Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Low-Class Saiyan — slightly above 2,000 | 1 | Retrospectively identified as his power level before his Tree of Might gains. |
| Tree of Might enhancement — above 30,000 | 1 | Rose from slightly above 2,000 through consuming Tree of Might fruit; suitable growing planets remained scarce. |
| Measured power level — 35,000 | 5 | Dodoria's scouter confirmed his strength during his audience with Frieza. |
| Additional fruit enhancement — 38,000 | 6 | Ate another fruit at Frieza's request, increasing his measured power by 3,000. |
| Full power — approximately 60,000 | 47 | Retrospective measurement of his strength before the Grand Elder unleashed his potential. |
| Potential Unleashed — above 100,000 | 42 47 | The Grand Elder strengthened his ki; a later scouter test exceeded the device's 100,000 detection limit. |
| Base power — estimated at least 1,000,000 | 51 | Reached after roughly six months of training incorporating Earth's martial arts, weighted clothing, and self-injury followed by Senzu recovery. |
| Pseudo Super Saiyan | 51 | Used Dragon Balls to remedy his missing S-Cells, then learned to stimulate them without fully activating them. Mastering the state took nearly two months. |
| Super Saiyan | 75 79 101 | A fleeting golden burst accompanied his defeat of Slug; Frieza subsequently proclaimed him a Super Saiyan. His full golden transformation was explicitly displayed against Cooler. |
| Advanced ki application | 119 | Demonstrated the ability to disperse Cooler's energy attack with one finger and cut his metal armor with a ki blade. |
| Momentary muscular-form switching | 137 138 | Began combining ordinary Super Saiyan mobility with brief muscular transformations at the moment of impact; switching still created exploitable delays. |
| Tail-amplified Super Saiyan state | 272 273 | Directed Super Saiyan ki into his tail to activate a dormant ferocity factor, sharply enhancing his body and energy at a severe control and stamina cost. |
| External-energy amplification | 277 | Used Spirit Fission to draw in energy prepared by Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Gotenks, then forced the combined power into his tail despite intense physical strain. |
| Instinctive defensive state | 361 362 | Awakened automatic evasion under Frieza and Granolah's assault. Silver light appeared, but attempting to attack immediately disrupted the state. |
| God Ki use | 379 | Demonstrated a crimson-haired state sustained by God Ki; the supplied passage shows the energy draining away rather than its initial acquisition. |
| God-Ki-refined Limit Form | 379 | Used the influx and departure of God Ki to temper his own power. His resulting dark red, furred form possessed ki approaching—but still inferior to—God Ki in quality. |
Background / History
The original Turles was sent from Planet Vegeta to conquer a low-level planet while still a child. A spaceship malfunction severed contact with headquarters before he could return, inadvertently allowing him to survive Frieza's destruction of the Saiyans. His long isolation also left him unaware of the universe's strongest fighters 1.
By the opening chapter, a transmigrator from another Earth's civilization occupied Turles's body. Turles had found the Tree of Might, broken away from Slug, and taken his loyal followers with him. Unlike his original self, the transmigrator understood that fruit-based growth alone would not protect them from Slug 1 13.
He chose the Frieza Force as a temporary refuge, despite knowing Frieza's role in Planet Vegeta's destruction. He felt little attachment to Saiyan ancestry and regarded Earth or Namek as better long-term destinations, but initially lacked Earth's coordinates. Before approaching Frieza, he prepared a carefully rehearsed account of his past and considered an escape route 2 3 5 7.
Appearance
Turles closely resembles Bardock, a likeness that immediately attracts Frieza's attention. The resemblance is attributed to the limited gene pool of Low-Class Saiyans, not established kinship 4 5.
- Base form: Black hair and a furry Saiyan tail, commonly wrapped around his waist like a belt 7 30.
- Uniform: Wears a Battle Suit bearing the Frieza Force insignia; one suit includes an adjustable weight-increasing function 7 46.
- Super Saiyan: Upright golden hair, green eyes, and a golden aura 101 273.
- Tail-amplified state: Retains his Super Saiyan appearance while his unwrapped tail carries golden-red lightning 273.
- Instinctive defensive state: Associated with faint silver particles, a silver halo, and silver coloration in his eyes 361 362.
- God Ki and refined Limit Form: His God Ki state has crimson hair; the subsequent Limit Form features dark red fur, an ape-like appearance, a dark red tail, and dark red eyes 379.
Personality
Turles is cautious, pragmatic, and highly conscious of power imbalances. His early deference to Frieza is deliberate: he rehearses his statements, controls his body language, and distances himself from Saiyan royal loyalties to avoid appearing threatening. Even rapid promotion makes him wary of becoming too closely bound to the Force 3 5 11 32 34.
His morality is compromised rather than indiscriminately cruel. He admits that self-interest can lead him to tolerate evil, but his upbringing as an Earthling prevents him from approving of it. This tension appears in his willingness to carry out an invasion-related assignment on Planet Kalen while later directing the Sixth Branch toward protecting oppressed planets 13 25 26 77.
As a martial artist, he values earned strength, disciplined technique, and precise application over raw power. Defeat does not extinguish his curiosity: Merus's overwhelming superiority increases his desire to improve. His habit of constantly calculating, however, becomes an obstacle when he tries to attain a tranquil, instinctive fighting state 190 230 322 429 447.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts and Ki Application
Turles develops his fighting style through Earth's martial arts and the continuing study of how power is applied, rather than relying exclusively on transformation multipliers 51 230.
- Controls combat rhythm through economical dodges, changing attack patterns, and counters timed between an opponent's movements 112 190 213.
- Concentrates ki into individual strikes, blades, protective layers, and large-scale energy attacks 105 119 189 190 311.
- Disperses an incoming energy ball with one finger and cuts Metal Final Form Cooler's armor with a hand-generated ki blade 119.
- Uses Meteor Explosion during his attempt to overwhelm Android 17 112.
- Continues strengthening his base form to improve transformation control and reduce bodily strain 230.
Super Saiyan Techniques
His transformation training includes both incomplete S-Cell activation and attempts to redistribute Super Saiyan power for more efficient combat 51 138.
- Pseudo Super Saiyan: Maintains a false activation of his S-Cells without fully awakening them 51.
- Super Saiyan: Supplies the power used to contend with Cooler's final form 101.
- Muscular-form switching: Reserves the slower, bulkier form for the instant of attack while using ordinary Super Saiyan movement between strikes 138.
- Limitation: The muscular transformation can still slow his movement enough for an experienced opponent such as Dabura to counter 138.
Tail Amplification and Limit Form
Turles discovers on Yardrat that feeding Super Saiyan power back into his tail activates a dormant ferocity factor 273.
- Dramatically increases physical strength, speed, and ki, allowing him to overwhelm Hirudegarn 273.
- Requires several times his normal concentration to preserve precise control and rapidly consumes stamina and ki 273.
- Can accept additional energy through the same pathway, though forcing immense mixed energy into his tail causes severe pain 277.
- Later refines his Limit Form's energy by analyzing and harnessing God Ki as a catalyst; its quality remains below true God Ki 379.
Incomplete Ultra Instinct
Turles first reaches automatic evasion while nearly beaten to death by Frieza and Granolah. His mind becomes calm while his body responds independently 361 362.
- Evades successive attacks without conscious movement planning, including while his eyes are closed 361 362.
- Cannot attack automatically; the intention to strike collapses the state 362 410.
- Can deliberately leave the state to counterattack during an opening 362 410.
- Is not invulnerable: Moro's feints interfere with his evasion, and Moro's energy-devouring field bypasses his protective ki shield 410 412.
- Later pursues greater mental simplicity through Roshi's advice and physically punishing training with Broly 429 446 447.
Instant Transmission
- Teleports himself and companions, including Tights and Cacao 47.
- Uses teleportation tactically to intercept Hirudegarn's escape 268.
Spirit Fission
- Draws prepared energy from Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Gotenks into his own body 277.
- Channels the absorbed energy into his tail for further amplification 277.
Evil Containment Wave
- Learns the sealing technique from Master Roshi and successfully performs it on Roshi during practice 429.
- Retains enough control to lower Roshi safely back onto the beach rather than complete the sealing 429.
Command and Instruction
- Holds authority over the Frieza Force's military affairs and coordinates senior commanders during preparations for war with Cooler 79 81.
- Handles trade agreements and emphasizes stability, development, and sustained profits when advising Frieza 200 207.
- Trains Trunks and Goten in ki control, endurance, and independent field operations 231.
- Adapts his teaching to Broly's psychology, discovering that criticism makes him submissive while concern for Paragus can stimulate his power 446.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Destroyer: His original spaceship; later overhauled by Reiz and Lakasei using Frieza Force resources 1 15.
- Frieza Force Battle Suit: Insignia-bearing armor, with a weight-increasing function used during training 7 46.
- Scouter: Used to locate Earth's strongest fighters and assess power; an older model cannot measure his strength beyond 100,000 46 47.
- Tree of Might fruit and seeds: Central to his early growth and his break with Slug; their scarcity makes them an unreliable sole training resource 1.
- Senzu Beans: Obtained from Korin Tower and used to recover from self-injury training, whose benefits eventually diminish 51.
- Capsule spaceships: Upgraded by Dr. Brief, reducing travel between Earth and the base to as little as one week 86.
- Ring-powered Time Machine: Bulma determines that his ring can power three trips; reaching the correct timeline requires careful destination calculations 157.
Relationships
- Frieza — Employer, sovereign, and regular sparring partner. Turles initially seeks protection under him, later saves his life and becomes his general. Their partnership retains tension over concealed information and their relative strength 2 75 79 200 423.
- Amond, Daiz, Cacao, Reiz, and Lakasei — Loyal followers who accompany him out of Slug's service. Turles previously helped Daiz avenge the pirate invasion of his home planet 3 7.
- Slug — Former superior turned pursuer. Slug blames Turles for taking everything from him, while Turles rejects any suggestion that they could have conquered the universe together 1 75 80.
- Tights — Initially his route to locating Earth, later a reluctant associate he brings away from Planet Kalen. Her opinion of him improves, but she resents his surveillance; suggestions that he keeps her on Earth out of affection remain unconfirmed by him 19 25 52 86.
- Son Goku — Recruited into Turles's branch and treated as a younger brother. Turles reassures Chi-Chi about wages, family visits, and Capsule Corporation support, but the supplied context does not establish a biological sibling relationship 59 77.
- Grand Elder — Benefactor who unlocks his potential. Turles hesitates over the possible lifespan cost and promises to protect Namek 42.
- Son Gohan — Fellow fighter and ally in rebuilding another timeline's Earth. Gohan thanks him for helping restore the planet and promises to continue training before their farewell 131 157.
- Vegeta — An initially antagonistic fellow Saiyan. Turles openly dismisses the authority of Vegeta's princely title after Planet Vegeta's destruction 11 13.
- Merus — Superior martial artist and teacher who challenges Turles's understanding of cultivation and guides his instinct-focused training 322 330 331.
- Trunks and Son Goten — Students entrusted with independent anti-pirate missions and encouraged to demonstrate their Fusion Technique 231 246.
- Master Roshi — Teaches him the Evil Containment Wave and advises him to pursue simplicity, naturalness, and mental tranquility 429.
- Broly — Student and training partner. Turles helps him master Super Saiyan, then uses his escalating attacks to challenge his own excessive conscious calculation 446 447.
- Tapion — Prospective ally whose proposed self-sacrifice Turles refuses because killing him might release Hirudegarn instead of destroying it 246.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Entry into the Frieza Force
- Secures Frieza's acceptance with a carefully prepared history and a power level surpassing Zarbon's transformed state 5.
- Cooperates with a Heeters Group operation, breaks into Planet Kalen's government bunker, and defeats its super soldiers, Spear and Shield 15 25.
- Earns promotion to the A-rank roster with independent operational authority. Frieza subsequently proposes making him the Force's “fourth cornerstone,” and he becomes Sixth Branch commander 31 32 57.
Earth, Namek, and the General's Appointment
- Accepts the Grand Elder's potential-unleashing ritual, reaches Earth, and develops Pseudo Super Saiyan through intensive training 42 47 51.
- Recruits Earth's fighters into a branch distinguished from the wider Force by its protection of weaker, oppressed planets 59 77.
- Saves the badly wounded Frieza from Slug, oversees headquarters during Frieza's recovery, and is appointed the first general to command all the Force's military affairs 75 78 79.
- Urges caution before war with Cooler, organizes deployments and base defenses, and later gains the upper hand against Cooler's final form 81 101.
Androids and Another Timeline
- Initially overwhelms Android 17, but loses ground when Android 18 joins the battle and the siblings exploit his draining stamina 112.
- Develops more sophisticated ki application and experiments with momentary muscular transformations against Dabura 119 138.
- Fights Cell as a decoy to help locate Babidi's spaceship and prevent Majin Buu's emergence; Cell overpowers and carries him away 131.
- Helps restore another timeline's Earth. A year after peace returns, he receives Bulma's ring-powered Time Machine and prepares to return to his own timeline 157.
Consolidation and Hirudegarn
- Challenges Jass's rapidly growing power with martial arts and concentrated ki, arguing that immense strength is useless without understanding its application 190.
- Admits concealing the Dragon Balls from Frieza to prevent unrest, emphasizing stable development and profits over disruptive wish-seeking 200.
- Defends the changed Frieza Force as a peacekeeping power while explicitly rejecting identification with the old Saiyan order 203.
- Opposes Hirudegarn and Majin Buu, unveils tail amplification, and draws on his allies' energy against Phantom Majin Buu 268 272 273 277.
Merus, Baby, and Moro
- Travels toward the Land of the Dead on a mission concerning its barrier with the living world, fights Janemba, and begins deeper training under Merus 296 298 304 312 322.
- Investigates a devastated Planet Frieza and discovers Baby's possession of Frieza. Under attack from Frieza and Granolah, he awakens instinctive evasion 348 349 361 362.
- Uses God Ki to refine his Limit Form, earning Merus's praise without overcoming the enormous gap between them 379.
- Counters Moro through incomplete Ultra Instinct, but ultimately suffers a crushing defeat as Moro exploits its defensive limitations and drains his energy 410 412 423.
- Seeks Roshi's guidance and trains with Broly before later confronting Saganbo, whose sudden power increase forces him to abandon a casual defense 429 446 447 457.
