Biodata
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Midgod |
| Original Term | 中位神 |
| Type | Cultivation rank 3 |
| Rank Position | Above Lowgod and below Highgod 3 |
| Cultivation Systems | The Seven Elemental Laws and the Four Edicts 9 20 |
| First Appearance | Explained in Redding’s cultivation lesson 3 |
Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lowgod | 3 | Fully comprehending one Profound Mystery of an elemental Law permits initial godhood. |
| Midgod | 3 9 | For the Laws of Earth, fully comprehending two Profound Mysteries grants this rank. Edict cultivators can also become Midgods, as demonstrated by Laius’s Destruction Divine Clone. |
| Highgod | 4 24 | Requires complete comprehension of an element’s Profound Mysteries: six for Earth and nine for Wind. Leijia’s promotion transforms his Divine Spark under the Laws of the Universe. |
Cultivation
Comprehension and Fusion
- Comprehension determines rank; fusion increases combat strength. A Midgod can fuse elemental Profound Mysteries before fully comprehending every mystery needed for Highgod status 20.
- Midgods have differing levels of comprehension. The Heavenly Wind Tribe contains numerous Midgods who have comprehended five Profound Mysteries but have not completed the final step to Highgod 24.
- Fusion can overcome the rank gap. Redding and Nemo remain Midgods while wielding strength sufficient to overwhelm Highgods, leading Luolie to mistake them for higher-ranked opponents 15 16.
- Equivalent fusion differs by element. Fully fusing two Earth mysteries is described as equivalent in power to fully fusing three Wind mysteries 4.
- Fusion becomes progressively harder. Redding intends to find a compatibility point for his sixth Water mystery before advancing, but completes its comprehension—and therefore becomes a Highgod—before achieving that goal 31.
The Four Edicts
- Unlike the separate mysteries of elemental Laws, an Edict’s Profound Mysteries form a single whole 9 20.
- Edict cultivators cannot use the same mystery-fusion method to gain extraordinary combat power while remaining Midgods. Laius explicitly notes this limitation after his Destruction clone advances 9.
Godhood Choices and Divine Sparks
- External Godhood preserves the Saint Domain True Body and creates a separate Divine Clone, allowing cultivation of additional Laws and clones. Internal Godhood restricts subsequent cultivation to the original element 10.
- Advancing an existing clone to Midgod or Highgod does not repeat the painful soul-splitting experienced when first choosing External Godhood 3.
- Refining a Midgod Spark provides an alternative route to the rank. Lieshan’s trusted Fire Element subordinate advances this way but ranks among the weakest Midgods 26.
- Divine Spark refinement is described as cutting off the recipient’s path to further growth. Nevertheless, High Godheads remain highly desirable to Midgods unable to achieve Highgod status themselves 28.
Abilities & Skills
Divine Power and God’s Domain
Midgods possess the general capabilities of God Level experts 2 6.
- Divine power is substantially more potent than the elemental power used before godhood 2.
- God’s Domain overwhelmingly restrains Saint Domain opponents, though it is nearly useless against opponents of the same level 2.
- Divine-body regeneration can restore lost limbs if sufficient divine power remains, provided the Divine Spark survives and the soul has not dispersed 6.
Divine Sense and Soul Recognition
- God Level experts use divine sense for detection and can communicate through Soul Transmission 18 23.
- They identify one another by soul signature, rather than appearance; divine power can freely reshape facial features 12.
- The scar-faced stallholder’s Heaven and Earth Wonder changes his soul signature while leaving his Midgod presence intact, distinguishing identity concealment from rank concealment 12.
Combat Limits
- Ordinary Midgods face an enormous disadvantage against Highgods. Even a Midgod who has comprehended five mysteries is described as separated from Highgod strength by an almost impassable gap 24.
- The rank alone does not predict battle results: fusion, bloodline abilities, equipment, and individual techniques can produce exceptional Midgods 5 15 20.
- Redding kills four attacking Midgods with sword strikes and soul attacks in fewer than five breaths, demonstrating the disparity possible within the same rank 13.
Documented Practitioners
| Practitioner | Midgod Advancement or Status | Notable Details |
|---|---|---|
| Redding | Water Divine Clone advances during the thousand-year cultivation period 4. | Kills Tristan’s Darkness Highgod clone and later defeats Frost despite displaying a Midgod presence 8 10. |
| Laius | Wind clone reaches Midgod during the same period 4. | Threatens the newly promoted Highgod Tristan and severs his arm during their battle 5 6. |
| Bowen | Earth clone reaches Midgod during the same period 4. | Combines Earth techniques with the Black Tortoise’s defensive Innate Divine Ability 4 6. |
| Nemo | Fire clone reaches Midgod during the same period 4. | Uses fused mysteries to suppress three Highgod elders simultaneously 15. |
| Laius’s Destruction Clone | Advances while observing Pash’s Destruction attacks 9. | Its breakthrough prompts discussion of the difference between Edicts and elemental Laws 9 10. |
| Leijia | Redding’s alternate identity operates with Lightning and Life clones; both are Midgods before the Lightning clone’s promotion 18 24. | Wins Black Kun Island’s hundred-battle championship against Highgods, then advances his Lightning clone to Highgod in the Heavenly Wind Tribe 20 24. |
| Scar-faced Stallholder | His strongest clone is a Midgod 14. | Its destruction leaves him with only a Lowgod clone 14. |
| Milo | Identified as a Midgod of the Heavenly Wind Tribe 23. | Recruits newcomers for merit and participates in attacks on enemy patrol squads 23 24. |
Society and Resources
Position in Divine Society
- Midgods serve as guards, marketplace enforcers, merchants, and patrol combatants 11 24.
- More than a dozen Earth Midgods construct Leijia’s new courtyard in under an hour, showing the practical use of elemental abilities outside combat 25.
- Black Reef Island’s trading gathering contains 361 God Level experts: nearly 300 Lowgods, a little over 60 Midgods, and no Highgods 18 19.
- In the Heavenly Wind Tribe, tens of thousands of Midgods and Lowgods answer to a small number of Highgods, who form the tribe’s ruling military strength 24.
Sparks and Artifacts
Divine Sparks and artifacts function as hard currency before Sovereign-created Inkstones exist 11.
| Resource or Transaction | Documented Value |
|---|---|
| Detailed nautical chart | Purchased by Redding for one Midgod Spark 11. |
| Midgod Artifact saber | Advertised for five Lowgod Sparks 11. |
| Midgod Artifact armor | Advertised for two Midgod Sparks, with a seller’s claim that it could withstand a Highgod’s blow 11. |
| Highgod Artifact forging | A market spectator reports a previous commission costing fifteen Midgod Sparks 12. |
- Possessing a Midgod Spark impresses the chart seller because he takes it as evidence that Redding can kill another Midgod; most Midgod customers instead pay with Lowgod Sparks 11.
- Highgod Artifacts are coveted and difficult for ordinary Midgods to obtain. The Heavenly Wind Tribe offers them as rewards for sufficient military merit 19 23.
