Background

Loren Morgan receives the technology to manufacture General-Purpose Combat Robots after his system selects NieR: Automata. He spends a month converting the Morgan estate basement into a private laboratory and personally constructs 2B as an exceptionally lifelike combat android. Her AI Brain System enables humanlike speech, behavior, and the possibility of independently developing emotions and consciousness 1 2.

After activation, Loren appoints her his personal secretary and bodyguard. He instructs her to address him as “boss,” provides her Gothic clothing and military goggles, and establishes protecting him as her highest-priority mission 3.

2B becomes Loren’s principal weapon during the investigation into the Morgan family murders. She protects him during the NYPD attack, hunts the surviving gunmen in Mexico, dismantles Kingpin’s organization, and ultimately identifies Hydra through the insignia carried by a suicide-bound sniper 4 6 9 13.

Her confrontation with the Hydra sniper affects her intelligent core: his willingness to die rather than betray his organization makes her question human willpower, emotions, and the soul.
