Hermione taught S.H.I.E.L.D. agents basic magical knowledge and explained the differences between kinds of magic users. The lesson ended when she recognized Fury’s cat Goose as a dangerous Flerken and warned the agents about its ability to swallow people.
Hermione identified Goose as a Flerken, collected a blood sample, and persuaded Fury to let her take the cat. At Fury's office, she recognized an artifact as the Inhumans' Obelisk and explained its Terrigen Crystal and danger to ordinary humans, leaving Fury asking how she knew about the Kree.
After leaving S.H.I.E.L.D., Hermione was ambushed by armed men disguised as the Ten Rings and defeated them with magic. She discovered that the attackers were Hydra operatives before an unseen assailant struck at her with a syringe.
Hermione defeated Ava’s ambush and discovered that S.H.I.E.L.D. had sent her to capture her. Ava defected after learning Hermione could stabilize her painful quantum condition, and Hermione agreed to help her periodically.
Hermione stabilized Ava’s condition, sent her back to S.H.I.E.L.D. as a mole with an Invisibility Cloak, and then met the Ancient One, who brought her to Kamar-Taj. The Ancient One asked Hermione where she came from.
Hermione told the Ancient One she came from another world, gained access to Kamar-Taj’s library and training, and acquired several spells from the Spellbook. She set out to confront the people who had attacked her, while Alexander Pierce realized she had appeared in his home.
Hermione confronted Alexander Pierce over Hydra’s attempt to capture her, disarmed him, and used the Imperius Curse to demonstrate how she learned about the plot. She left Pierce injured and warned him not to target her again, while he secretly began considering how Hydra could exploit her magic.
Hermione deterred Hydra after surviving its attack, while Fury confronted Pierce over the failed operation and Pierce began planning to eliminate Fury. Back in the Harry Potter world, Hermione spent time with her parents and endured the holiday restriction on using magic.
Hermione joined Ron and the Weasley twins in the Flying Ford Anglia and went to the Burrow, where she reunited with Harry and met Molly Weasley. The chapter ended when a pajama-clad girl saw the visitors and hurried back upstairs.
Hermione visited the Weasley family, where Molly praised her achievements and Arthur gave her confiscated alchemy materials. Hermione gifted Arthur a pistol, then used spells outside the Burrow to train without triggering the Trace’s rules.
Hermione stayed with the Weasleys, watched Goose frighten Scabbers, and traveled to Diagon Alley by Floo Powder. After Harry mispronounced the destination and landed in Knockturn Alley, Hermione went to find him but instead confronted the shopkeeper of Borgin and Burkes about Lucius Malfoy’s sale of dark magic items.
Hermione pressured Borgin into handing over a crate of illicit goods by threatening to expose his dealings to Arthur Weasley. Borgin recognized her as the witch who defeated Voldemort and gave her the goods willingly, while Harry watched her stash them away.
Hermione and Harry reunited with the Weasleys before the family went to Flourish and Blotts for Gilderoy Lockhart's crowded book signing, where Lockhart announced he would teach Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. After Draco Malfoy mocked Harry and Ginny defended him, Hermione tried to coax the frightened Malfoy into posing for a photograph with Lockhart.
Draco Malfoy joined Harry and Lockhart for photographs, but Lucius Malfoy soon provoked Hermione by praising the wizard who gave Harry his scar. Hermione turned Lucius’s words into grounds for a renewed Ministry investigation, and after the Malfoys left, she noticed Voldemort’s diary in Ginny’s book bucket.
Hermione rescued Harry and Ron after their Flying Car chased the Hogwarts Express, then attended the Sorting Ceremony and was summoned to Dumbledore’s office. Harry and Ron were sent to Snape’s office, while Hermione headed to the Headmaster’s Office to explain her unauthorized Apparition.
Dumbledore offered Hermione the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching assistant so she could cover for the unqualified Gilderoy Lockhart. Hermione accepted after learning that Voldemort’s curse on the post affected professors, not assistants.
Hermione brewed potions in Tony Stark’s lab, accidentally ruining a batch when Tony and Pepper barged in. Tony questioned whether her potions worked, then revealed he planned to make Pepper CEO of Stark Industries, and Hermione gave Pepper a necklace for her birthday.
Hermione agreed to find Bruce Banner after Fury told her General Ross had captured him, while Ross’s helicopter carried Banner away from Grayburn College. The escape was interrupted by a yellow, bone-spiked monster revealed to be Emil Blonsky, who demanded that the Hulk fight him.
Hermione helped trigger Hulk’s return during Abomination’s rampage, then stripped off Hulk’s underpants with a spell, sending him into a rage that turned the fight in his favor. As Hulk and Abomination resumed their destructive battle, Fury called Hermione and asked if she could subdue them.
Hermione negotiated with Fury for access to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s rare magical materials in exchange for intervening in the Hulk and Abomination fight. She descended into the battle, but the two monsters ignored her and resumed fighting as Fury warned Ross not to interfere.
Hermione captured Abomination and Hulk by using spells to incapacitate them, then made Hulk clearheaded with a potion. The two former enemies ended the fight as miserable captives, vomiting slugs side by side.
Hermione defeated Hulk and Abomination, then stopped General Ross from taking them and claimed them as part of her deal with Nick Fury. She used a portal to reach S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, where she appraised the magical ingredients Fury had gathered for her.
Hermione collected magical materials from S.H.I.E.L.D. and left Nick Fury with Goose before returning to Hogwarts, where she obtained dangerous plant seeds from Professor Sprout. She then read one of Gilderoy Lockhart’s books and reminded him that his first Defense Against the Dark Arts class was about to begin.
Lockhart’s Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson descended into chaos when he released Cornish pixies and proved unable to control them. Hermione froze the pixies with a spell, while Lockhart claimed the disaster had been a planned teaching exercise.
Hermione endured Lockhart’s boastful Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson, then met Luna Lovegood in the library and witnessed her briefly cast a corporeal Patronus. The chapter left Hermione grading upper-year exam papers and despairing at how poorly Hogwarts students had been taught.
