Background / History
Fierce Beast Calamity
Zulong was already the Dragon Clan's patriarch when Taotie defected from the Fierce Beast Clan and brought intelligence of Shen Ni's imminent breakthrough. He received Taotie in the Dragon Palace and supported a joint campaign by the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans against the Fierce Beasts. 22
As one of the coalition's three leaders, Zulong rallied the allied armies to “act on heaven's behalf” and marched on the Far West Lands. During the battle, he fought Hundun personally, transforming into a Nine-Clawed Golden Dragon after Hundun forced him back with chaotic qi. 23 24
The coalition suffered heavily when Shen Ni deployed the World-Extinguishing Millstone. Zulong ordered an immediate retreat, then—wounded and supported by a broken longsword—called on Hongjun, whom he believed to be Luo Hou, to intervene. 25 After Shen Ni's death, he ordered the rout of the remaining Fierce Beasts and received thirty percent of the Heavenly Dao's merit alongside Yuanfeng and Shi Qilin, which propelled him into the Primordial Golden Immortal realm. 27
Dragon Clan Expansion
Following the calamity, Zulong consolidated the Four Seas and placed every aquatic race under Dragon Clan rule; clans that refused submission were exterminated. With the Dragon Clan's fortune gathering around him, he became the first of the three patriarchs to reach the peak of the Primordial Golden Immortal realm. 34
He sought to unify the Primordial World under the Dragon Clan, believing its accumulated fortune would enable his next breakthrough. Against Zhulong's advice, he ordered all scaled races to prepare a full assault on the Phoenix Clan. 34
Taiyi later presented Zulong with a jade slip depicting a version of the Dragon-Han Calamity in which the Three Clans were manipulated into mutual destruction. Zulong recognized discrepancies between the scenes and the cultivation levels of Hongjun and Luo Hou he had personally witnessed; he and Zhulong consequently suspended the Dragon–Phoenix war. 36 Hongjun's warning about outsiders and his promise of a Dao lecture persuaded Zulong to formally accept a truce. 37
Conflicts Beyond the Realm
When the Devil Race invaded, Zulong joined Yuanfeng, Shi Qilin, and other Primordial experts in resisting Luo Hou's forces. 38
Later, Zulong entered an outer universe with Yuanfeng and Shi Qilin, intending to refine its origin to reach a higher realm. The three destroyed every remaining world and living being in that universe during the refinement process. Zulong was the first to attain the Mixed Origin Great Luo Golden Immortal realm, then immediately attacked Yuanfeng before turning on Shi Qilin as well. 64
After returning injured to the Primordial World, he declared that the Dragon Clan would become its overlord and vowed to destroy Yuanfeng and Shi Qilin once he found Zhulong. 65
Endgame of the Three Clans
When Zhulong returned with greatly improved cultivation, Zulong rejected his proposal for a ceasefire and instead approved a plan to borrow spiritual treasures from Taiyi's Demon Court. He then led the Dragon Clan, Black Tortoise, Black Serpent, and aquatic clans in a renewed war against the Phoenix and Qilin Clans. 72
During the war, Zulong fought Yuanfeng and Shi Qilin while Zhulong used the Dao of Time to hinder his opponents. Zulong employed the Sunburning Sword and tore off one of his own reverse scales in a desperate attempt to win. 73
Hongjun eventually ended the conflict. Seeing that fewer than one in ten warriors of the Three Clans remained, Zulong swore to suppress the eastern extremity of the Primordial World with his body and have the Dragon Clan bring rain to atone for its sins. Heavenly Dao Shichen granted him the title of divine beast of the east. 73

Zulong is decisive, proud, and intensely martial. He personally led the Three Clans against the Fierce Beasts, fought Hundun at the front lines, and continued commanding the coalition despite severe wounds. 23 24
His ambition grew after witnessing the power of Hongjun and Luo Hou. He viewed the Primordial World as a realm that required a single sovereign and pursued Dragon Clan dominance through conquest, forced submission, and war against the Phoenix and Qilin Clans. 34 65
Despite this ambition, Zulong is not wholly reckless. He detected the inconsistencies in Taiyi's warning and listened to Zhulong's concerns, leading him to suspend the Dragon–Phoenix war before Hongjun brokered peace. 36 37 His remorse after the final Three Clans war was genuine, though his later conduct shows that his desire for supremacy remained difficult to restrain. 65 73
