Background / History

Hundreds of years before meeting Lin Guang, Tamayo suffered from a terminal illness and wanted to survive long enough to see her children grow up. Muzan Kibutsuji deceived her into becoming a demon. After losing control, she killed her husband and children, leaving her with guilt she could not forgive herself for 23.

Tamayo later modified her body and freed herself from Muzan’s curse. She and Yushiro developed a way to survive without eating people, requiring only small amounts of human blood 20. Despite spending over two hundred years attempting to turn humans into demons, Yushiro was her only successful transformation 21.

She transformed the gravely ill Yushiro approximately two hundred years before Lin Guang’s later visit, and he remained beside her throughout that period. She understood his feelings for her, but her attachment to her deceased family prevented their relationship from progressing beyond their established companionship 84.

Her modifications came at a physical cost: by the time Lin Guang examined her, her stamina was lower than an ordinary person’s. He purified the remaining Muzan cells in her body and healed the hidden injuries caused by her attempts to remove them 86.

After Muzan’s defeat, Tamayo and Yushiro used the medicine that restored demons to humanity. Tamayo then joined Lin Guang’s household and chose to accompany him beyond the Demon Slayer world 127 128.

Her medical ethics extend to both feeding and transformation: she takes only harmless quantities of purchased blood and requires consent before attempting to turn a dying person into a demon 21.

Her family’s deaths continue to shape her self-image. She questions why Lin Guang would pursue a demon burdened with terrible sins and tries to reject his offer to shoulder her guilt 22 23. Asakusa Encounter and Research Agreement

Tamayo enters the story by concealing the scene around Tanjiro and helping handle the man Muzan has turned into a demon. She takes responsibility for the man and his injured wife, then sends Yushiro to escort Lin Guang, Tanjiro, and Nezuko to her mansion 19 20.

After hearing Nezuko’s history, she asks to study her blood and obtain samples from powerful demons. Both Demon Slayers agree, but Lin Guang adds a condition: an opportunity to court her. An attack interrupts before she can answer 21.

Attack on the Mansion

Susamaru and Yahaba assault the mansion while pursuing Tanjiro. Tamayo refuses to abandon the visitors and begins preparing to intervene when she worries that Lin Guang cannot withstand their combined attacks indefinitely 22 23.

Lin Guang kills both attackers before she acts. Tamayo collects their blood, and the group retreats into the basement before dawn. There, Nezuko’s embrace brings Tamayo to tears, followed by Lin Guang’s confession and unexpected kiss 23. After he departs, Tamayo expresses bewilderment at his behavior while smiling without realizing it 24.

Continuing Blood Collection

Lin Guang later collects blood from Kyogai, the former Lower Rank Six, using Yushiro’s Blood-Collection Blade. He entrusts the sample to Tamayo and Yushiro’s demon-cat courier, continuing the research arrangement made in Asakusa 28.

Over a subsequent three-month period, Lin Guang also sends his own blood and Rose’s blood to Tamayo, hoping that her research will reveal useful findings. His accompanying letters occasionally tease her romantically 67.

After Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s estate explodes, Tamayo attacks the restrained Muzan and plunges her arm into his abdomen. Outside Infinity Castle, Tamayo explains that she and Shinobu developed four medicines combined into a multilayered compound. Return to Humanity and Departure

Following Muzan’s death, Tamayo and Yushiro take injections of the medicine that restores demons to humanity. Her first action after becoming human is to visit Lin Guang. Yushiro asks him to reaffirm his promise to her, places her hand in his, and leaves to travel 127.

Tamayo recognizes her love for Lin Guang and finally releases her longstanding remorse toward her deceased family. Shinobu welcomes her into the mansion despite her irritation with Lin Guang 127.
