Background / History

Life in Mondstadt

Klee is the daughter of the witch Alice La Signora. Her parents have been absent for a long time when she first meets Yucheng and Shenhe. Alice entrusted her to Albedo, whom she treats as her older brother, while Acting Grand Master Jean oversees much of her daily discipline 165 228 235.

Her homemade explosives earned her a reputation throughout Mondstadt. Yucheng recounts that she permanently altered Windwail Highland’s terrain, requiring surveyors to redraw maps. Other incidents involved damaged vehicles, storage sheds and windmill blades, forest fires, and mass fish deaths at Starfell Lake 166.

Jean regularly confiscates her bombs and sends her to solitary confinement. Klee circumvents confiscation by burying supplies outside the city, marking them on a map and with wooden signs. Dragonspine appeals to her because it is sparsely visited, outside the city, and difficult to set on fire 166.

Meeting Yucheng and Shenhe

While burying bombs near Dragonspine’s summit, Klee is startled by Shenhe’s approach and falls from a cliff. She prepares her Wind Glider, but Yucheng catches her using Kamui before she can escape on her own 165.

Klee leads her rescuers to Albedo’s camp, destroying monsters along the way. With Albedo’s permission, Yucheng and Shenhe take her out to play. Their outing includes fish blasting and grilled fish in Springvale, followed by a visit to Razor in Wolvendom 167 168 169 172 174.

In Wolvendom, Shenhe saves Klee from a Rifthound ambush. Klee then helps fight the pack, combining her explosives with Shenhe’s freezing attacks. Amber escorts the group back to Mondstadt, where Jean sends Klee to confinement over her hidden bombs and fish blasting 175 176 178 181.

Mondstadt’s Defense

During preparations against the Lawrence Clan’s rebellion, Jean discovers that Klee has turned her confinement room into a bomb-development workshop. The confiscated explosives join a warehouse already packed with supplies seized from her over the years 199.

The Knights place these bombs beneath Mondstadt’s bridge, where Amber detonates them against the Fatui advance force. Despite their effectiveness, Jean refuses to let Klee personally enter the battlefield. Instead, she assigns Klee to retrieve additional Jumpy Dumpties hidden at more than a dozen locations around the city 202 203 204.

Journey to Inazuma

Yucheng encourages Klee to visit Inazuma alongside Albedo, who intends to research the Golden Wolflord on Tsurumi Island. Jean initially objects because of Klee’s age and destructive abilities, but agrees after Yucheng arranges supervision by Naganohara Yoimiya and promises suitable places for her experiments 228.

Klee immediately bonds with Yoimiya, who knew Alice as a child. Although Albedo had prohibited fish blasting, Yucheng permits it on uninhabited islands under Yoimiya’s supervision. Yoimiya is also tasked with learning Klee’s explosive technology, an ulterior purpose that initially troubles her 234 235.

Maguu Kenki Attack

Noise complaints lead Yoimiya and Klee to seek a more remote playground on Yashiori Island. There, Klee approaches an inactive-looking Maguu Kenki, which attacks them. Their counterattack combines Klee’s bombs with Yoimiya’s arrows, but the puppet’s wind-powered double traps them against a cliff 244 245 246.

Yoimiya stays behind to cover Klee’s escape. When the puppets target Klee on the cliff and in midair, Zhongli’s Jade Shield saves her from their sword-energy attacks. Hu Tao then drives the puppets back, allowing both girls to escape 246 247 248.

Klee suffers only bruises, but her dress, backpack, and Dodoco are badly damaged. Yoimiya’s severe injuries make Klee recognize the consequences of her recklessness. During their recovery, she refuses an invitation to play and remains beside Yoimiya to help care for her 248 251 254 268.

Joint Weapons Research

After Yoimiya recovers, the two begin researching ways to make Klee’s bombs travel farther, strike more accurately, and hit harder. Albedo later joins their work. Yucheng assigns Chiyo to guard their workshop and leaves a Shadow Clone capable of moving them into the Kamui Dimension in an emergency 268.

Their later “Little Goldfish” weapon has a much longer range than expected. During tests on Jinren Island, shells accidentally reach Jean’s passing ship despite a three-kilometer military exclusion zone around the test site. Klee tearfully apologizes and insists on sharing responsibility rather than allowing Yoimiya to face punishment alone 391 392 393.

Wedding and Later Years

At Yucheng and Shenhe’s wedding, Klee meets Dori, who welcomes her warmly as the daughter of her longtime business partner Alice. Klee also contributes a drawing of the newlyweds that Yoimiya incorporates into the wedding fireworks 427 428 429.

Seven years later, Klee has become a graceful young woman and a popular rising star in Mondstadt. She still visits Albedo on Dragonspine. When he struggles with a destructive impulse, he sends her away; shortly afterward, the Skyfrost Nail crashes down and triggers an avalanche. Klee tries to return for him, but the camp’s knights stop her. With monsters attacking, she puts the search aside to fight and guide civilians to safety 457.

Appearance

  • Childhood: Small in stature, with a conspicuous red dress, a hat, and a distinctive backpack 167 234 268.
  • Four-leaf-clover motifs: Decorate her clothing and equipment. Alice and Jean taught her that four-leaf clovers bring good luck 234.
  • Dodoco: A rabbit doll attached to her backpack, which she introduces as her best friend 165.
  • Later appearance: Described as a graceful young woman after the seven-year time skip 457.

Personality

Klee is cheerful, affectionate, restless, and eager for companionship. She quickly welcomes Yucheng and Shenhe, loves having someone to play with, and enjoys petting fluffy animals—and Razor’s hair. Her admiration for Alice includes an ambition to grow up and build an enormous bomb like her mother 165 167 169 174.

Her inventiveness is especially pronounced when explosions are involved. She develops her own bombs, maintains hidden supply caches, and chooses fishing spots according to where fish remain. She also interprets Kaeya’s safety rules literally, using their wording to justify activities that still alarm her guardians 166 171 199.

Despite her mischief, Klee does not want innocent people hurt. The Maguu Kenki incident prompts genuine self-reflection, and she prioritizes Yoimiya’s recovery over playing. After the accidental shelling of Jean’s ship, she apologizes sincerely and refuses to let Yoimiya accept all the blame 251 254 393.

Abilities & Skills

Explosives Engineering

Klee independently designs and manufactures powerful bombs, including Jumpy Dumpty 166 171.

  • Her explosives can permanently reshape terrain 166.
  • Before the Inazuma incident, Yucheng states that she had never injured herself with her own bombs or suffered an accident while developing new types 166.
  • She collaborates with Yoimiya and Albedo on long-range explosive projectiles 268.
  • Her bombs’ heat, shock waves, and blast radius can threaten heavily armored targets even without a direct hit 245.

Pyro Vision

Klee channels Pyro through the Vision attached to her backpack 176 245.

  • Her attacks quickly break Cryo monsters’ shields and exploit the Melt reaction on Dragonspine 167.
  • Against Rifthounds, her explosions combine with Shenhe’s freezing abilities to devastating effect 176.
  • While using Dodoco Tales, she chants and produces fresh boom-boom bombs in her hands 245.

Jumpy Dumpty

Jumpy Dumpty is Klee’s signature homemade explosive 167.

  • Bouncing detonation: Bounces three times, producing an explosion with each bounce 176.
  • Secondary mines: Splits into smaller booby-trap bombs that cause further explosions 176.
  • Aerial bombardment: Klee can guide a gigantic airborne explosive that showers targets below with numerous sparks, providing blanket coverage 176.
  • Limitation: Her throws lack the speed and accuracy needed to reliably hit the Anemo-enhanced Maguu Kenki 245 254.

Combined Weapons Development

Klee supplies explosive power while Yoimiya provides more accurate delivery 245 254.

Development Function Limitations / Results
Bomb-tipped arrows Yoimiya binds Klee’s bombs to arrows with bandages 245. After recalibrating for the extra weight, Yoimiya lands a shot that forces Maguu Kenki onto one knee. Their supply of binding material eventually runs out 245 246.
Long-range explosive arrows Developed jointly after Yoimiya’s recovery; Albedo joins the research 268. Intended to improve projectile speed, accuracy, range, and destructive force 268.
Little Goldfish Mortar-like cannons launch shells along a parabolic arc; the warheads explode on impact rather than in midair 391. Their unexpectedly long range causes the accidental shelling of Jean’s ship 393.

Gliding and Drawing

  • Wind Glider: Klee prepares to deploy it during her first cliff fall and later uses it to escape the cliff face during the Maguu Kenki battle 165 247.
  • Drawing: Her artwork is immature but recognizable enough for Yoimiya to reproduce Yucheng and Shenhe’s likenesses in wedding fireworks 429.

Equipment / Items

  • Dodoco — Rabbit doll and cherished best friend. Badly torn by flying rocks during the Maguu Kenki attack; Yoimiya promises to repair it 165 248.
  • Backpack — Carries bombs, bears her Pyro Vision, and holds Dodoco. It absorbs much of the flying debris during her cliff escape 166 176 247.
  • Dodoco Tales — Used while channeling Pyro and producing bombs against Maguu Kenki 245.
  • Treasure map and markers — Record the locations of buried bomb caches 166.
  • Teyvat Travel Guide — A copy of Alice’s book, which Kaeya has read to her; Klee retrieves it when she recognizes Zhongli’s connection to her mother 249.

Relationships

  • Alice La Signora — Mother and role model. Klee misses her absent parents and wants to emulate Alice’s bomb-making 165 167.
  • Albedo — Guardian and older-brother figure. Klee respects his “Experiment in Progress” sign, frequently visits his laboratory, and remains deeply attached to him after growing older 165 235 457.
  • Jean — Supervisor and disciplinarian. Confiscates Klee’s bombs and orders confinement, but refuses to expose her to the horrors of Mondstadt’s battlefield 181 203 204.
  • Uchiha Yucheng — Rescuer, playmate, and protector, addressed as “big brother.” Arranges her Inazuma visit and safeguards her research 165 228 268.
  • Shenhe — Affectionate older-sister figure and protector. Saves Klee from a Rifthound; Klee later hopes Shenhe’s baby will make her a big sister 175 380.
  • Naganohara Yoimiya — Caretaker, close friend, and research partner. Risks her life protecting Klee, who subsequently stays beside her throughout recovery 235 246 268.
  • Kaeya — Trusted adult who teaches her three survival rules and reads Alice’s travel book to her. Klee also notices his habit of skipping work 166 249 268.
  • Razor — One of her best friends. Klee enjoys visiting him and the wolves in Wolvendom 174.
  • Amber — Fellow knight who escorts Klee home and offers to play with her once the Rifthound emergency is resolved 178.
  • Zhongli and Hu Tao — Rescuers during the Maguu Kenki attack. Klee calls Zhongli “Uncle” and wants to become strong like Hu Tao so she can protect Yoimiya 247 248 249.
  • Dori — Alice’s business partner, who takes Klee to see her toys and develops an affectionate desire to look after her 427 428.
