumbledore verified information on werewolves in the Werewolf Mutual Aid Association and reported that a third were willing to join the fight.

Ch. 830"Divine descent"

On January 1, 1997, Will staged a divine manifestation at the First Church of Truth, using magic and emotion-manipulation to convince thousands of believers that the Wizard God had appeared. He left the congregation believing they had received miraculous healing, though the effects were temporary.

  • Thousands of believers entered the magically expanded First Church of Truth and gathered in silence for the ceremony.
  • A pastor led the congregation in praising the Wizard God while Will hovered above them and used Emotion Weaving and the Patronus Charm to fill them with warmth and happiness.
  • Will descended in a glowing, indistinct form and spoke directly into the believers' minds, silencing the church.
  • Will gathered the church's light into his hand and showered the congregation with silver motes, temporarily easing their fatigue, ailments, anxiety, and fear.
  • Believers cried out that they had been healed as Will watched and reflected that the effects came from the Happiness Charm and Felix Charm.

Ch. 831"Miracles"

Will staged miracles in the cathedral, turning the believers into fervent followers of the Wizard God and promising that devotion could make them wizards. After the congregation left, Will remained behind as his Charisma entered a special state because it had reached the world's limit.

  • Will quieted the crowd and promised to favor those who did good and punish those who forsook him.
  • Will chose several believers, including the priest, and gave them apparent magic, prompting the congregation to praise the Wizard God.
  • Will told the believers that devotion and good deeds could eventually make any of them wizards.
  • Will departed in a burst of light, and the priest urged the congregation to spread the Wizard God's gospel.
  • After the believers left, Will remained in the cathedral as his Charisma reached its limit and entered a special state.

Ch. 832The pinnacle of charisma

Will’s Charisma reached its current pinnacle, upgrading his bonus abilities and Magic-Blessed Body.MAX, and he tested his enhanced magical affinity in the Amazon. Back at Hogwarts, everyone was overwhelmed by his irresistible charisma, leaving Will concerned about meeting Dumbledore while unable to control it.

  • Will’s Charisma-series abilities reached MAX, and Magic-Blessed Body upgraded to Magic-Blessed Body.MAX before he reached LV7.
  • Will traveled to the Amazon Rainforest, where animals gathered around him, and he tested his improved spellcasting and magical affinity.
  • After Will left, the gathered animals resumed fighting around the spot where he had stood.
  • Will returned to the High Tower lounge at Hogwarts, where Harry, Hermione, and the others were struck by his powerful attraction.
  • Will worried that his uncontrolled charisma could cause trouble when he faced Dumbledore.

Ch. 833The second term of sixth year

Will used True Mask MAX to stabilize the effects of his enhanced charisma, then spent the end of the holidays transcribing and studying Voldemort’s Soul Studies research. With term beginning and Dumbledore returning, Will had to pause his experiments that might help save Scrimgeour.

  • Will left Harry and the others, then struggled to explain his unusually powerful charisma to Sylvia in the Room of Requirement.
  • Will used a Sleeping Charm on Sylvia and experimented with True Mask MAX to conceal some of his charisma, altering the memories of Dark Wizard test subjects along the way.
  • After several days of experiments, Will stabilized his condition, and the people in the High Tower began acting more normally around him.
  • Will spent the last days of the holidays copying Voldemort’s Soul Studies knowledge into three notebooks and studying its theories about the body, soul, and magic.
  • Will realized the research could help save Scrimgeour, but term began and the real Dumbledore returned before he could resume his experiments.

Ch. 834Six Horcruxes!

Dumbledore returned to Hogwarts and summoned Will and Snape to discuss the Horcruxes. Will claimed Voldemort had made six, including the Resurrection Stone ring, while Dumbledore insisted they could not delay dealing with Harry’s Horcrux.

  • Dumbledore returned to Hogwarts with Fawkes and sent Will a message asking him to visit the Headmaster's Office.
  • Will told Dumbledore and Snape that Voldemort had made six Horcruxes and identified the ring he wore as the remaining one.
  • Will said the ring’s black stone resembled the Resurrection Stone and that Voldemort had shown no interest in Hufflepuff's Cup.
  • Snape questioned whether they would act against Harry, but Dumbledore argued that Voldemort would not give Harry more time and that they could not depend on Will’s research.
  • Snape apologized for putting too much responsibility on Will, who said he was willing to do what he could to bring peace to the wizarding world.

Ch. 835Fear?

Dumbledore arranged for Frank Longbottom to impersonate him and make the Wizarding World believe his health was deteriorating. He then discussed Harry’s fear of death with Grindelwald, who suggested giving Harry something he feared losing even more, leaving Dumbledore to consider what Harry would risk his life to protect.

  • Will left the Headmaster’s Office after Dumbledore decided his dangerous mission was complete and that he should no longer be put at risk.
  • Frank Longbottom arrived disguised as Dumbledore, and Dumbledore instructed him to appear seriously ill so the Wizarding World would believe his health was worsening.
  • Snape took Dumbledore’s hair to brew Polyjuice Potion for Frank, then left the office.
  • Dumbledore argued with the Sorting Hat about involving Harry in a plan that required him to face death willingly, then went to Nurmengard to consult Grindelwald.
  • Grindelwald told Dumbledore that Harry needed a fear stronger than death, prompting Dumbledore to wonder what Harry would risk his life to protect.

Ch. 836The last tutoring session

Will completed his final Transfiguration tutoring session with Professor McGonagall, who praised his skill and gave him her personal notes. With his tutoring sessions ending and more free time ahead, he returned to the Room of Requirement and decided to study her notes.

  • Will transformed many objects into animals and then conjured a miniature forest in Professor McGonagall's office.
  • Professor McGonagall praised Will's Transfiguration, gave him her personal notes, and told him that his tutoring was over.
  • Will thanked Professor McGonagall and left, reflecting on the end of the tutoring sessions that had filled much of his life for nearly six years.
  • Back in the Room of Requirement, Will considered how to use his new free time but chose to read Professor McGonagall's notes that night.

Ch. 837Apparition Class

Will used a Warm Air Charm to clear the snow and shield the students from the cold during their Apparition lesson. After Wilkie Twycross demonstrated Apparition, Will performed it effortlessly, shocking the gathering.

  • Wilkie Twycross introduced himself as the Ministry of Magic's Apparition instructor while the students and Heads of House assembled beside the Black Lake.
  • Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape warned the students about the concentration required and the danger of Splinching.
  • Will cleared the snow and warmed the area with a charm, earning points from Professors Snape and Flitwick.
  • Twycross explained the three Ds and demonstrated Apparition after the Headmaster temporarily lifted Hogwarts' restriction beside the lake.
  • Will Apparated to the far end and back in quick succession, leaving the students and Twycross astonished.

Ch. 838Dumbledore requests your presence

Will mastered Apparition during his first Apparition Class and earned Slytherin dozens of points, while the other students struggled and Hawthorne was injured by Splinching. After class, Professor McGonagall told Will that Professor Dumbledore wanted to see him about important matters.

  • Twycross was astonished to learn that Will had mastered Apparition in his first class, and Snape, McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout awarded Slytherin points for his success.
  • Harry wondered whether he could catch up with Will, but Strange reminded him that his priority was preparing for a possible attack from Voldemort.
  • The students continued practicing and struggled with Apparition; Harry nearly fell, Neville and Ron collided, and Seamus crashed into several students.
  • Hawthorne Splinched himself, leaving his legs behind, and Twycross and the professors rejoined his body.
  • Twycross ended the lesson by warning the students not to practice alone and reminding them of the three Ds: destination, determination, and deliberation.
  • Flitwick and Snape both asked Will to meet with them, but McGonagall told him that Professor Dumbledore wanted to see him about important matters.

Ch. 839An unchanged stance

Will confronted Dumbledore about asking him to teach Harry not to fear death and about restricting his soul research. Dumbledore accepted Will’s unchanged stance, and Will arranged to see Grindelwald before Dumbledore left Hogwarts.

  • Will met Dumbledore and Frank in the Headmaster’s Office, where Dumbledore asked him to help Harry face death.
  • Will objected that teaching Harry not to fear death was effectively asking him to gamble with his life, and insisted Dumbledore speak to Harry directly.
  • Will told Dumbledore that his stance had never changed and offered to swear an Unbreakable Vow; Dumbledore said he trusted him without one.
  • Will asked to visit Grindelwald the next morning, and Dumbledore agreed before asking Will to summon Harry after lunch.
  • Will intercepted Harry and Neville on the way to the dining room and told them to meet him in the High Tower after lunch.

Ch. 840Secret Keeper

Will asked Neville to become the Secret Keeper for a Fidelius Charm, warning him that the role could put him in danger. Neville eagerly accepted and promised never to reveal the secret, even if it cost him his life.

  • Will made two love letters disappear and told Hermione not to bring him any more.

  • Will asked Neville to become the Secret Keeper for a Fidelius Charm and warned him about the risks.
  • Neville accepted the role and swore he would keep the secret even if he died.

Ch. 841Beneath the High Tower

Will made Neville the Secret Keeper for a hidden refuge beneath the High Tower, which Will planned to renovate into a shelter and laboratory. In Dumbledore's office, Harry confronted him about the danger behind his recent training and asked what Dumbledore needed him to do.

  • Will took Neville beneath the High Tower and explained that he wanted to create a secret refuge in case Hogwarts became dangerous.
  • Neville recited an oath, and Will cast the Fidelius Charm, making Neville the Secret Keeper of the underground place.
  • Will told Neville he would renovate the refuge and planned to move his laboratory and dungeon there.
  • Dumbledore felt a sudden unease while Harry ate cake in his office, then asked Harry about how he had been doing.
  • Harry told Dumbledore he knew there was a reason for his intensified training and asked what Dumbledore needed him to do.

Ch. 842You are a Horcrux

Harry asked Dumbledore to explain why Voldemort wanted to kill him, and learned that his mother’s sacrifice had protected him and that Voldemort had made Horcruxes to preserve his life. Dumbledore revealed that a fragment of Voldemort’s soul had accidentally attached itself to Harry, making Harry an accidental Horcrux.

  • Harry told Dumbledore he was ready to face Voldemort and asked to be told the truth.
  • Dumbledore explained that Lily’s love magic had protected Harry and required him to live with a blood relative.
  • Dumbledore said Voldemort wanted to kill Harry because he mistakenly believed Harry had defeated him as a child.
  • Dumbledore explained that Voldemort had split his soul and hidden fragments in Horcruxes to avoid death.
  • Dumbledore revealed that a fragment of Voldemort’s soul had attached itself to Harry, making Harry an accidental Horcrux.

Ch. 843Harry's Resolve

Harry learned that he was a Horcrux and might survive if Voldemort's soul fragment was destroyed without harming him. He resolved to fight Voldemort himself and protect Will, while Dumbledore reflected on the influence of Will and the High Tower.

  • Dumbledore explained that Harry was a special Horcrux and could survive if the soul fragment inside him was destroyed while his own soul was protected.
  • Harry accepted that he might have to die and urged Dumbledore to act, saying he could no longer stand by while Will and his friends suffered.
  • Dumbledore told Harry it was not yet time and apologized for manipulating his life.
  • Harry left the office determined to confront Voldemort himself and stop Will from carrying the burden alone.
  • The Sorting Hat criticized Dumbledore for underestimating Harry and praised Will's influence on him.
  • Dumbledore considered Will's growing ambition and looked toward the High Tower in the Forbidden Forest.

Ch. 844True Infinite Cage

Will moved the prisoners into a reinforced underground laboratory beneath the High Tower, then accompanied Dumbledore to visit Grindelwald at Nurmengard. He proposed developing the Infinite Cage so that it would prevent escape by Apparition.

  • Will reinforced the space beneath the High Tower, moved the Laboratory's prisoners into its underground house, and returned to wait for Dumbledore to leave.
  • Will met Dumbledore before dawn on Sunday, and Fawkes refused to leave Will, so Dumbledore let the phoenix come with them to Nurmengard.
  • Will and Dumbledore visited Grindelwald, who offered them coffee and asked Will what he wanted to learn.
  • Will asked about soul studies, but Grindelwald said he could not teach him much about that subject.
  • Will suggested modifying the Infinite Cage to block Apparition, and Grindelwald considered the idea a worthwhile but difficult direction for development.

Ch. 845The scale of the Magical University

Will agreed to study ways to modify Grindelwald’s Infinite Cage, and Dumbledore ended their visit after they discussed the research. At the Ministry, Scrimgeour and Ludo Bagman discussed who would oversee construction of the proposed Magical University, with Ludo pushing for his department to take charge.

  • Grindelwald explained possible modifications to the Infinite Cage, and Will agreed to research them despite their limitations against Fawkes.
  • Dumbledore ended the visit, but he and Will stayed for lunch after Grindelwald said he had hoped to eat with them.
  • Scrimgeour asked Ludo whether Will and the others had left and learned they had accepted nearly all the Ministry’s terms.
  • Ludo asked whether the Magical University’s construction would go to his Department of International Magical Cooperation or the Department of Magic Maintenance.
  • Scrimgeour said he planned to assemble a new team, while Ludo argued that his department should oversee the work and Scrimgeour accused him of wanting to line his pockets.

Ch. 846No lining your pockets!

Ludo Bagman hoped to profit from the magical university’s construction project, but Scrimgeour assigned Kane and a group of Aurors to oversee every account. Scrimgeour then ordered Ludo to put Cedric Diggory in charge of assembling an accounting team.

  • Ludo Bagman saw the magical university project as a chance to make enough money to escape his debts.
  • Scrimgeour assigned Ludo’s department to provide staff and put Ludo in charge of liaising with the Americans and handling part of the construction work.
  • Scrimgeour ordered Kane and a group of Aurors to oversee the project’s accounts and arrest anyone responsible for irregularities.
  • Scrimgeour warned Ludo against skimming money and told him to work conscientiously rather than face Voldemort on the battlefield.
  • Scrimgeour told Ludo to find Cedric Diggory and have him assemble a team to monitor all the accounts.

Ch. 847Long confined within a cage

Ludo Bagman summoned Cedric Diggory to Minister Scrimgeour, who assigned him to oversee the Magical University's accounts in Austria. Meanwhile, Fawkes left Hogwarts with Dumbledore, clearing the way for Will to begin his plans and research.

  • Ludo went to the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures to summon Cedric Diggory to the Minister's Office.
  • Scrimgeour asked Cedric to travel to Austria and oversee the Magical University's accounts, and Cedric accepted.
  • Scrimgeour told Cedric to prepare to leave early and meet the accounts supervisor from America before construction began.
  • Will watched Fawkes leave Hogwarts with Dumbledore and decided he could now advance his plans and research.
  • Will vanished from the spot with a Silver Flame.

Ch. 848Voldemort's Theories of Soul Studies

Will built the Underground High Tower and used its laboratory to investigate soul studies, hoping to solve Scrimgeour’s problem. After testing the effects of the Flesh-Stitching Curse, he reviewed Voldemort’s theories of the soul and prepared to apply them.

  • Will used magic to construct the Underground High Tower in minutes and entered its underground laboratory.
  • Will examined two Dark Wizards whose arms had been fused by the Flesh-Stitching Curse and found that their magical structures remained separate.
  • Will severed part of the fused arm, then separated the Dark Wizards and healed their wounds before stunning them.
  • Will observed a Dark Wizard’s damaged hand slowly regenerating and concluded that the soul, magic, and body formed a trinity.
  • Will consulted Voldemort’s theories on soul integrity, soul splitting, fragment size, and resonance as he prepared to test the knowledge he had learned.

Ch. 849Voldemort's soul

Will studied how Voldemort’s Horcruxes damaged his soul and body, and how Voldemort used Dark Magic and flesh-stitching to repair himself. The research inspired Will to investigate capturing the cursed part of Scrimgeour’s soul, and he began testing the curse on several Dark Wizards.

  • Will reviewed how murder and a spell split a wizard’s soul to create Horcruxes, and concluded that Voldemort had used flesh-stitching and Dark Magic to patch the damage to his body.
  • Will considered growing a new hand for Scrimgeour, then decided to test whether he could capture the soul in a severed hand without carrying the curse.
  • Will brought several Dark Wizards out of the dungeon and exposed them to the previously infected Dark Wizard to create more test subjects.
  • Will observed the subjects over several hours to determine whether the curse infected the soul directly or damaged it through the body and magical structure.

Ch. 850Harry on a rampage

Will investigated Voldemort's curse and determined that it damaged Scrimgeour's soul through the body and magical structure, leaving him to work out how to rebuild them. Meanwhile, Harry erupted at Snape in Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Will stopped him before he could land a punch.

  • Will reinforced his Underground High Tower laboratory and spent several days researching Voldemort's curse, concluding that it eroded the soul through the body and magical structure.
  • Slughorn invited Will to dinner to discuss questions for Eldred Worple's The Biography of Behrens, and Will accepted.
  • In Potions class, Will helped Sylvia with her potion while they exchanged teasing remarks about Slughorn's investments.
  • Snape insulted Harry's father during Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Harry shouted back, threatened Snape, and charged at him with a punch.
  • Will immobilized Harry and intervened, while Snape left the classroom and told them to let Professor McGonagall handle the matter.
  • Will looked at Harry, who lost consciousness.
