Arc 15The Fall of the Frozen Throne

Jiang Jie and his allies raced to stop Illidan’s bombardment from freeing Yogg-Saron, then fought through Icecrown Citadel against Arthas and the Old God’s servants. Tyrande’s power, channeled through Anveena, shattered the Frozen Throne and destroyed Ner’zhul’s soul, but Arthas survived the citadel’s collapse.

  • Jiang Jie broke into Illidan’s ritual on Quel’Danas, and the Eye of Sargeras exploded after Maiev destabilized it, cracking the Frozen Throne and loosening Yogg-Saron’s prison.
  • Jiang Jie warned Illidan and the others that the ritual threatened to release Yogg-Saron, then joined them in a rush to Icecrown while Arthas traveled there through Azjol-Nerub and accepted the Old God’s aid.
  • Jiang Jie’s group forced open the Wrathgate and fought through Icecrown Citadel, where Vashj and the Naga stayed behind as Illidan, Jiang Jie, and the others pressed toward Arthas.
  • Arthas received the Lich King’s remaining power and fought Illidan as the others battled Kel’Thuzad, Anub’arak, Volazj, and the Scourge.
  • Maiev trapped Illidan and Arthas nearly killed him, but Jiang Jie’s Phoenix Arrow struck Arthas and gave Maiev time to attack, and Jiang Jie and his allies also wounded Anub’arak.
  • Arthas fled toward the Frozen Throne with Anub’arak, intending to unite with Ner’zhul and become a Demigod, so Jiang Jie asked Tyrande to invoke Elune’s power while his allies held off the Undead.
  • Tyrande channeled the Moon Goddess’s power through Anveena, and Jiang Jie fired her as an arrow that shattered the Frozen Throne and destroyed Ner’zhul’s soul.
  • Kael’thas teleported Jiang Jie and the others away as Icecrown Citadel collapsed, while Arthas rose from beneath the rubble.

Ch. 352Xiantian Fifth Layer (2/4)

Jiang Jie welcomed the Worgen to the Fenris Isles and continued building Sky City beneath the World Tree while cultivating until he reached the Xiantian Fifth Layer. His quiet period ended when Cenarius summoned him to help Maiev against Illidan and Kael'thas in Northrend.

  • Velinde admired the World Tree, and Jiang Jie told her the Worgen would make Wolf Island their home and plant Nightbane there.
  • Jiang Jie oversaw Anveena and the four Elemental Spirits as they began moving the Fenris Isles into the canopy to build Sky City.
  • Jiang Jie spent half a month cultivating beneath the World Tree and reached the Xiantian Fifth Layer.
  • Cenarius told Jiang Jie that Illidan and Kael'thas were bombarding Northrend from the Isle of Quel'Danas and that Maiev needed his help.

Ch. 353The Lich King's Call (3/4)

Jiang Jie took Old Chen to Silvermoon City to reach Quel'Danas and stop Illidan from overusing the Eye of Sargeras. Meanwhile, the Lich King's waning power drove Arthas to prepare an expedition to Northrend.

  • Jiang Jie decided Illidan had to be stopped before the Eye of Sargeras damaged Northrend and released Yogg-Saron, and recruited Old Chen to help.
  • Jiang Jie and Old Chen traveled through the portal to Silvermoon City, where a mage told Jiang Jie that no portal to Quel'Danas was available because of arcane turbulence and undead.
  • Jiang Jie requested two dragonhawks to fly to Quel'Danas, while the mage decided to inform the Queen Regent about his visit.
  • Arthas felt his power and control over the undead weakening, and the Lich King warned him that Illidan was attacking the Frozen Throne.
  • Arthas ordered Falric to assemble the strongest troops and all warships for a journey to Northrend, leaving Kel'Thuzad in charge of Gilneas.

Ch. 354Bombarding Northrend (4/4)

Kael'thas helped Illidan and the Naga sustain a dangerous ritual with the Eye of Sargeras at Sunwell Plateau while hoping to plant an Arcan'dor seed afterward. Maiev attacked the ritual site, and Kael'thas's trap failed to stop her from pursuing Illidan.

  • Kael'thas reflected on obtaining an Arcan'dor seed and planned to plant it after the ritual was finished.
  • Kael'thas watched Illidan use the Eye of Sargeras in a ritual powered by the High Elves' and Naga witches' ley-line array.
  • Kael'thas guarded the ritual as Maiev killed three High Elf mages and several Naga, while the Eye warped the surrounding space.
  • Maiev threw her moon glaive and killed another High Elf mage, triggering Kael'thas's Phoenix Flame trap.
  • Maiev emerged unharmed beneath a nearby tree, still intent on hunting Illidan.

Ch. 355The terrifying Watcher (1/4)

As the Lich King's weakening grip gave Thassarian and Koltira a chance to recruit other freed undead, Illidan's ritual shook Northrend and drew Maiev's attacks. Kael'thas faced a new assault on the ritual, where Tyrande and Lady Vashj confronted each other.

  • Thassarian and Koltira began secretly searching for undead who had escaped the Lich King's control, hoping to build the Forsaken's ranks while Arthas prepared to leave Gilneas.
  • Illidan's ritual caused tremors across Northrend and northern Lordaeron, worrying Sylvanas as she learned Kael'thas was on the Isle of Quel'Danas.
  • Kael'thas ordered the High Elf mages to defend the ritual and sent Al'ar to attack, but Maiev vanished before he could find her.
  • Tyrande arrived on a Storm Crow and fired arrows at the Naga witches maintaining the ritual.
  • Lady Vashj destroyed Tyrande's arrows with lightning and confronted her, declaring that Tyrande deserved to die.

Ch. 356Then, break! (2/4)

Tyrande and Malfurion tried to stop Illidan’s ritual while Vashj and the Naga attacked them, and Kael’thas protected Illidan from Maiev. Just as Illidan neared completion, Jiang Jie found a flaw in the High Elf barrier and fired an arrow to break it.

  • Tyrande attacked Vashj, who dodged her moonlight and fought back with arrows while Malfurion arrived and confronted Illidan.
  • Illidan continued the ritual, and Kael’thas chose to defend him as Vashj sent the Naga against Malfurion and Tyrande.
  • Kael’thas caught Maiev in a gravity spell, but she vanished before he could kill her.
  • Jiang Jie arrived above the battlefield, identified a flaw in the High Elf barrier, and fired Thori'dal at it to break through.

Ch. 357A legendary melee (3/4)

Jiang Jie and Maiev disrupted Illidan’s ritual, causing the Eye of Sargeras to explode and damage the Frozen Throne, while the blast awakened Yogg-Saron. Illidan attacked Jiang Jie, and the battle escalated as Old Chen, Maiev, Tyrande, and Vashj intervened.

  • Jiang Jie opened the High Elf barrier with an enchanted arrow, and Maiev killed four Naga witches and scratched the Eye of Sargeras, destabilizing Illidan’s ritual.
  • The Eye of Sargeras exploded, sending a beam to the Frozen Throne that worsened its cracks and weakened the Lich King.
  • The disturbance loosened Yogg-Saron’s prison, and the Old God awakened Vezax, Volazj, and other servants.
  • Illidan blamed Jiang Jie for stopping his plan and repeatedly punched him, but Old Chen blocked Illidan and struck him back.
  • Maiev attacked Illidan, but Jiang Jie’s arrow deflected her moon wheel while Tyrande and Vashj joined the fight.
  • As Illidan faced Maiev and Old Chen, someone called for Uncle Chen to stop.

Ch. 358An Explanation for You (4/4)

Jiang Jie stopped the fighting and explained why Illidan’s bombardment of the Frozen Throne could endanger far more than Northrend. He warned that it might damage the Nexus or Ulduar’s prison and release the Old God Yogg-Saron.

  • Jiang Jie stopped Old Chen from attacking Illidan, then ordered Vashj and Tyrande to end their fight.
  • Vashj called off the Naga, and the others gathered around Jiang Jie, waiting for an explanation.
  • Jiang Jie challenged Illidan over his plan to bombard the Frozen Throne and warned that continuing could cause greater harm than good.
  • Tyrande realized Illidan was targeting the Lich King, but Malfurion and Kael'thas questioned the dangers and consequences of the ritual.
  • Jiang Jie warned that the bombardment could disrupt the Nexus or damage Ulduar’s prison, releasing Yogg-Saron and threatening the world.

Ch. 359The Fiend of a Thousand Maws, Yogg-Saron (1/4)

Jiang Jie revealed that Illidan’s bombardment had further weakened Yogg-Saron’s Titan prison and warned that the Lich King was preparing to unite with Arthas. The group disagreed over when to launch a northern expedition, with Jiang Jie insisting they act before the Lich King gained his freedom.

  • Kael'thas explained the legends of the Old Gods to Illidan, while Malfurion recalled that Northrend’s ancient trees had warned him about Yogg-Saron.
  • Jiang Jie told Malfurion that Vordrassil’s roots had reached Yogg-Saron’s prison, leading the Druids to destroy the World Tree after Alexstrasza and Ysera warned them.
  • Malfurion confirmed that the Dragon Aspects had revealed Yogg-Saron’s existence, and Jiang Jie said the Old God’s power had seeped out through several events, including Illidan’s bombardment.
  • Jiang Jie warned that the bombardment had shortened the time before Yogg-Saron’s prison failed, while Illidan stayed silent rather than disclose his plan involving Kil'jaeden, the Burning Legion, and Sargeras.
  • Kael'thas argued that the group should wait for the Lich King to weaken and gather more allies, but Jiang Jie urged them to go to Northrend immediately.
  • Jiang Jie revealed that the Lich King was summoning Arthas so they could become one, warning that a free Lich King would be far more dangerous.

Ch. 360Anub'arak (2/4)

Illidan and his allies set out for Northrend to destroy the Frozen Throne before Arthas could reach it, while Arthas sought a shortcut to Icecrown Glacier. The chapter ended with Anub'arak offering to lead Arthas and Kel'Thuzad through the underground kingdom of Azjol-Nerub.

  • Illidan agreed to lead an assault on the Frozen Throne, and Malfurion, Tyrande, Kael'thas, Jiang Jie, and Old Chen joined him.
  • Jiang Jie objected to Vashj and the Naga, but Illidan kept them as allies because he needed their help.
  • Vashj and the Naga joined High Elf mages in weaving a teleportation array, and the group teleported to Northrend.
  • Arthas arrived in western Dragonblight with Kel'Thuzad and learned that the Lich King's power was draining as they approached Icecrown Glacier.
  • Anub'arak appeared and offered to guide Arthas and Kel'Thuzad through Azjol-Nerub to reach Icecrown Glacier directly.

Ch. 361Dragonblight (3/4, next chapter a little later)

Kael'thas's group teleported to Dragonblight and met Krasus, who warned them that the Lich King's uncontrolled power was driving the Frost Wyrms into a fiercer assault. With the red dragon mage leaving to defend Wyrmrest Temple, Jiang Jie and the others set out for Icecrown Glacier on their own.

  • Kael'thas opened a large teleportation array that brought the group to a wasteland north of Wyrmrest Temple.
  • Anveena greeted Krasus, who praised her growth and warned Jiang Jie to protect the new World Tree from becoming another Vordrassil.
  • Malfurion asked to see Alexstrasza, but Krasus said she was recovering and did not want to meet them.
  • Kael'thas challenged Krasus over the red dragons' failure to act against the undead, and Krasus explained that the Dragon Aspects avoided intervening in mortal affairs.
  • Krasus saw hundreds of Frost Wyrms gathering overhead, transformed into a red dragon, and flew off to join the battle.
  • Jiang Jie urged the group to hurry toward Icecrown Glacier without Krasus's help.

Ch. 362Mountain lord, Frost Wyrm (4/4)

Arthas and Kel'Thuzad followed Anub'arak through Azjol-Nerub toward Icecrown Citadel after Arthas learned it was under threat. They defeated Muradin's dwarves and Arthas raised their leader, Baelgun, as a death knight before ordering the Scourge onward.

  • Arthas used Frostmourne to resurrect the blue dragon Sapphiron as a powerful Frost Wyrm, and Anub'arak gathered undead to lead the group toward Azjol-Nerub.
  • The Scourge fought their way past the living nerubians, and Arthas learned that an enemy force was heading for Icecrown Citadel.
  • Arthas and Kel'Thuzad encountered Muradin Bronzebeard's dwarves, who had allied with nerubians and knew the underground kingdom's routes.
  • After pursuing the dwarves through Azjol-Nerub for seven hours, the Scourge surrounded them and defeated them.

Ch. 363The Faceless Ones in the Depths of the Spider Kingdom (1/4)

Arthas and his Scourge forces broke through the sealed passage into the deepest part of the Nerubian Kingdom, where they encountered the Old Gods’ servants, the Faceless Ones. After resisting a whisper that promised him power, Arthas drew out a giant Faceless One, which offered to lead him to its master.

  • Baelgun told Arthas that an ancient darkness identified as Yogg-Saron had awakened beneath the Nerubian Kingdom, and Anub'arak and Kel'Thuzad recognized the name of an Old God.
  • Anub'arak smashed through the rubble blocking the route to Icecrown Glacier, and Arthas led the group past dead Nerubians and fleeing survivors.

  • A purple Faceless One three times larger than the others emerged from the darkness and offered to take Arthas to its master.

Ch. 364Bargaining with a Tiger (2/4)

Arthas learned that Herald Volazj served Yogg-Saron, an Old God whose power dwarfed even the Lich King, and heard Volazj offer help against Illidan and the others. After Kel'Thuzad urged him to accept, Arthas decided to take Yogg-Saron's aid to survive the immediate crisis.

  • Arthas questioned how Volazj's master could be a barely mobile mass of flesh, and Volazj explained that it was only a small part of Yogg-Saron's vast body beneath Northrend.
  • Yogg-Saron invaded Arthas's mind with visions of the Old Gods ruling Azeroth, commanding the Elemental Lords, and creating the Faceless Ones and Aqir.
  • Volazj offered to help Arthas defeat Illidan and obtain what he wanted, then absorbed part of the flesh and grew powerful enough to rival Anub'arak.
  • Kel'Thuzad told Arthas that Yogg-Saron was imprisoned and had its own reasons to oppose Illidan, and urged him to accept the offer.
  • Arthas chose to seek Yogg-Saron's help because the Lich King needed support against the Legendary opponents threatening Icecrown Citadel.

Ch. 365Wrathgate (3/4, the next chapter will be rather late)

Jiang Jie and his allies reached the Wrathgate and fought through the Scourge to open it. They entered the passage toward Icecrown Citadel, closed the gate behind them, and continued toward the Lich King.

  • Malfurion, Tyrande, Kael'thas, Illidan, Vashj, Old Chen, Jiang Jie, and their forces raced across Dragonblight toward Icecrown Citadel.
  • Jiang Jie identified the Wrathgate as their fastest route and decided to force their way through the Undead guarding it.
  • Jiang Jie used the gaming pod to locate the gate controls, and Anveena flew inside to open the gate.
  • Kael'thas and the High Elf mages, Vashj and the Naga, Malfurion and Tyrande, Illidan, and Old Chen fought off the Scourge as Anveena opened the passage.
  • Jiang Jie and the survivors entered the passage, closed the gate behind them, and set off toward the Lich King.

Ch. 366Icecrown Citadel (4/4)

  • Arthas arrived at Icecrown Glacier with Kel'Thuzad, Anub'arak, and Herald Volazj, learning that hundreds of thousands of Undead were stationed there.
  • The Lich King warned Arthas that enemies had breached the Wrathgate and entered Icecrown Citadel, so Arthas led his forces toward the main entrance.
  • Jiang Jie used the gaming pod to scan the Undead and guide his group through Icecrown Citadel toward the Frozen Throne.
  • After a prolonged fight against waves of Undead, Illidan ordered Vashj and the Naga to stay behind and hold them off.
  • Jiang Jie’s remaining group continued forward and finally came face-to-face with Arthas.

Ch. 367A concerto of ice and fire (1/4)

Jiang Jie confronted Arthas at Icecrown Citadel and discovered that the Scourge had joined forces with the Faceless Ones. After the Lich King empowered Arthas, Illidan attacked him, and the chapter ended with Illidan revealing his full strength and matching Arthas.

  • Jiang Jie saw Arthas arrive with Anub'arak, Sapphiron, elite undead, and Faceless Ones, and realized the Scourge had allied with servants of the Old Gods.
  • Jiang Jie challenged Arthas over his ties to Yogg-Saron, prompting the Lich King to turn his psychic storm on Arthas.

  • Illidan rushed at Arthas and was knocked back when their weapons clashed.
  • Illidan revealed his Metamorphosis, bringing his power to roughly match Arthas's.

Ch. 368A clash of primal savagery (2/4)

Arthas and Illidan moved their battle away from the Frozen Throne, while their allies fought across the citadel. The chapter left Malfurion charging into a brutal clash with Anub'arak and the Nerubians.

  • Arthas sealed the path to the Frozen Throne with an ice wall, then led Illidan to a larger battlefield.

  • High Elf mages intercepted the necromancers and liches Kel'Thuzad summoned to help him.
  • Anub'arak led Krik'thir the Gatewatcher, Elder Nadox, and the Crypt Fiends into battle, but Malfurion's bear form battered the Nerubians and crippled Krik'thir.
  • Malfurion armored himself in thorns and bark, then charged Anub'arak in a head-on contest of strength.

Ch. 369Divine Art of Sabers and Swords (3/4)

Tyrande and Malfurion defeated Elder Nadox with a coordinated arrow-and-nature spell, while Old Chen held off Baelgun, Herald Volazj, and other undead. Jiang Jie took to the sky to face five Frost Wyrms and more than a hundred Gargoyles, wielding Strom'kar and beginning to use the Five Great Mountains Sword Art.

  • Tyrande killed Crypt Fiends with Arrows of the Moon Goddess and struck Elder Nadox with an enchanted arrow.
  • Malfurion accelerated the arrow's growth with a nature spell, turning Elder Nadox into a tree and killing him as Tyrande healed Malfurion.
  • Old Chen used his storm, fire, and earth forms to hold off Baelgun and the undead while his original body fought Herald Volazj and the Faceless Ones.
  • Jiang Jie flew into the sky with Strom'kar to confront five Frost Wyrms and over a hundred Gargoyles.
  • Jiang Jie recalled learning the Divine Art of Sabers and Swords from Xiao Feng and starting with the Five Great Mountains Sword Art.

Ch. 370Slaying ghost dragons with the sword (4/4)

Jiang Jie fought the Frost Wyrms and Gargoyles in the sky, adapting his sword styles to defeat them. He finally killed Sapphiron after a prolonged battle, but had spent most of his chi.

  • Jiang Jie killed a Frost Wyrm with the Eastern Peak Sword, then survived the combined Frost Breath of four Frost Wyrms by avoiding contact with the ice around him.
  • Jiang Jie broke free of the ice and killed a second Frost Wyrm with the concentrated flames of the Western Peak Sword.
  • Jiang Jie switched to the Southern Peak Sword and slew nearly thirty Gargoyles, then killed two more Frost Wyrms as Sapphiron retreated.
  • Jiang Jie fought Sapphiron through its frost and arcane spells, severed thirteen bones in its wings, and killed it after five minutes.
  • With the sky clear, Jiang Jie had used up most of the chi in his body.

Ch. 371Jiang Jie's rate of fire (1/4)

Jiang Jie joined Old Chen’s fight against Herald Volazj, Baelgun, and their forces, using Thori'dal to kill several enemies and ease the pressure. The battle seemed to be turning in the heroes’ favor until a glint of cold light appeared.

  • Jiang Jie saw that Old Chen was wounded and outnumbered by Herald Volazj, Baelgun, Faceless Ones, and Death Knights.
  • Jiang Jie switched to Thori'dal and fired magical arrows at the enemies while Old Chen held the front line.
  • Jiang Jie and Old Chen killed several Death Knights and a Faceless One, though Herald Volazj’s illusions briefly trapped Jiang Jie.
  • Jiang Jie broke free from Volazj’s next illusion in one second, while Old Chen killed two Faceless Ones and further eased the pressure.
  • Malfurion and Tyrande cleared the Crypt Fiends and faced Anub'arak together, making the heroes appear close to gaining the upper hand.
  • A glint of cold light appeared and made Jiang Jie’s expected victory impossible.

Ch. 372A spell ten thousand years in the making (2/4)

Maiev ambushed Illidan alongside Herald Volazj and used a spell she had researched for ten thousand years to imprison him through his demonic bloodline. As Arthas prepared to strike Illidan’s heart, Maiev blocked Frostmourne, and the battle’s other fighters clashed while Jiang Jie remained the only one able to help.

  • Maiev appeared behind Illidan and attacked while he fought Arthas, and Herald Volazj used Mind Flay to stun him.
  • Maiev stabbed Illidan and used a spell powered by the Moon Goddess to trap him through his demonic bloodline.
  • Arthas thrust Frostmourne toward Illidan’s heart, but Maiev blocked the strike long enough for the others to act.
  • Anub'arak attacked Malfurion, and Tyrande redirected her arrow to save Anub'arak rather than help Illidan.
  • Kel'Thuzad attacked Kael'thas, Volazj sent the Faceless Ones against the defenders, and Old Chen split into elemental pandas to hold them off.
  • Jiang Jie was left as the only one capable of helping Illidan.

Ch. 373Sun Bow, Phoenix Arrow (3/4)

  • Jiang Jie fired a Phoenix Arrow at Arthas, piercing his Anti-Magic Shell and exploding fragments and Phoenix Flames inside his chest.
  • Arthas was forced to pull Frostmourne from Illidan, leaving Illidan alive but exhausted and unable to resist.
  • Jiang Jie called on Maiev to help and flew upward with a second arrow ready.
  • Maiev threw a shadow-charged dagger into Arthas’s chest and attacked him with her crescent blade.
  • Maiev ignored Arthas’s accusation and decided she had only been using Yogg-Saron, not serving him.

Ch. 374The same trick, one more time (4/4)

Jiang Jie and the others wounded Arthas and Anub'arak, but Arthas escaped toward the Frozen Throne with Anub'arak to join with the Lich King. Jiang Jie realized that if they failed to stop him before that happened, the battle could become hopeless.

  • Maiev overwhelmed the wounded Arthas in close combat while Jiang Jie shifted his Phoenix Arrow's aim from Arthas to Anub'arak.
  • Jiang Jie shot Anub'arak from above, and Tyrande followed with an epic arrow through the wound while Malfurion made a sapling grow inside it.
  • Arthas and Anub'arak met, and Arthas used Frostmourne to freeze and destroy the sapling in Anub'arak's wound.
  • Arthas knocked Maiev aside, then fled with Anub'arak up the stairs toward the Frozen Throne as Jiang Jie sensed a vast Undead force gathering.
  • Jiang Jie realized Arthas intended to join with the Lich King Ner'zhul and become a Demigod, which would leave his enemies unable to defeat him at Icecrown Glacier.

Ch. 375The splendor of that arrow (1/4, sorry this was a little late)

Jiang Jie relied on Tyrande to destroy the Frozen Throne with a powerful arrow while Kael'thas prepared a teleport spell and the others held off the Undead. The chapter ended with Tyrande praying and her allies launching their defense as Malfurion and Old Chen joined the fight.

  • Malfurion transformed into Wolf Form and led the attack against the Undead to keep them away from Tyrande.
  • Jiang Jie called on Anveena as the battle against the Undead began.

Ch. 376The true winner (2/4)

Jiang Jie and his allies destroyed the Frozen Throne with the Arrow of the Moon Goddess, but the blast triggered Icecrown Spire’s collapse. Kael'thas teleported most of the group to Dragonblight, leaving Maiev behind as Arthas rose from the rubble.

  • Tyrande channeled the Moon Goddess’s power through Anveena, who became an arrow that Jiang Jie fired at the Frozen Throne.
  • The arrow shattered the Frozen Throne and destroyed Ner'zhul’s soul, unleashing a psychic storm that broke the chains and destabilized Icecrown Spire.
  • Anveena secretly retrieved the Lich King's armor, while Jiang Jie gathered the others around Kael'thas as the tower began to collapse.
  • Kael'thas teleported the group toward Dragonblight after Malfurion and Tyrande stopped Maiev from joining them.
