Background
Lin Xi studied abroad from a young age and returned with an extensive network of overseas acquaintances. He holds an international driver’s license and has business partners in the Land of Sand 5 49 51 171.
His family pressures him to marry and produce an heir. He joins Heartbeat Radio Waves while pretending to be poor, hoping to find a gentle, kind partner who values him rather than his wealth. During the first episode, he claims to deliver roughly a dozen food orders a day 7 34.
His identity becomes public during the second episode, when he summons his family’s chauffeur and luxury car for a grocery-shopping trip. The production team identifies him as a finance professional, CEO, and wealthy family heir 34.
Appearance
- Height and physique: Describes himself as six-foot-one with eight-pack abs 9.
- Early wardrobe: Wears a cheap jacket while maintaining his poor-man persona 34.
- After his identity reveal: Changes into a bespoke suit, wears a large gold watch, and slicks his hair back with hairspray 34.
- Temporary injuries: Wears casts on both arms after attempting to catch Su Mian; subsequently films a short-drama scene in a wooden wheelchair 114 118.
Personality
Lin Xi is proud, short-tempered, and intensely competitive. When Cheng Qin identifies his mood swings as his principal flaw, he accepts the assessment. His determination to defeat Su Mian repeatedly overrides his comfort: he spends an entire day hiding in a cramped, insect-filled attic rather than let her win a game 32 45 48.
He initially treats Su Mian’s interest in money as evidence of poor character and assumes revealing his wealth would make her pursue him. He also repeatedly mistakes her practical actions or competitive maneuvers for romantic interest 3 9 35 51.
Despite his temper, his judgments are not fixed. He acknowledges that Su Mian’s criticism of his deception has merit, reassesses Fang Nuonuo after she uses him as a shield, and eventually recognizes that falsely accusing Su Mian could have caused serious harm. He can also accept a fair defeat: after answering a question incorrectly, he pays rather than make excuses about his overseas education 8 20 51 70.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Dates and Mistaken Rescues
Lin Xi’s first date with Su Mian becomes an exchange of insults intended to raise each other’s heart rate. He then pretends to confess his feelings, planning to make her regret rejecting him. Su Mian slaps him out of his seat just before a chandelier—cut down by Duan Xuanyu’s sword qi—falls onto it. Believing she deliberately saved him, Lin Xi immediately becomes less disdainful toward her 3.
Their room-sharing dispute exposes the weakness in his assumed identity. Su Mian questions his claimed delivery workload and condemns wealthy men who pretend to be poor to test women, leaving him in tears. After watching her rescue an assistant from a fire, he admits to himself that some of her criticism was justified 7 8.
He subsequently offers to share a bed with her. Duan Xuanyu throws a fruit knife at him, while Su Mian kicks him aside out of irritation. Lin Xi again interprets her attack as a rescue and suggests they get to know each other, only to be rejected 8 9.
Fang Nuonuo and the Wild Boar
Paired with Fang Nuonuo for a hunting activity, Lin Xi initially admires her apparently rapid construction of a large trap. However, he also asks where she obtained the cage and how she hoisted it without tools, nearly exposing the inconsistencies in her account 17.
He later believes her claim that Su Mian and Duan Xuanyu used their trap to catch a wild boar. He demands compensation and attempts to seize Su Mian’s prize envelope, but Duan Xuanyu stops him 19.
When Su Mian releases the boar to demonstrate their ability to subdue it, Fang Nuonuo pulls Lin Xi in front of herself. Su Mian kicks him clear, and she and Duan Xuanyu overpower the animal. Lin Xi becomes more disgusted with Fang Nuonuo’s hypocrisy than with Su Mian’s demands for money. Later, he instinctively gives Su Mian the first skewer of meat he finishes grilling, then denies preparing it for her 19 20.
Fang Nuonuo subsequently tells him in private that her actions were arranged by the production team for entertainment. By the next episode, his resentment toward her has softened 32.
Public Identity and Competitive Rivalry
After his wealth is revealed, Lin Xi expects Su Mian to change her attitude. Instead, she uses him as the “pea” in a ten-minute Princess and the Pea reenactment, burying him beneath blankets to win first choice of rooms 34 35.
His rivalry with her continues through several activities:
- Latin dance date: Refuses to cooperate because he blames her for spreading stories about his diarrhea. Su Mian nevertheless completes the task with a dance routine that exploits the wording of the rules 38.
- Werewolf battle: Hides in the attic all day to prevent her from winning. Staff eventually retrieve him while packing the guests’ luggage, leaving him covered in insect bites 45 48.
- Zoo confrontation: Challenges Huang Han’s claimed overseas education, exposing contradictions in his account. Lin Xi insists he is not defending Su Mian; she thanks him with diarrhea medication 49.
- Team game and quiz: Loses after Su Mian modifies the characters’ appearances and his taunt backfires. He then incorrectly names Confucius as the author of The Analects and accepts the required payment 51.
Parenting Activity and the Walnut Accusation
Lin Xi and Su Mian become a temporary parenting pair responsible for Xiaolu. His attempt to match the child’s toy-gun bravado makes Xiaolu cry, and Lin Xi unsuccessfully offers to call the boy “Dad” to calm him 59 62.
During their family activity, Su Mian asks about his food preferences. He interprets the question as genuine consideration, unaware that she intends to cook with ingredients he dislikes. He rejects the resulting fruit dishes and cilantro coffee, but the other households’ poor cooking eventually brings him back to her doorway 64 66 67.
When Fang Nuonuo apparently suffers a walnut allergy, Lin Xi initially doubts that Su Mian would poison anyone. Nevertheless, he pressures her to prove her innocence. Su Mian deliberately throws walnut powder over the accusers, prompting him to accuse her of trying to kill Fang Nuonuo and completing her mission to maximize his disgust 69.
After discovering that he misunderstood the incident, he offers Su Mian a hand-prepared coffee as an apology but still partly blames her for not presenting evidence sooner. That night, he dreams of a withdrawn version of Su Mian who endures false accusations and ostracism before dying by suicide. He wakes understanding that the current Su Mian escaped harm because she could defend herself—not because the accusations were harmless 70.
Seeking Su Mian’s Attention
Lin Xi later tells Cheng Qin that he has been looking for a chance to make amends. Their official pairing does not displace his attention toward Su Mian 86 97.
During preparations for an improvised period drama, he becomes excited when Su Mian resumes arguing with him. When she slips, he tries to imitate Duan Xuanyu’s one-armed rescue technique. She twists into a jump and lands on his outstretched arms, breaking both. He initially maintains his CEO persona through the pain, then runs to the hospital after Gu Yichen warns him about the consequences of delaying treatment 114.
He returns in casts to play a court agent pursuing Duan Xuanyu’s character. Later, even Su Mian’s insults reassure him that she is behaving normally. By the overseas trip, he openly complains that she once targeted him constantly but now treats him as invisible 118 127 165.
Stranded in the Land of Sand
Lin Xi leads the guests to the designated airport pickup point, where they board a minibus that turns out to be a trap. Armed locals take their phones and passports, and the group is brought to the Stringy Squid Compound 165 167 168.
After Duan Xuanyu enables their escape, the minibuses run out of fuel near a city. Lin Xi investigates a church advertising free eggs and returns with a bruised nose and swollen face. Later, because he has gone the wrong way twice, the others refuse to follow him on another search for the production team 168 170.
He is chased by children demanding money until a fellow countryman alerts officials. The stranger explains that begging is illegal locally. Lin Xi then contacts the embassy to seek help reaching the production team 171.
Su Mian’s Mission Statistics
Lin Xi is one of Su Mian’s targets for accumulating Disgust Points. These values track his changing attitude toward her, not cultivation or combat strength 9 16 70.
| Chapter | Recorded Value | Cause or Significance |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Disgust: 2 | Believes Su Mian saved him from the chandelier. |
| 8 | Disgust: 99 → 0 | Her kick enrages him until he notices the thrown knife and interprets it as another rescue. |
| 9 | Disgust: 30 → 60 | Su Mian rejects his invitation to get acquainted and mocks his appeal. |
| 16 | Disgust: 85; affection: 0 | Su Mian checks his panel after their advertising-related clashes. |
| 20 | Disgust: 90 → 45 | Fang Nuonuo’s use of him as a shield makes her seem worse than Su Mian. |
| 48 | Disgust: 0 → 66 | Had fallen to zero after Su Mian rescued Yin Xiaohong’s sister, then rose during his attic vigil. |
| 59 | Disgust: 55 → 12 | Falls sharply when Su Mian compliments his abs. |
| 64 | Disgust: 75 → 0 | Mistakes her questions about food preferences for concern. |
| 67 | Disgust: 92 | Remains below maximum despite the cooking dispute and her mockery. |
| 69 | Disgust: Maximum; stage task complete | Believes throwing walnut powder at Fang Nuonuo demonstrates murderous intent. |
| 70 | Panel disabled | His panel turns gray, preventing Su Mian from viewing further affection or aversion changes. |
