Background / History

Defeat and Return to the Skyrite Mountains

Tristan was born in the Skyrite Mountains, sharing his birthplace with the Four Divine Beasts but lacking their superior bloodlines. More than five hundred years before his first appearance, Laius defeated him while both were Midgods. Tristan escaped through his Innate Divine Ability and subsequently left the mountains, encountering opportunities that helped him become a Highgod 5 7.

He returned to kill Laius and seize his Divine Spark, expecting his higher realm to guarantee victory. Instead, Laius’s mastery of the Laws of Wind forced him onto the defensive. Bowen joined the battle and helped trap Tristan with increased gravity, allowing Laius to sever his arm 5 6.

After more than an hour of hiding in the shadows, Tristan’s divine power began running low. Unable to outpace Laius, he offered to abandon his revenge if allowed to leave. When Laius continued attacking, Tristan consumed his precious crimson fruit 6.

The enhancement let Tristan overwhelm Laius in direct exchanges and ruin Bowen’s defensive armor. He survived the combined use of Bowen’s Seal and Laius’s Tiger Roar by becoming insubstantial. Before he could finish Laius, Redding intervened, slowed time with Dragon Roar, erased the Darkness clone’s soul, and took its Highgod Divine Spark 7 8.

Survival and Rise to Sovereignty

Tristan’s Water Midgod clone survived on an island in the Infernal Realm’s Chaotic Sea. Recognizing that it could not defeat Redding, he chose to conceal himself and cultivate. He subsequently left the Infernal Realm for the Celestial Realm, where he advanced to Highgod and obtained a High-level Sovereign Spark 8 42.

Despite his new rank, Tristan had no Sovereign followers and little territory. His small central holding lay between the domains of Fate Sovereign Norman and Light Sovereign Bryan, exposing him to the effects of their recurring conflicts 42 46.

Creation of the Water Divine Plane

Tristan encountered Redding again when the Sovereigns assembled to create the Water Divine Plane. He withheld his revenge because Redding arrived with six other Sovereigns, whose ranks and full capabilities he had not determined 42.

When the other Water Sovereigns ignored his initial call to begin, Tristan warned that refusing the task would invite punishment from the Laws of the Universe and the Four Overgods. The seven Water Sovereigns then gathered Sovereign’s Might for thirty thousand years before shaping the plane over another eighty thousand years. Tristan created its largest continent and substantially improved his fusion of the Water Laws 43 44.

He invited the Water Sovereigns to settle there, secretly intending to engineer their deaths, recover their Sovereign Sparks, and build a loyal faction. Most relinquished their claims rather than remain. Redding secured two continents and nearby sea amounting to nearly a third of the plane; an unnamed Lower Sovereign retained a smaller territory, and Tristan claimed the remainder 45.

Renewed Pursuit of Redding

Tristan initially postponed killing Redding, intending to let him develop his territories before taking them. Later, his sole subordinate reported that Redding had accompanied Nemo to the Fire Divine Plane’s creation site while most of their allies remained at the Earth Divine Plane 45 49.

Tristan seized the opportunity and pursued Redding into Spatial Turbulence, rejecting an offer of a continent as compensation. Redding’s apparent panic and slow flight were deliberate bait. Oliver, a Mid-level Fate Sovereign seeking Redding’s Water Sovereign Spark, joined the chase and intercepted Redding after a month; Tristan was still at least a day behind 50.

Appearance

  • Sharp canines: Two pointed canines are visible when he smiles 5.
  • Normally lean cheeks: Consuming the crimson fruit rounds out his cheeks and dramatically swells his muscles 7.
  • Crimson-fruit reaction: His eyes turn scarlet while he consumes the fruit 6.
  • Innate ability manifestation: A pitch-black panther-shaped Divine Beast phantom appears behind him when he activates his Innate Divine Ability 7.

Personality

Tristan is deeply vindictive. His defeat by Laius develops into a fixation described as a “heart demon,” and he considers the costs of his crimson fruit worthwhile if it lets him kill Laius. After losing his Darkness clone, he redirects that hatred toward Redding and preserves it for hundreds of thousands of years 7 8 50.

His confidence rises sharply when he believes he holds a rank advantage, but he retreats or bargains when threatened. He mocks Laius for remaining a Midgod, then asks to be spared when the battle turns against him. As a Sovereign, he similarly avoids confronting Redding’s entire faction until he believes he has found an isolated target 5 6 42 49.

Tristan is also sensitive to disrespect and willing to plot against nominal allies. A Water Intermediate Sovereign’s blunt manner earns him second place on Tristan’s kill list, behind Redding. His invitation for the Water Sovereigns to settle in the new plane conceals a plan to harvest their Sovereign Sparks 43 45.

Abilities & Skills

Laws of Darkness

Tristan’s Darkness clone specializes in concealment and sudden attacks 5 6.

  • Enters shadows to evade attacks and approach opponents from unexpected directions.
  • Combines shadow concealment with close-range strikes from his artifact claws.
  • Prolonged concealment consumes considerable divine power; hiding for more than an hour leaves him facing exhaustion.
  • Before its destruction, the clone had not fused a single Profound Mystery, limiting its effectiveness against Laius despite its higher realm 5 6.

Innate Divine Ability — Insubstantiality

His unnamed Innate Divine Ability renders his Darkness clone insubstantial 7.

  • Withstands both material and soul attacks while fully insubstantial.
  • Saves him from Laius’s Tiger Roar in both their earlier encounter and their rematch.
  • Can activate despite the restrictions imposed by Bowen’s Seal.
  • Must be activated in time: Redding’s Dragon Roar disrupts time and prevents him from escaping the final soul attack 7 8.

Divine Clones and Regeneration

Tristan possesses separate Darkness and Water Divine Clones, allowing him to survive the destruction of his strongest clone 8.

  • Regenerates his severed arm using divine power 6.
  • Requires an intact Divine Spark, a surviving soul, and sufficient divine power to restore bodily injuries 6.
  • His Water clone remains alive after Redding erases the Darkness clone’s soul 8.

Water Sovereign Powers

After refining a High-level Water Sovereign Spark, Tristan wields Water Sovereign Power and Might of the Will 42 43.

  • Gathers immense quantities of Sovereign’s Might and helps construct the Water Divine Plane 43 44.
  • Holds a decisive rank advantage over ordinary Mid-level and Lower Sovereigns, despite being weak among his own rank 43.
  • Initially lacks a body as tough as a Sovereign Artifact and has relatively limited Law fusion 42.
  • Remains unimpressive in pursuit: Oliver reaches Redding at least a day ahead of him despite being a lower-ranked Sovereign 50.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Divine artifact claws — Wrist-mounted weapons used for ambushes and close combat. Under the crimson fruit’s enhancement, they severely damage Laius and ruin Bowen’s defensive armor 5 7.
  • Spatial ring — Stores his crimson fruit 6.
  • Crimson fruit — A rare emergency treasure that temporarily boosts strength and speed while healing wounds. Its effects are brief and followed by prolonged weakness 6 7.
  • Azure fruits — Accelerate comprehension and fusion of the Profound Mysteries. Tristan discovers their tree in the outer sea; it bears both red and blue fruits in small quantities 8.
  • Strange stone — Swallowed at the bottom of a mysterious lake; Tristan associates it with his breakthrough to Highgod 5.
  • High-level Water Sovereign Spark — Obtained in the Celestial Realm and refined to become a Water Sovereign 42 44.

Relationships

  • Laius — Original enemy. Their first battle drives Tristan from the Skyrite Mountains; the humiliation becomes an obsession and motivates his return 5 7.
  • Bowen — Enemy who supports Laius with gravity manipulation, defensive protection, and Seal during their rematch 6 7.
  • Redding — Principal target of revenge after destroying Tristan’s Darkness clone. Tristan later pursues him, unaware that Redding is deliberately drawing him into a trap 8 49 50.
  • Unnamed Lower Water Sovereign — Tristan’s sole Sovereign subordinate by the time of the renewed hunt. Monitors Redding on his orders and reports the opening created by the Four Divine Beasts’ divided forces 49.
  • Norman and Bryan — Powerful neighboring Sovereigns in the Celestial Realm. Their competing domains confine Tristan to a small buffer territory 46.
  • Unnamed Water Intermediate Sovereign — Earns Tristan’s murderous resentment through blunt speech, then relinquishes his continent rather than settle under Tristan’s influence 43 45.
