History
Yachihoko was associated with an Uchiha “ultimate weapon” from the Warring States Period. Information later heard by Uchiha Itachi described its wielder as Uchiha Mumei, while later accounts identify the sealed ultimate weapon as Uchiha Hikari; the supplied accounts do not resolve the naming discrepancy. 133 139
The technique's perceived danger was a major reason for the wielder's long-term sealing. Hashirama Senju described its core function as linking the chakra of marked people and controlling their minds, and stated that the Senju and Sarutobi clans had jointly sealed its user. 141
After Hikari was freed, Fugaku considered Yachihoko too politically dangerous to retain within the Uchiha clan. He intended to send Hikari to Hyuga Hitoshi, believing this would prevent the technique from becoming a target for hostile forces or causing suspicion within Konoha. 139
Rumors that Fugaku planned to mark Konoha's population and concentrate their chakra into a single fighter drove Itachi to intervene against his own clan. Fugaku later denied any intention to use Yachihoko to unify the shinobi world, regarding the technique as uncertain and unstable despite its potential. 139 140 142
Abilities & Skills
Marking and Control
Yachihoko functions through marks applied to other people.
- A marked target can be controlled “in everything” by the technique's user. 133
- Hashirama's account specifically describes the technique as linking marked individuals' chakra and controlling their minds. 141
- Without an imprint, Hikari's Yachihoko is described as “practically nonexistent” in power. 139
Chakra Aggregation
The technique can instantly gather chakra from every marked person and transfer it to its user or another recipient. 133
- Uchiha clansmen speculated that linking the chakra of an entire village could raise one person's strength near Hashirama Senju's level. 139
- Itachi believed the technique could potentially create a being comparable to, or stronger than, Hyuga Hitoshi within minutes if enough people were marked. 133
- These assessments are presented as fears and speculation; no successful mass-chakra aggregation is documented. 133 139 142
Limitations
- The technique requires targets to bear its mark; without one, its power is severely limited. 139
- Fugaku considered Yachihoko inherently unreliable and unstable, even if it could create a powerful weapon of war. 142
- Its existence attracts hostile interest: Obito and Danzō regarded seizing Hikari and Yachihoko as a potential turning point against the Hyuga clan and Sun God Country. 140
- Hikari's use of the Sun God Seal enhances her overall capabilities, but the context does not establish that this enhancement is part of Yachihoko itself. 178
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Uchiha Clan suspicion — Fugaku arranges for information about Yachihoko to reach Itachi as a test of his judgment, contributing to Itachi's belief that the Uchiha clan poses a danger to the shinobi world. 132 133
- Hikari's release — Fugaku explains to Hikari that her dōjutsu will make her a target and proposes placing her under Hyuga Hitoshi's protection. 139
- Night of the Uchiha Clan Massacre — Itachi assumes Fugaku is about to use Yachihoko to mark people, prompting his attempt to stop the alleged plan. 140 142
- Conflict with Hashirama — Hashirama initially treats the technique as evidence that Hikari must be sealed, while Hyuga Hitoshi challenges the premise that dangerous power must be suppressed solely because of its potential. 141 145
- Shinobi World Tournament — Hikari serves as a judge while possessing both the Sun God Seal and Yachihoko; her Perfect Susanoo remains undisclosed to others. 178
