Background

Xi Yan transmigrated into the world of One Piece for a second time. Upon recognizing Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Chopper aboard the Sea Train, he realized where he was, though his knowledge of the world's events only extended as far as the Water Seven period 1.

After running across the sea to reach the train, Xi Yan introduced himself as a ninja. He clarified that he was not from Wano despite the world's association of ninjas with that country 1. Luffy immediately invited him to join the Straw Hat Pirates, and Xi Yan accepted without hesitation 1 2.

His Uchiha–Senju heritage was initially unknown even to Xi Yan before his Sharingan awakened. He later explained that the Sharingan's evolution depends on intense mental stimulation and that its reputation in his original world was associated with misfortune 27.

Xi Yan's unusual abilities attract repeated attempts to recruit or capture him. The World Government offers him a Shichibukai position through Kuma, which he refuses rather than leave the Straw Hats. His concern can coexist with ruthless efficiency: enemies threatening his allies are often incapacitated, terrified through genjutsu, or killed without hesitation 5 137 143.

Xi Yan is highly confident in his own strength, at times to the point of arrogance. He challenged three Marine Admirals at once during the Marineford conflict and declared himself invincible despite warnings that his immortality is limited by stamina 230.

He also enjoys testing himself against strong opponents. His exchanges with Ryuma and Thriller Bark's powerful zombies reveal excitement at discovering their capabilities, rather than a purely pragmatic approach to fighting 94 95 96. Even after Dressrosa's devastation, the prospect of sinking an island interests him, illustrating how his confidence can verge on recklessness 737.

Despite his protective role, Xi Yan respects his companions' independence in battle.
