Background

Early Life and Martial Soul Academy

Yun Lingyue and her elder brother, Yun Qingyang, awakened with Innate Rank Nine Soul Power. While Qingyang's Canglan Spear was praised, Lingyue's blood-patterned blade caused panic among local people, who associated it with Fallen Soul Masters. Deacon Su Chengfeng suppressed the rumors and secretly protected the siblings before bringing them to Martial Soul Academy. 112

Initially fearful that Martial Soul Hall would regard her as a monster, Lingyue regained hope after Su Chengfeng relayed Zhang Qingxuan's belief that a Martial Soul's morality is determined by its wielder's heart rather than its innate attributes. 112 She remained close to Qingyang throughout their enrollment, relying on him for reassurance when the attention surrounding his new status as Zhang Qingxuan's disciple made her uneasy. 113 116

Attack on Yun Qingyang

Lingyue accompanied Qingyang and Lu Xueqi in Martial Soul City during the conflict with Tang Hao and the Clear Sky Sect. She tried to intervene when Qingyang fought Tang Hao, but Lu Xueqi stopped her, trusting Qingyang's ability to challenge opponents above his level. 128

Before the later ambush, Lingyue admitted that she had been too nervous to eat in front of the Pope. Qingyang took her to a snack stall while Lu Xueqi went ahead, unaware that black-clad attackers were following the siblings. The Fallen Soul Masters targeting Lu Xueqi also intended to attack them. 135

During a later Fallen Soul Master attack, Lingyue was rendered unconscious while Qingyang fought to protect her. Though Lingyue herself was suffering only from depleted blood and qi, Qingyang's Martial Soul origin and meridians were severely damaged. Lingyue blamed herself for his condition and became determined to gain the strength to protect him instead. 136 141 142

When Lingyue pleaded with Zhang Qingxuan to teach her, he initially rejected her as impatient and lacking in temperament. He then offered her a trial: she would accompany him on a long journey and prove that she could overcome her impatience and ignorance. 142

Journey of Retribution

Zhang Qingxuan took Lingyue with him, the Snow Empress, and the Ice Empress during his purge of the groups responsible for attacking Qingyang. Lingyue served as his sword-bearing attendant and vowed that her brother would never be harmed because of her again. 147

Zhang Qingxuan ordered her to execute a healing-type Soul Master who had aided Fallen Soul Masters, forcing her to make her first kill. He later sent her to eradicate a Fallen Soul Master stronghold, where a disguised enemy manipulated her into killing his family and burning their home before poisoning and capturing her. The Snow Empress rescued Lingyue before she could be taken away. 148 149

The disguised enemy had used neurotoxin in the air and poison on his blade, exploiting Lingyue's trust. His Disguise soul skill concealed his true appearance and temporarily sealed part of his own strength, rather than Lingyue's. He intended to take her captive because of her connection to the injured Qingyang and threatened to force her to bear descendants with her gifted bloodline. The Snow Empress intervened before he could violate her. 149

After these experiences, Lingyue became more decisive in battle but feared that the Blood Spirit Demon Blade's killing intent was eroding her identity. After returning from the purge, Lingyue displayed a markedly more assertive and mature temperament. When Zhang Qingxuan bestowed his surname upon Yun Qingyang, she forcibly pressed her hesitant brother into a bow of acceptance, recognizing the significance of his becoming Zhang Qingyang. 158
