Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
LV3 — Superpower Field Awakening 32 Achieved a complete awakening on 2023.11.12. Her awakened field formed a private long-distance communication link with Hong Mo. She possesses weak electromagnetism and ice abilities. 32
LV4 — Soul Space Awakening 34 Revealed Soul Space, allowing her to store and recall thousands of Little Bats. 34

LV classifications measure the completeness of an esper's awakening rather than direct combat strength. 32 38

Background

Lingyin was cultivated and raised as an experimental subject in the Northern Institute Research Center. Hong Mo recognizes her as his daughter with Mu Siyu. She was born alongside two younger sisters, both of whom later died during experiments, leaving her isolated within the institute. Her education focused heavily on cooperating with research, although the researchers gave her comparatively broad access to archives and information. 32 34

After Hong Mo's regeneration experiments transformed him into a lump of flesh, he gained the ability to send thoughts to Lingyin through electromagnetic fluctuations. Their first exchange gave her reassurance after her last remaining sister died. Hong Mo named her Lingyin after learning that she liked the sound of wind chimes and had never experienced wind or freedom. 32

Lingyin completely awakened as an LV3 esper in 2023, but her body grew frail because its genes could not withstand the strength of her powers. Despite this, she and Hong Mo secretly practiced their abilities and remained in contact from afar. 32

When a five-person esper team invaded the institute, Lingyin reunited with Hong Mo and supplied the group with her knowledge of Particle Bombs. After acquiring the Hemolysis Agent, she revealed her LV4 Soul Space and evacuated her thousands of Little Bats before escaping the institute with her father. 33 34

Appearance

Lingyin is a young girl with a pale face and usually impassive, icy eyes; her expression softens noticeably around Hong Mo. She is frequently associated with swarms of dark-red Little Bats. 41

  • Often wears Gothic Lolita-style clothing, which became her preferred everyday attire. 36 40 50
  • Resembles the anime character Feles Bell closely enough to be mistaken for a real-life version of her. 37
  • Can surround herself with bats while changing outfits, concealing herself from view. 50

Personality

Lingyin was shaped by an isolated childhood in which crying or seeking affection brought her nothing. She is unusually composed and knowledgeable for her age, but retains a child's curiosity about ordinary things she had never seen, such as the sky, the sea, eels, and cartoons. 32 35 39 49

Her strongest attachment is to Hong Mo, whom she calls “Daddy.” She follows his instructions readily, worries when he is injured, and intervenes when she believes he is in danger. 41 42 44

Lingyin is equally devoted to the Little Bats, who were her only friends in the institute. Though she can accept violence around her, she is distressed when the bats die and resolves to become strong enough to protect them. 34 35 44

Abilities & Skills

Dual Esper Powers

Lingyin possesses both electromagnetism and ice abilities, inherited as the daughter of Hong Mo and Mu Siyu. At the time of her LV3 awakening, both powers were still weak. 32

  • Ice Mirror — Creates a triangular ice wall for defense. It blocked Su Mu's punch, though the transmitted impact still knocked Lingyin away. 44
  • Electromagnetic affinity — She has electromagnetic power but is far weaker than Hong Mo and can be affected by the electrical discharge he uses for high-speed movement. 41

Superpower Field Communication

Lingyin's LV3 field enables a secret communication link with Hong Mo.

  • Hong Mo can direct thoughts toward Lingyin as electromagnetic fluctuations. 32
  • Lingyin receives and interprets those fluctuations as his intended words, allowing them to communicate across distance. 32
  • The link was known only to father and daughter while they remained in the institute. 32

Soul Space

Lingyin's LV4 Soul Space is a controllable subspace used primarily to house the Little Bats. 34 38

  • Stores and recalls thousands of Little Bats without needing physical transport. 34
  • Can hold small items, including her identification card. 50
  • Lets her summon bats directly around her body during combat or while changing clothes. 36 50

Little Bat Swarm

Lingyin commands thousands of mutated Little Bats cultivated through Hong Mo's cells and Bloodwing Bat chromosomes. The bats possess simple intelligence and respond to her basic commands. 34

  • Combat swarm — The bats can consume living targets, including riot police and the Black Feather Condor. 35 36
  • Sonic assault — By using ultrasonic waves, the swarm disrupted Su Mu's air barrier faster than she could reconstruct it. 44
  • Poisonous bites — Their bites caused numbness and dizziness in Su Mu after piercing her skin. 44
  • Aerial rescue — Hundreds of bats linked together to catch Lingyin after she was thrown through the air. 44
  • Sedative saliva — Their saliva can incapacitate targets, though Tang Qianqian resisted it. 40
  • Limit — The bats could not feed on the giant yellow eel, and many died during the battle with Su Mu. 44 48

Scientific Analysis

Lingyin retained scientific material she had read in the institute's archives and can apply it tactically.

  • Identified the computer-calculated weakness of Su Mu's atmospheric barrier as ultrasonic waves. 44
  • Uses prior research knowledge to explain specialized devices and systems, including Particle Bombs. 33
  • Helped Hong Mo understand the importance of calculated defensive and offensive ability models. 47

Relationships

  • Hong Mo — Father. Their private electromagnetic communication sustained them during captivity; he escaped the institute to give her freedom and protect her. 32 34
  • Mu Siyu — Biological mother. Hong Mo told Lingyin about her while they were separated in the institute. 32
  • Little Bats — Her closest companions and engineered creatures under her control; Lingyin considers protecting them a personal responsibility. 34 44
  • Younger sisters — Two experimental siblings born alongside Lingyin, both of whom died during separate experiments. 32
  • Bai Cangye — Government representative who provided Lingyin with the official identity of Remilia Red Scarlet after Hong Mo accepted amnesty. 49

Story Role / Major Arcs

  • Institute captivity and awakening — Communicates with Hong Mo after his transformation, receives her name, and awakens to LV3 while becoming physically frail. 32
  • Institute escape — Reunites with Hong Mo during the invasion, identifies the Particle Bomb threat, reveals Soul Space, and brings the Little Bats out of captivity. 33 34
  • First life outside — Sees the sky for the first time, assists Hong Mo and the bats against threats, and begins adapting to ordinary life. 35 36
  • Chongqing pursuit — Lives briefly with Hong Mo in Chongqing, then aids him against Su Mu by breaking the latter's air barrier. 40 44
  • State amnesty — Accepts “Remilia Red Scarlet” as her legal name after Hong Mo agrees to the state's conditions, ending their immediate fugitive status. 49 50

Notable Quotes

“Daddy, is this the sky?” 35

“I'll definitely protect the little bats from now on.” 44

Trivia

  • Hong Mo chose “Lingyin” because she liked the imagined sound of wind chimes beside a bed, despite never having experienced wind in the institute. 32
  • Her forged ID originally listed her as Remilia Scarlet; the government later formalized her identity as Remilia Red Scarlet. 37 49
  • Although she preferred the nickname Lingyin, she accepted Remilia Red Scarlet as her formal name. 49
