Background / History

Toby Parker was reborn as the previously nonexistent son of Ben and May Parker after dying in his former life. He retained memories of being an orphaned truck driver with an explosive temper, and he believes a mysterious spider involved in his death was responsible for his abilities in his new life. 1 4

Unlike most Spider-Men, Toby was never bitten by a radioactive spider in this life. His enhanced strength, agility, intelligence, wall-crawling, organic webbing, and Spider-Sense developed naturally as he grew up. He later identifies himself as having begun in the “adult spider” stage of Spider-Man evolution. 4 512

When Peter Parker's parents died in a plane crash, Toby could have intervened using his foreknowledge. However, his webbing and Spider-Sense had not yet awakened, and he feared attracting Osborn Enterprises' attention; he chose not to act. Peter subsequently moved in with Ben, May, and Toby. 4

After mastering his abilities, Toby began robbing Hell's Kitchen criminals while masked, accumulating more than one million dollars before Kingpin set a trap for him. Toby outmaneuvered Fisk and became his mercenary assassin, gaining the underground identity “Poison Spider.” 4

Toby secretly engineered Peter's exposure to the Super Spider and trained him after Peter gained powers. During their first serious sparring session, Toby discovered that fully defeating another Spider-Man could copy that person's abilities into his own body. 14 17
