|---|---|---|
| Lowgod | 3 | Fully comprehending one Profound Mystery of an Elemental Law is sufficient to become a god. |
| Midgod | 3 4 | Redding explains that fully comprehending two Earth Profound Mysteries grants this rank. Cultivators can begin fusing mysteries before becoming Highgods. |
| Highgod | 4 20 24 | Requires complete comprehension of an element’s mysteries: six for Earth and nine for Wind. The Laws of the Universe descend during a breakthrough and transform the Divine Spark. |
| Sovereign | 33 35 | Refining a compatible Sovereign Spark grants Sovereign power and the Might of the Will, which can effortlessly destroy ordinary Highgods. |
Attaining Highgod Rank
Comprehending Laws
- Complete comprehension is required: Earth cultivators must master all six mysteries, while Wind cultivators must master all nine. Merely comprehending several mysteries leaves a cultivator at Midgod 3 4.
- Comprehension and fusion are separate: Redding fully comprehended Water’s sixth mystery—and consequently reached Highgod—before finding a point of compatibility for fusing it with his other five 31.
- The breakthrough transforms the Divine Spark: When Leijia advanced, the Laws of the Universe enveloped his residence and transformed his spark into a High Godhead. The process took roughly a dozen breaths 24.
- Divine Clones advance independently: Redding’s Lightning, Water, and Fate clones reached Highgod at different times 24 31.
The Four Edicts
The Four Edicts do not share the Seven Elemental Laws’ system of separately fusible mysteries 9 20.
- An Edict’s mysteries form a single whole; a Midgod cannot fuse individual mysteries to obtain the same early power increase available to Elemental Law cultivators 9 20.
- Pash is a Destruction Highgod when introduced, and observing his attacks helps Laius advance his own Destruction clone to Midgod 9.
Refining a High Godhead
A High Godhead offers an alternative for cultivators unable to reach Highgod through their own comprehension 26 28.
- Chief Lieshan promises a High Godhead to a subordinate who had previously advanced by refining a Divine Spark 26.
- Leijia orders the captured High Godheads distributed to willing refiners, recognizing that many Midgods would eagerly accept them 28.
- Refining a Divine Spark is described as cutting off the refiner’s path to further growth 28.
Strength and Limitations
Fusion Benchmarks
Highgod rank does not indicate a fixed level of combat strength. Fusing Profound Mysteries creates substantial differences between cultivators of the same rank 20 25.
| Cultivation | Stated Benchmark |
|---|---|
| Complete comprehension of six elemental mysteries, without fusion | Generally comparable to a Four-Star Fiend 9 |
| Highgod with two fused mysteries | Generally comparable to a Five-Star Fiend 9 25 |
| Wind Highgod with two fused mysteries | Usually somewhat below Five-Star Fiend strength, except for certain higher-level mystery combinations 25 |
| Two fused Earth mysteries compared with Wind fusion | Three fused Wind mysteries are needed to equal the power of two fully fused Earth mysteries 4 |
- Higher rank does not guarantee victory: Tristan’s Highgod breakthrough fails to give him an easy victory over the Midgod Laius 5.
- Midgods can surpass ordinary Highgods: Nemo uses fused Fire mysteries to suppress three Highgod elders and subsequently hold off five opponents 15.
- A recent breakthrough need not mean weakness: Only a year after advancing, Leijia destroys seven Highgod bodies with one sword attack. His Lightning cultivation is described as having four fused mysteries 27.
- Divine bodies and innate abilities also matter: Redding’s Saint Domain True Body, supported by borrowed divine power, Highgod Artifact-level durability, and Dragon Roar, can fight a Highgod with four fused mysteries 31.
The Gap to Sovereigns
- Pash’s newly acquired Might of the Will wipes the souls of nearby God Level experts from their Divine Sparks without leaving physical wounds 33.
- He later explains that refining his Sovereign Spark allowed him to kill over a thousand Highgods with a thought 34.
- Sovereign power also strengthens other Divine Clones: Laius’s Will-reinforced Highgod clone withstands Leiyuan’s Highgod Artifact barehanded 35 36.
- Possessing a Sovereign Spark is insufficient without attribute compatibility. The Highgod who sells the Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind sparks cannot refine any of them 35.
Social Position
Highgods serve as the principal military and political authorities of many early settlements 18 23 24.
| Location / Organization | Highgod Presence and Significance |
|---|---|
| Ordinary Infernal Realm islands | Some do not have even one or two resident Highgods; a concentration like Crimson Island’s constitutes a major power 18. |
| Twelve tribes near the Life Divine Realm teleportation array | Even the weakest tribe has one Highgod, while stronger tribes have several 23. |
| Heavenly Wind Tribe | Initially has three Highgods commanding tens of thousands of Lowgods and Midgods; Leijia becomes its fourth 23 24. |
| Blazing Mountain Tribe | Expands aggressively after increasing its Highgod count from two to four 24. |
| Skyrite Mountains after the siblings’ return | Contains slightly over a hundred Highgods. Most have no fused mysteries, about a dozen have fused two, and none have fused more than three 39. |
| Crimson Island by the siblings’ return | Has grown to several hundred Highgods 39. |
- Heavenly Wind’s Highgods receive abundant offerings from the tribe’s lower-ranked members 24.
- After advancing, Leijia is appointed deputy chief, with authority to mobilize the tribe’s God Level members and resources 25.
Associated Items
- High Godhead / Highgod Divine Spark — Remains available as loot after a Highgod’s death; Redding takes Tristan’s Darkness High Godhead, while a Blazing Mountain combatant claims a slain deputy chief’s spark 8 26.
- Highgod Artifacts — Include offensive weapons and material-defense equipment. They are not particularly precious to Highgods themselves, but obtaining even one can require considerable luck for a Lowgod or Midgod 15 19.
- Material-defense artifacts — Can preserve a Highgod’s body against repeated attacks, but are destructible. A Heavenly Wind deputy chief dies after three attackers break his defensive armor 26.
Documented Breakthroughs
| Cultivator | Advancement |
|---|---|
| Tristan | Returns as a Highgod after swallowing a strange stone found at the bottom of a mysterious lake 5. |
| Leijia — Lightning clone | Advances during seclusion in the Heavenly Wind Tribe, having also fused most of a fourth Lightning mystery 24. |
| Redding — Water clone | Reaches Highgod during the fifty-thousand-year cultivation period after fully comprehending Water’s sixth mystery 31. |
| Laius, Nemo, and Bowen | Their Divine Clones reach Highgod during the same extended cultivation period 31. |
| Redding — Fate clone | Its Divine Spark transforms under the Laws of the Universe at the end of that period 31. |
