Background / History

Yuanfeng led the Phoenix Clan as one of the three principal commanders opposing Shen Ni and the Ferocious Beast Clan. She joined Zulong and Shi Qilin in rallying the Innate Three Clans’ armies to restore peace to the Primordial World 23.

During the war in the Far West Lands, Yuanfeng fought Taowu while the other clan leaders confronted the remaining great Ferocious Beasts. When Shen Ni descended, she transformed into her true form alongside Zulong and Shi Qilin to resist him, but all three were struck down by his power 24. The World-Extinguishing Millstone later annihilated millions of Alliance Army soldiers before her eyes; she attempted to defend her clansmen alongside the other leaders, only for Hongjun to shield them and order their withdrawal 25.

After Shen Ni's defeat, Yuanfeng trapped Qiongqi with Nirvana flames, burning his wings black and exhausting him until he was captured and sealed. The Three Clan leaders subsequently shared thirty percent of the Heavenly Dao Merit awarded for ending the calamity, using it to heal their injuries and advance their cultivation 27.

Following Shen Ni's defeat, Yuanfeng advanced to the Primordial Origin Golden Immortal realm. The Phoenix Clan subsequently established itself at the southern Undying Volcano and brought the feathered races under its rule 27 34.

As the Three Clans’ ambitions grew, the Dragon and Phoenix Clans fought a prolonged war on the Qilin Clan's Central Continent, choosing that battlefield to spare their own territories. The conflict caused devastating casualties without producing a decisive victory 36. Yuanfeng agreed to Hongjun's proposed truce after learning of the threat posed by outsiders and systems. His promise to hold a sermon offering guidance beyond the Primordial Origin Golden Immortal realm also influenced her decision 37.

Yuanfeng later gathered with Zulong and Shi Qilin outside Purple Heaven Palace to attend Hongjun's lectures. By his final lecture, she had been stuck at the peak of the Primordial Origin Golden Immortal realm for a long time and eagerly awaited instruction on the higher cultivation paths 48 60.

When a new universe became accessible, Yuanfeng entered with the Phoenix Clan's army despite Zulong's accusation that her clan had killed more than a million Dragon Clan warriors. She subsequently joined Zulong and Shi Qilin in forcibly extracting the universe's origin. Their refinement annihilated its worlds and inhabitants, perfected their laws, and allowed all three leaders to reach the Primordial Great Golden Immortal realm 62 64. Immediately after the breakthroughs, Zulong attacked Yuanfeng to avenge his fallen warriors. When Shi Qilin attempted to leave, Yuanfeng and Zulong temporarily redirected their attacks toward him, refusing to let him remain outside their conflict and profit from it 64.

The peace did not endure. During the renewed Three Clans war, she fought Zulong and Shi Qilin, broke through Zhulong's Time Turbulence with Southern Bright Fire, and severely injured Zhulong 73.

After the war devastated all three clans, Yuanfeng swore to protect the Primordial World. Heavenly Dao Shichen named her the divine beast of the south, reducing the Phoenix Clan's karmic burden through descending merit 73. The merit reduced the Three Clans' accumulated karmic burden by more than half. Yuanfeng then bowed to Hongjun and departed with her surviving clansmen; her appointment did not permanently suppress her or prevent the Phoenix Clan from moving throughout the world 73.

During the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, Yuanfeng arrived in the Cosmic Universe with other major powers to contend for Chaos Origin. She participated in the ensuing melee, whose shockwaves killed countless beings and caused worlds to collapse 166. A later statement by Hongjun's avatar indicated that the Phoenix and Qilin Clans had both gained something during the Cosmic Universe conflict, although Yuanfeng's specific acquisition was not identified 194. After Yang Mei established the layered Cosmic Sea and scattered Space Dao Marks throughout its worlds, the Phoenix Clan mobilized alongside other factions to search for them 170.

In the calamity's final battle, Yuanfeng joined Shi Qilin against Nuwa, Fuxi, and six Ancestral Witches. She questioned whether the siblings were truly determined to oppose them, but Fuxi justified his hostility by citing the Innate Three Clans' slaughter of the Human Race. After more than a dozen eras of fighting, the combatants were severely wounded and exhausted. Their final attacks fractured the Primordial World into several enormous continents before Hongjun ended the calamity. With the tribulation qi gone, their killing intent dissipated, and they were horrified by the destruction 208.

Personality

Yuanfeng is resolute and fiercely protective of the Phoenix Clan. Shen Ni's destruction of Alliance Army soldiers provoked her immediate fury, and she continued standing beside Zulong and Shi Qilin even when confronting an enemy far beyond their strength 24 25.

She is also capable of pragmatism. Though the Phoenix Clan had been at war with the Dragon Clan, she accepted Hongjun's mediation when he explained the larger danger facing the Primordial World 37. After the Three Clans’ catastrophic final conflict, she accepted responsibility for guarding the south rather than continuing the struggle for supremacy 73.

Her desire for greater cultivation also shapes her decisions. She specifically asked Hongjun about his promised sermon before agreeing to the truce and later showed keen interest in his teaching on higher realms 37 60. This ambition could become ruthless: she participated in refining an inhabited universe to destruction for a breakthrough and helped attack Shi Qilin when he tried to withdraw from her confrontation with Zulong 64.

Her acceptance of divine-beast duties did not end her participation in major conflicts. She later fought for Chaos Origin and opposed the Human Race's representatives during the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. Her angry appeal to Fuxi and Nuwa was rejected when Fuxi held the Three Clans accountable for human deaths 166 208.
