Background

Akaseki was born to Xia and Hou Xuan, fringe members of the Uchiha Clan who died during the clan's civil conflict. Orphaned before he could remember them, he grew up with less standing than prominent Uchiha families, though still more security than an ordinary orphan. 1 225

At the Ninja Academy, Akaseki cultivated ties with Mikoto because her father was a clan elder and used his clan status to discourage boys from harassing Kushina Uzumaki. His early conduct was strongly shaped by Uchiha status-consciousness and pride. 1 4

Following graduation, he joined Jiraiya's genin team alongside Minato Namikaze and Ranwu. His Sharingan awakened at the graduation ceremony after he returned from an emotionally traumatic Immersion experience, drawing the attention of Clan Head Jiancheng and Elder Lanyu, who began personally investigating his unusual experiences and ocular potential. 3 4 6 8

Hiruzen deliberately sought to place the newly awakened Uchiha under Jiraiya's supervision before the clan could take exclusive control of his development. Akaseki's furious reaction to his Immersion was publicly interpreted as indignation over Madara's betrayal rather than evidence of his concealed ability. 3

Although he initially possessed weak chakra reserves and was not regarded as an exceptional Academy student, the Sharingan's awakening rapidly changed his standing. Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru initially considered him an ordinary Uchiha with potential rather than a future powerhouse, while the Uchiha Clan treated him as an important developing asset and began arranging his inherited-ninjutsu training. 9 16 29

Setsuna's imprisonment also exposed a previously unknown aspect of Akaseki's family history: both of his parents had supported Setsuna during the civil conflict. Jiancheng stated that they died amid the fighting, rather than establishing that Setsuna personally killed them. Akaseki had not known their factional allegiance because the clan largely avoided discussing the conflict after it ended. 225

Akaseki later became Ryūchi Cave's fourth elder after completing its Sage Mode trial. This recognition did not place the cave under his authority, despite his initial interpretation that the elders had submitted to him. 373

By seventeen, his reputation in Konoha rivaled that of the Sannin and was approaching the White Fang's, although his youth limited his comparable standing. The Third Mizukage's death from wounds sustained against him further increased his influence while making him a target of Kirigakure's succession-related hostility. 403 410

Personality

Akaseki is intensely proud of being an Uchiha. Early on, he openly treated the clan crest as proof of superiority over commoners and regarded other clans through the lens of Uchiha prestige. He was especially suspicious of Ranwu after learning she was Tobirama Senju's granddaughter, despite professing admiration for the Second. 4 5

He is competitive, boastful, and eager to prove that he is the strongest member of his team. His confidence rose sharply after awakening the Sharingan, and he often frames clan accomplishments as personal validation. 10 25 124

Despite this arrogance, Akaseki is capable of practical restraint and empathy. He paid for his team's graduation celebration, aided the dying Tanuki despite having little to offer, offered to help Hizashi Hyuga with the Caged Bird mark, and visited Zhenpan's family after Zhenpan's death. 6 45 129 219

He is a resourceful combatant who values plans, deception, and favorable conditions over direct confrontation. He repeatedly uses clones, disguises, traps, and misdirection, though impatience and overconfidence can still lead him into danger. 108 141 216

Akaseki has become more reflective as the consequences of war, Zhenpan's death, the Rashomon Trial, and prolonged Immersion have forced him to confront guilt, attachment, and the distinction between borrowed emotions and his genuine self. He can nevertheless become emotionally unstable when Immersion memories remain insufficiently processed, prompting him to overcorrect his behavior in dangerous situations. 198 200 257 261

His growing political awareness does not diminish his Uchiha loyalty. He offers strategic proposals concerning Konoha's postwar relationship with Sunagakure, warns against monopolizing benefits through the Military Police Force, and recognizes when clan interests must be framed as village interests to remain politically viable. 289 290 291

His clan bias also shapes his interpretation of ancient history. After hearing Black Zetsu's account, he repeatedly treats uncertain information about Indra and Ashura as evidence of Ashura's treachery and Hagoromo's favoritism, even when Hell Yama King offers more cautious explanations. These suspicions are Akaseki's conclusions, not established historical facts. 303

He is persistent and methodical in cultivating power, adapting Might Duy's training principles to a mental rather than purely physical regimen. However, his reliance on Susanoo eventually leads him to neglect bodily conditioning, a shortcoming he acknowledges after Jiraiya explains his stalled chakra growth. 342 381

His social confidence often exceeds his social awareness. He fails to understand others' objections to Orochimaru's Uchiha marriage, intimidates Jiraiya's young students while imagining himself a helpful senior, and discovers that the cooking expertise he experienced during Immersion does not translate into real culinary skill. 310 355 356

As a battlefield leader, he can combine boldness with restraint. After drawing massed Rain attacks onto his Susanoo and helping rout the enemy, he stops further pursuit and orders his troops to treat the wounded. During the Land of Water mission, he explicitly prioritizes his companions' safety over completing the stated tailed-beast capture. 314 389

Akaseki regards power as a means to accomplish important goals rather than something worth pursuing for its own sake. He does not enjoy training simply as an activity and is willing to interrupt it when practical responsibilities take priority. 375

After repairing the seal, Akaseki meets a lingering chakra remnant of the Sage of Six Paths. He receives an enhancement to his Uchiha bloodline and the Ame-no-Hoko mark on his imitation gunbai, accelerating the growth of his dojutsu power. 241 244

The Sage later further purifies Akaseki's bloodline along Indra's hereditary line and grants him qualification for Ryūchi Cave's Sage Mode trial, including the potential to recommend companions. Return to Konoha and Susanoo Training

Akaseki returns to Konoha as a celebrated wartime hero. Hiruzen promotes him to jōnin and publicly elevates his achievements to improve morale, while Danzō attempts unsuccessfully to place him under Root investigation. 268

Following his return, Akaseki studies the limitations of his mixed Sharingan Susanoo under Chizuru's guidance. He builds a wooden training frame and spars with Might Duy to develop practical control over Susanoo's skeletal form and combat applications. 271 272

Duy's revealed strength turns the arrangement into genuine Susanoo sparring rather than a simulation. Akaseki later studies the Eight Gates scroll, arranges medicine for Duy, and discourages him from repeatedly opening the Sixth Gate merely to serve as a training opponent. 272 274 277

Sky Ninja Village Fortress Mission

At Hiruzen's request, Akaseki joins the Uchiha Clan's mission against the Sky Ninja Village alongside Nonō and Anbu operative Guan Ze. Inside the Floating Fortress, he employs Tanuki Treasure's Sky Serpent and Heavenly Maiden forms, discovers a Sunagakure ambush, and battles Rasa, Karura, and Yashamaru using advanced Fire Release and triple combination ninjutsu. 277 281 283

After the Sky Ninja Village mission, Akaseki and Nonō are assigned to the Special Countermeasure Force under Jiancheng's command and sent to Jiraiya's Land of Rain reserve force. Ostensibly assigned to supervise grain collection and protect Konoha's reputation, Akaseki is also tasked with monitoring Nonō and preventing Root from manufacturing anti-Uchiha evidence. 292

His investigations include searching for a missing red-haired child after discovering evidence that an Uzumaki household contained three people rather than only the two dead adults. He explains his concern for the Uzumaki as fulfillment of his promise when adopting Tanuki Treasure and gratitude for Kushina's sealing instruction. 295 296

He also reports the apparent survival of Madara and the existence of a powerful Wood Release accomplice to Tsunade, while his conversations with Hell Yama King reveal that Black Zetsu's historical claims have intensified his distrust of Ashura. 303 304

Ryūchi Cave Enhancement Plans

Seeking a body capable of surviving Ryūchi Cave's Sage Mode trial, Akaseki strategically approaches Orochimaru with the possibility of trial access and Uchiha Clan affiliation. Orochimaru offers three dangerous physical-enhancement methods—cell stimulation, natural-energy adaptation involving a special bloodline or cells, and Ninja Beast modification—but Akaseki remains wary of their risks. 306 307

The discussion is interrupted by an attack on a wounded-soldier transport squad. Akaseki joins Orochimaru's rescue mission and immediately pursues the enemy after learning that Ruyi, Zhenpan's widow and Obito's mother, is holding them off alone. 307

Orochimaru subsequently commits to marrying into the Uchiha Clan. Akaseki inadvertently reveals the arrangement to Ranwu, while Jiancheng's presentation of the alliance alarms Hiruzen and Danzō. Akaseki fails to understand why the marriage is controversial, despite having helped create the incentive for it. 310

Rain Battlefield and Kannabi Bridge Assault

Against a large Rain force, Akaseki deliberately enters an encirclement and relies on his improved Susanoo to withstand massed attacks. He disperses most of the salamander poison and counters underground attacks with Hell's Gate, inspiring a Konoha counterattack. After the rout, he halts pursuit and orders care for the wounded. 314

He later serves in Torifu's Uchiha–Akimichi Joint Squad targeting Kannabi Bridge. His demonstration of Mud-Stealth persuades the senior commanders to accept a plan in which Mirror Clones ambush the accompanying Stone jōnin while his real body engages Roshi. 318 322

During the assault, his clones use earth pillars and Susanoo attacks against three jōnin. Akaseki breaks out of Roshi's attempted underground burial, then fights alongside Yangyong and Gongzhi Jiu while their combined Sharingan genjutsu interferes with the Four-Tails' release. 323

He subsequently conceals Towa's use in his left palm while fighting Roshi, presenting his unusual anticipation and substitutions as instinctive combat skill. His results earn acknowledgment as a major contribution to securing the stronghold, which is further reinforced by Dan Katō and Kunugi Mokume. 325 329

Box of Bliss and Yin Style Eight Gates

During the suppression of Kusagakure's rebellion, Akaseki learns that an Uzumaki survivor has been taken inside the village's dangerous facility. He and Ranwu confront Wu, whose anticipation repeatedly defeats their attacks even when Akaseki uses Forked Deity to inspect possible futures. 332 335

Hell Yama King's explanation reveals that Wu exploits fear. When Ranwu is knocked unconscious, Akaseki opens the Gate of Healing, clears the thoughts enabling Wu's advantage, and attacks with an enlarged Thunderflame Greatsword. The Box of Bliss and its entity are subsequently sealed again. 335 336 339

Akaseki receives the Sharingan Ultimate Art and studies its Yin Style Eight Gates framework. He also insists on relocating the Box of Bliss securely and negotiates a mission-subcontracting arrangement in which Konoha retains financial oversight without destroying Kusagakure as a buffer against Iwagakure. The Demon God's existence remains secret while Akaseki receives public credit for securing the village. 339

Over the following six months, he consolidates his battlefield experience and returns Chizuru's restored eyes. Intense Deep Immersion then opens his third Yin Style gate, providing major temporary enhancements to emotion-linked chakra transformations. 341 342

The rescued Uzumaki survivor, Manako, later chooses to accompany him to Konoha. She comes to regard him as the person she trusts most and lives with Kushina. 408

Four-Tails Interception and Further Research

In a later battle, Akaseki and Gongzhi Jiu hold off Roshi in his Four-Tails form. Akaseki reveals Wings of the Void and uses aerial greatsword attacks to threaten the wounded Stone Ninja Roshi is carrying, preventing him from reinforcing Kannabi Bridge Outpost. The prolonged confrontation nearly exhausts their dojutsu power before the Stone forces retreat. 348

Akaseki subsequently conducts further underground operations against the guarded Stone camp, identifying Kitsuchi as his preferred assassination target for personal and village reasons. The enemy's precautions force him to rely on careful infiltration and clone diversions. 350

During renewed assaults on February 15 and 16, he again uses mobility, threats to Kitsuchi, and sustained harassment to prevent Roshi from concentrating on destroying the outpost's seal. Konoha's medical support preserves many wounded, while the Stone force's inability to rest or recover contributes to its withdrawal. Torifu arrives with reinforcements, and Akaseki's unit receives formal second-level status in the newly established Grass Support Force. 351

After roughly a year in the Land of Grass, Akaseki is transferred to the devastated Land of Rain. His attempt to awaken Wood Release instead produces Swamp Release. He refuses Orochimaru's experimental supplements, requests more preparation time, and continues considering Sacred Spire synthesis as a means of pursuing the intended bloodline. 351 355

Jiraiya's Land of Rain Students

Akaseki visits Jiraiya, Nonō, Konan, Nagato, and Yahiko in the Land of Rain. His attempt to impress the children with cooking fails because he mistakes an Immersion experience of culinary expertise for genuine skill. 355

He then forces them through meals and a fable criticizing paternal favoritism, increasing their distrust. When Konan later approaches Nonō with concern that Nagato may be in danger, Nonō avoids hearing a secret she might have to report to Danzō and asks Akaseki to impersonate her instead. He agrees and begins listening in her place. 356

Ryūchi Cave Trial and Sage Mode

Akaseki and Orochimaru follow the Sage's guiding chakra mark toward Ryūchi Cave. Near its suspected location, they encounter a secluded village whose inhabitants possess small amounts of unusual body-enhancing chakra. Akaseki establishes their strength with Susanoo, after which the villagers provide directions and allow Orochimaru to study their physiology. 366

The White Snake Sage explains that the cave's Sage Mode can gradually destroy a practitioner's mind. Akaseki proceeds despite the risk, receives nature energy through the Dragon-Subduing Staff's bite, and uses his Sharingan and the first two gates to resist the influence. His transformation develops lion-like rather than wholly serpentine characteristics. 368 369 370

He completes the trial and becomes the fourth elder. After recovering from collapse, he learns independent Sage Mode entry from Tagorihime and succeeds immediately, then explores the mode's effects on chakra, recovery, perception, and regeneration. 373 374

Tagorihime's explanation of Inorganic Reincarnation gives him a technique that complements Swamp Release. Orochimaru meanwhile survives his own unstable transformation through the intervention of the Heavenly Cloud Sword's hidden power. 374

New orders cut their remaining training to half a day and direct them toward the southeastern Land of Wind war zone. Akaseki explains that power serves practical goals, copies Inorganic Reincarnation through his Sharingan, and persuades the White Snake Sage to provide a white scale for summoning the cave's snakes against the salamanders. 375

Hanzō's Retreat and Chakra Plateau

After Akaseki's enhanced techniques and allied snakes force the Rain side back, Hanzō withdraws and summons away his damaged Great Salamander King. Garaga, having fought to settle an old grudge, eats his share of the defeated salamanders and departs independently. 381

Akaseki explains to Jiraiya that his Swamp Monster combines Swamp Release with Inorganic Reincarnation. Their discussion clarifies both the value of combining complementary abilities and the reason ordinary chakra training has stalled: his neglected physical conditioning limits further growth. He resolves to address the weakness rather than relying exclusively on Susanoo. 381

Back in Konoha, he distinguishes fitness training from combat sparring and uses the Correction Device to add pressure during ordinary exercise. Orochimaru also encourages him to consider whether his Kekkei Genkai seem insufficient because he has not developed them enough. 385

Land of Water Six-Tails Mission

After receiving a rotation back to Konoha, Akaseki later leads Ranwu and Shinnosuke to the Land of Water for a mission to recapture the Six-Tails. They arrive on March 30 of Konoha Year 41 and meet familiar Mist contacts Ao, Fuguki, and Hishi. 383 389

Kirigakure's internal tensions and the presence of Sand forces make him suspicious of the mission's true purpose. He warns his teammates to obey his orders even if they must abandon the capture and declines a tracking seal on his own body, having it placed on a summoned snake instead. During the search, he reveals Swamp Release and his Red Lion Sage Mode. 389 391

The mission ultimately brings him into conflict with the Third Mizukage. A later clarification states that his final subduing attack briefly raised Sage Mode from its usual 50% to 60%. The Mizukage subsequently dies from the wounds sustained in their fight. 397 403

Sand Pursuit and Hikari

During the subsequent fighting, Akaseki destroys multiple Chikamatsu puppets, employs his Swamp Monster and Susanoo, and reveals his palm Sharingan when his primary eyes require recovery. He delays Luo Yan, Chiyo, and Ebizo long enough for Ranwu and Shinnosuke to escape, then withdraws by air while restoring chakra and dojutsu power. 396

The three Sand leaders continue pursuing him across the sea, driven especially by Luo Yan's fear that Akaseki could become a second Madara or Hashirama. Akaseki eventually changes course toward the former Land of Whirlpools. 396

At the Whirlpool Sea, he has Tanuki Treasure open the Uzumaki seal imprisoning “Uchiha Nanashi,” intending to use the captive as a distraction. Finding a young girl rather than the feared figure he expected, he instinctively pulls her free and shields her with Susanoo when the Sand ninja attack. 397

After Luo Yan's Gold Dust collapses into the sea, Chiyo and Ebizo flee on puppet gliders. Akaseki follows Ebizo, kills him with the Thunderfire Greatsword, and seals his body for analysis. Luo Yan's body has already been burned away. 399

The woman Akaseki had known as “Uchiha Nanashi” proves far stronger than he expected and rejects that identity in favor of Hikari. Rather than allow her to leave unaccompanied, he follows her, offers a place beside him, and attempts to distinguish the modern Uchiha from the clan that used and sealed her centuries earlier. Hikari exposes his fabricated parallels to her suffering, leaving their relationship guarded and unresolved. 399

He then recounts the clan's intervening history and proposes that they return together to take control of it. Hikari declines to commit, preferring to inspect the modern world before deciding its future. She later knocks him unconscious and removes his transplanted Mangekyō, claiming they burden his chakra. Upon awakening, he discovers that he feels weaker and is suffering an unexplained continuing chakra drain. 400

Return with Hikari and the Hokage's Report

Akaseki brings Hikari to Chizuru after returning to Konoha and privately explains that she is the woman sealed by the Uzumaki more than three hundred years earlier. He fears that public knowledge of her power and past would create suspicion toward the Uchiha without securing her support. Chizuru believes him and offers Hikari the practical identity of an honorary granddaughter. 403

Chizuru informs him that the dying Third Mizukage falsely accused Konoha of betrayal and ordered Kirigakure to select whoever killed Akaseki or Yagura as its next leader. Hiruzen promotes a competing account protecting Konoha and Akaseki's reputation, while Kirigakure's factions remain too occupied with internal struggles to pursue him immediately. 403

During his report, Akaseki protects Hikari with a fabricated account of an Uchiha parent who visited the East Sea sixteen years earlier. Hiruzen accepts the explanation and permits her registration as a Konoha ninja despite her lack of Academy attendance. Danzō repeatedly tries to cast Akaseki's conduct as suspicious, but Hiruzen rejects his accusations. 404

Akaseki reports Luo Yan and Ebizo dead and Chiyo escaped, producing Ebizo's corpse as evidence while blending the actual pursuit with a cover story. He avoids directly advising Hiruzen whether to publicize the Mizukage's scheme, recognizing that doing so could help the Karatachi faction stabilize Kirigakure. 404 405

Reunited with Ranwu, Shinnosuke, and Minato, he invents a tragic modern backstory for Hikari and asks them not to mention the Uchiha around her. He expects Guan Ze's eagerness for gossip to spread this protective persona. After registration, Akaseki volunteers to teach her and brings her to dinner with trusted friends, deliberately emphasizing reconciliation and village warmth in hopes of tempering her destructive view of the shinobi world. 405 406

Rōran and the Future Counterpart

While on standby in Konoha, Akaseki discreetly asks Orochimaru about space-time sealing through Ryūchi Cave. His subsequent Rōran involvement brings him into contact with a future version of himself, addressed as Uchiha clan head, and with Kakashi and the younger members of a future Team 7. 410 424 427

The confrontation escalates when future Akaseki infuses his Susanoo with senjutsu chakra, producing darker armor and lion-and-snake motifs that overpower Hikari's initial construct. Present Akaseki first urges her to stop but then trusts her determination, carefully supplying senjutsu through Engraving so she can reinforce her own Susanoo. 426

As the battle devastates Rōran, present Akaseki repeatedly exhausts his reserves and uses Mirror Clones to maintain Hikari's supply. Future Akaseki remains stronger in the endurance contest. Kakashi identifies present Akaseki's ability to recover while not fighting and proposes a Team 7 distraction; Akaseki supports the plan by throwing him White Fang. 426

Kakashi's response reveals that the future Akaseki had been remembered as an extraordinary Konoha ninja and a somewhat taboo legend. Present Akaseki later returns to the battlefield with Mirror Clones and witnesses Konoha, a girl from the future group, awaken a two-tomoe Sharingan. He interprets her Uchiha blood as evidence relevant to his own future parenthood, but his conclusion does not independently establish her parentage. 427 428 430

After the confrontation, his squad helps reconstruct Rōran and establish ties with the city. By May 1 of Konoha Year 41, the former city of towers has become a landscape of stone caves. Sara understands that present Akaseki and the future “An Lushan” are connected yet distinct, and present Akaseki argues that her unique Ryūmyaku control need not require personally handling every governmental task. 430

He judges the mission's other aim—preventing a Sunagakure–Rōran connection—largely accomplished after An Lushan's disappearance, and meets the Sand delegation led by Pakura together with his teammates rather than alone. Hikari's continued cooperation in investigating the Ryūmyaku also strengthens Ranwu's trust in her. 430 431 433

Miroku, Prophecy, and the Dimensional Ruin

During a later mission, Akaseki and Ranwu sense a brief Ryūmyaku-like surge near the palace but refrain from investigating because of the Guardian Ninja. The Konoha group subsequently travels with Miroku, Curse Technique User Yomi, and Guardian Ninja Feng Qi. Miroku's unusual attention to Akaseki and remarks about marriage and a future daughter make him wonder whether she has received a prophetic vision. 446

Akaseki suspects that her foresight may consist of incomplete fragments connected to space-time power. He outwardly dismisses it when Yomi's supposedly helpful explanations appear designed to turn the group against her. Miroku later tells Ranwu that she saw a possible daughter named Konoha with a man connected to Konoha; neither this account nor Akaseki's speculation confirms the father's identity. 447
