Background
Chen Xi spent part of his early life in an orphanage. After becoming able to support himself, he left but continued buying supplies for the younger children there. Those memories later shape his response to impoverished Mutant children. 74
He arrives in the Marvel Universe as a man from another world with knowledge of its expected events. At the story’s outset, Wanda Maximoff works as his secretary, and he receives a system-granted choice of power that leads to his Kryptonian transformation. 1 7
After fusing with the Super Kryptonian template, Chen Xi struggles to restrain his strength but rapidly establishes himself by confronting Abomination and Hulk. He defeats Abomination, treats the battle as combat training, and later retaliates against General Ross when Ross orders an attack on him. 2 4 5
Chen Xi initially approaches heroism opportunistically: he accepts Justice Point missions, delegates routine crime-fighting to Terminators, and focuses much of his effort on solar absorption and template advancement. His experiences with persecuted Mutants—especially neglected children—eventually give him a personal reason to pursue a safe settlement called Dream City. 8 38 75
His influence expands from New York to international and cosmic affairs. He forcibly obtains Vibranium from Wakanda, seizes and absorbs the Tesseract from S.H.I.E.L.D., helps settle conflicts involving Asgard, and is ultimately entrusted by Thor with Asgard’s protection. 15 69 115
After being criticized for overlooking ordinary people’s suffering, Chen Xi undertakes a three-month solo journey. Witnessing hunger, war, imprisonment, and displacement causes him to reconsider his detachment and arrange aid for people in crisis. 124 125
Appearance
Chen Xi is most commonly depicted in a black Symbiote Suit designed around a Superman-inspired silhouette. He originally conceals his identity beneath a hood and mask when entering public battles. 4 13
- The suit has a dark, liquid-like texture that spreads across his body on command. 13 26
- Its design resembles Superman’s black suit, with a flowing cape and a large C insignia replacing the traditional S emblem. 13
- In Wakanda, the armor withstands Vibranium spears and energy-gun fire without visible damage. 15
Personality
Chen Xi is confident to the point of arrogance, particularly after gaining Kryptonian power. He frequently treats threats as opportunities to test himself, is dismissive of opponents he considers weak, and is willing to use intimidation or violence when challenged. 5 68 77
He is also calculating. Chen Xi uses fabricated evidence to manipulate the X-Men, carefully leverages rival factions, and turns enemies’ attacks into opportunities to acquire new abilities or political influence. 33 115 141
Despite his opportunism, Chen Xi is capable of loyalty and compassion toward people he considers his own. His concern for Wanda, Jean Grey, Mutant children, and later civilians affected by war becomes increasingly genuine, culminating in his commitment to Dream City and his decision to witness the wider world’s suffering firsthand. 34 75 124
Abilities & Skills
Kryptonian Physiology
Chen Xi’s Bronze Superman physique is fueled by yellow-sun radiation, allowing his physical abilities to increase continuously through solar absorption. 7 38
- Possesses immense superhuman strength, speed, durability, and endurance. 7 53
- Early estimates place his strength at roughly 1,000 tons, above Hulk’s normal-state estimate of roughly 400 tons. 6
- Can absorb solar energy in space at a dramatically accelerated rate. 37
- Has demonstrated Flight, Heat Vision, X-ray Vision, Super Breath, Steel Body, and a Bioelectric Field. 53 70
- His physical resistance does not fully extend to magic or psychic attacks; he specifically identifies magic resistance as a weakness. 7
- Cul Borson’s mental attack temporarily removes all five of his senses, exposing a major defensive gap. 144
Telekinesis
Chen Xi gains telekinesis by injecting the Perfect T-Virus Serum. 24
- Can move objects through mental force. 24
- Uses the ability as part of his expanding superhuman arsenal rather than as his primary combat style. 38
Spatial Manipulation
After absorbing the Space Stone’s energy, Chen Xi gains direct control over several spatial phenomena. 69 70
- Spatial Teleportation — can relocate instantly across an area. 70
- Spatial Stasis — can halt motion, such as stopping distant waves with a gesture. 70
- Spatial Distortion — can twist surrounding space. 70
- Spatial Severing and Reassembly — recorded as acquired Space Stone abilities. 70
- Subspace evasion — avoids Captain Marvel’s attacks by entering Subspace during their lunar battle. 79
- Can hide within space to avoid large-scale attacks and prevent collateral destruction. 142
Copy and Stack
Copy and Stack allows Chen Xi to replicate powers displayed by others and amplify those replicated powers repeatedly. 140
- Copies Thor’s lightning and releases it at dozens of times its original power. 140
- Can reproduce abilities from multiple superpowered opponents, including the Dark Avengers. 141 142
- Replicates more than powers alone; he states the ability can copy anything in the world. 141
- Copies Thanos’s abilities and Infinity Gem effects, then stacks them until they overwhelm Thanos. 148
- His range and exact activation conditions are unclear to observers. 142
- Copying alone does not solve every threat: opponents who rely on physical strength or mental attacks can exploit weaknesses in Chen Xi’s own physique and defenses. 144
Combat Aptitude
Chen Xi begins with limited formal technique but rapidly develops through observation and superhuman processing. 4
- Initially fights like a street brawler, relying on overwhelming strength. 4
- Uses Super Brain to learn nearly all of Abomination’s fighting techniques during a single extended exchange. 4
- Inherits Emil Blonsky’s lifetime of combat abilities after fighting Hulk. 6
- Combines speed, spatial movement, copied powers, and battlefield planning rather than relying only on direct force. 79 142
