Background & History

Vermouth was a test subject for the precursor to APTX4869. Out of hundreds of experimental subjects, she was the only survivor; although the drug extended her lifespan, she considers her survival luck rather than something for which to be grateful. 855

As a core Black Organization member, Vermouth was sent by Gin to investigate Chen after his conflict with the Organization. Her research uncovered Chen's arrival in the world and his killing of several robbers, but his earlier history was completely blank. Chen exposed her human-skin disguise without her noticing and correctly identified both her and Gin's assignment. 768

When Chen confronted her, Vermouth refused to lower her gun despite recognizing that she was outmatched. She admitted that she had never met the Organization's leader and did not know even the leader's real gender, as all contact was concealed. Chen eventually let her leave after offering her a place in the Invisible Empire, which she declined. 769

Later, Vermouth sought Hyuga Shin's help against an Organization traitor protected by elite agents. Shin killed the target with the God-Killing Spear, splitting the target's building apart; Vermouth, unable to explain what she had seen, silently followed him afterward. 794

Following this encounter, she began staying in Shin's home. Her initial hostility and threats to kill him gradually gave way to attachment, jealousy, and an insistence that she did not want to be abandoned. 793 795 802

Shin subsequently enhanced Vermouth's body and taught her chakra refinement. She trained diligently in the Kamui Dimension, adapted quickly to her strength, and began practicing with ninja tools and chakra rather than relying solely on conventional assassination methods. 803

Vermouth tested her new power by accepting a contract on gang leader Matsuda Jiro. She infiltrated his building, killed Jiro and more than a dozen armed men, and demonstrated both her enhanced physique and Fire Release ninjutsu. 810 811

Although she initially remained in the Black Organization, Vermouth stopped treating it as a serious threat once she gained sufficient power to destroy it. She is calculating and often cruel toward enemies. Vermouth shows little remorse for her past killings, toys with Judy during their confrontation, and treats the Black Organization's internal collapse with open contempt. 868 1032
