Background

Early Life and Martial Soul Academy

Yun Lingyue and her elder brother, Yun Qingyang, awakened with Innate Rank Nine Soul Power. While Qingyang's Canglan Spear was praised, Lingyue's blood-patterned blade caused panic among local people, who associated it with Fallen Soul Masters. Deacon Su Chengfeng suppressed the rumors and secretly protected the siblings before bringing them to Martial Soul Academy. 112

Initially fearful that Martial Soul Hall would regard her as a monster, Lingyue regained hope after Su Chengfeng relayed Zhang Qingxuan's belief that a Martial Soul's morality is determined by its wielder's heart rather than its innate attributes. 112 She remained close to Qingyang throughout their enrollment, relying on him for reassurance when the attention surrounding his new status as Zhang Qingxuan's disciple made her uneasy. 113 116

Three years later, Qingyang sought and received Zhang Qingxuan's permission to teach Lingyue the breathing technique he had been given. 117

Attack on Yun Qingyang

Lingyue accompanied Qingyang and Lu Xueqi in Martial Soul City during the conflict with Tang Hao and the Clear Sky Sect. She tried to intervene when Qingyang fought Tang Hao, but Lu Xueqi stopped her, trusting Qingyang's ability to challenge opponents above his level. 128

During a later Fallen Soul Master attack, Lingyue was rendered unconscious while Qingyang fought to protect her. Though Lingyue herself was suffering only from depleted blood and qi, Qingyang's Martial Soul origin and meridians were severely damaged. Journey of Retribution

Zhang Qingxuan took Lingyue with him, the Snow Empress, and the Ice Empress during his purge of the groups responsible for attacking Qingyang. Lingyue served as his sword-bearing attendant and vowed that her brother would never be harmed because of her again. 147

Zhang Qingxuan ordered her to execute a healing-type Soul Master who had aided Fallen Soul Masters, forcing her to make her first kill. He later sent her to eradicate a Fallen Soul Master stronghold, where a disguised enemy manipulated her into killing his family and burning their home before poisoning and capturing her. The Snow Empress rescued Lingyue before she could be taken away. 148 149

After these experiences, Lingyue became more decisive in battle but feared that the Blood Spirit Demon Blade's killing intent was eroding her identity. She formally begged Zhang Qingxuan to accept her as a disciple; he did so and gave her methods to purify her mind and body. Lingyue represented Dragon Tiger Mountain at the Spirit Grand Gathering in Spirit City, where she was one of the three young finalists alongside Bibi Dong and Tang Hao. 245
