Lin Family upbringing

Lin Mu grew up as a wealthy young master in a family that treated its children as competitors rather than siblings. His father deliberately encouraged them to fight, comparing the process to raising venomous creatures together until only the strongest remained. Before gaining power in the survival world, Lin Mu survived by keeping his head down 295 644.

One childhood encounter became especially important to him: at his great-aunt’s funeral, the sickly Lin Xian defended him from a scolding. Lin Mu remembered this as a moment of kindness during despair. Lin Xian’s recollection was less dramatic—he had accidentally knocked Lin Mu over and then defended him afterward 338.

University years

Lin Mu was Ye Fei’s university classmate and dorm roommate. He initially mocked Ye Fei’s poverty and financial-aid applications, earning repeated beatings. He later recognized that Ye Fei had genuinely been destitute rather than merely pretending to be aloof 277 283.

Their university history resurfaced in the Heart-Questioning Illusion. Lin Mu repeatedly provoked Ye Fei and attempted to get him drunk before attacking him; Ye Fei nevertheless intervened when street punks arrived to break Lin Mu’s limbs 568.

Control of the family

After his forced transformation and acquisition of the Demon Clan inheritance, Lin Mu became stronger than the rest of the Lin Family. He reversed their former relationship, making relatives endure his treatment rather than remaining their target 295 424.

He deliberately left dangers around the family home, intervening only when relatives were close to death. Their dependence on his protection helped keep them obedient. He openly placed his own life, Lin Xian’s safety, and his enjoyment of Ye Fei’s household above the family’s survival 355.

The family eventually destroyed itself in a fight over an opportunity to leave. Two younger half-sisters killed their father during the chaos, unleashing years of resentment. Lin Mu and Lin Che briefly cooperated as gatekeepers, preventing anyone from escaping until they considered the conflict finished. Afterward, Lin Mu no longer wished to continue their old struggle for dominance 489.

Appearance

Lin Mu retains a humanoid appearance after joining the Demon Clan 336.

• Eyes: Long and slender 295.
• Coloration: Lin Xian described his face and hands as purple with a blackish tint, inspiring the “Purple Yam Man” comparison 336.
• Demonic aura: Frequently surrounded by purple-black demonic qi, which can also spread from the corners of his eyes 355 387.
• Wings: Can unfurl wings for flight and carry another person while airborne 587 621.
• Combat attire: Manifests armor and carries two differently shaped blades 389.

Personality

Lin Mu is theatrical, provocative, and fond of disguising his intentions behind performances. Ye Fei warns Jun Mo against trusting his outward behavior, while Lin Mu himself tries acting unusually obedient to suggest that something has happened to him. Ye Fei recognizes the performance precisely because it is so unlike his normal conduct 283 388.

His cruelty is most pronounced toward the Lin Family. He regards its relationships as contests of manipulation and survival, and initially considers reconciliation with Lin Che impossible. Even after the family’s collapse, he remains dismissive of his half-sisters and weary of Lin Che’s behavior 295 325 489.

Outside that conflict, he is capable of genuine attachment. He carefully avoids hurting Lin Xian even while taking a beating from him, envies the familial bond between Ye Fei and his pets, and becomes visibly awkward when Ye Fei sincerely thanks him for caring for the household 337 556 644.

His noisy behavior conceals deeper distress. The Elf Queen perceives his soul as dark and sorrowful, with traces of despair and self-loathing; Lingyan likewise notes that his unresolved grudges prevent him from concentrating fully on cultivation 453 496.

Dark Phoenix Soul

Lin Mu’s complete Demon Clan inheritance allows him to cultivate a Dark Phoenix Soul 278.

• The soul is explicitly awakened by Foundation Establishment Fifth Stage 387.
• His Dark Phoenix lineage places him below a Phoenix under bloodline suppression 278.
• Awakening does not grant automatic mastery: he initially cannot activate its special power even during a severe beating 391.

Demonic Qi Manipulation

Cooking

Lin Mu becomes the household’s main cook during several years under the overlapping Time Cage and Time Formation 644.
