Background / History
Lynn first receives the blueprint for Droplet Technology as a beginner reward from the Worlds Technology System. He identifies it as an exceptionally advanced probe based on strong interaction forces and considers even an incomplete version capable of transforming the world’s balance of power 1.
After three months of laboratory work, Lynn unveils the first completed Admiral-level Droplet. Its initial test sends Admiral Candidate Gion into the sea despite her use of Armament Haki, while its subsequent pursuit forces Kizaru to evade repeatedly 6 7.
The weapon’s performance attracts the attention of the Marines, the Gorosei, and the World Government. After witnessing it resist Kong, Akainu, and Sengoku, the Gorosei commission three Droplets and agree to fund Lynn’s research and infrastructure 14 17 18.
The first Marine-issued unit is completed a month later at Gran Tesoro. Controlled first by Gion and then by Kizaru, it repels Kaido from Marineford and is later used to defeat Chinjao and the Happo Navy, making the Droplet publicly known as a Marine superweapon 27 29 34 39 40.
Appearance
The Droplet is a person-sized, streamlined object with a rounded head, a sharply tapered tail, and no visible seams or conventional machinery. Its mirror-like surface reflects and distorts its surroundings, giving it an ethereal, liquid-like appearance despite its immense solidity 6 8 31 41.
- Floats silently, usually close to its controller or creator 7 17.
- Possesses an absolutely smooth, reflective exterior 8 17.
- Has a freezing, near-absolute-zero surface that makes direct contact dangerous 8 17.
- Appears deceptively fragile, resembling a droplet of water or mercury rather than a weapon 8 41.
Abilities & Skills
Strong Interaction Material Shell
The Droplet’s outer body is formed from Strong Interaction Material (SIM), with tightly constrained atomic nuclei and locked thermal motion. This construction gives it extreme hardness, seamless smoothness, and a near-absolute-zero surface 17.
- Deflects and refracts Kizaru’s lasers without visible damage 7 8.
- Extinguishes Akainu’s magma on contact 17.
- Refracts Kaido’s Bolo Breath rather than absorbing its heat 33.
- Resists encasement and infiltration attempts using Tesoro’s gold 29.
- Withstood direct attacks from Kizaru, Kong, Sengoku, Akainu, and Kaido 7 14 17 32 33.
- Can still be penetrated by sufficiently powerful Armament Haki; severe internal damage can permanently disable it 9 17.
Recoil Dynamic Engine
An internal Recoil Dynamic Engine provides the Droplet’s propulsion and impact force. It can accelerate from a standstill almost instantly, attack with Admiral-level force, and change direction without conventional deceleration 6 17.
- Moves nearly silently and reflects electromagnetic waves, making it difficult to perceive or track 14.
- Performs abrupt 180-degree and acute-angle turns while retaining speed 7 17.
- Uses distance and acceleration to increase the force of ramming attacks 31.
- Can sustain long engagements through self-supplementing solar and aerial energy 32.
- Its impacts defeated Gion, severely injured Tesoro, nearly killed Burgess, and incapacitated Chinjao 6 27 22 39.
Autonomous Artificial Intelligence
The Droplet is not merely a remotely piloted machine. Its intelligent system can independently execute orders, analyze opponents, and alter its combat pattern in real time 15 17.
- Intercepted Kong repeatedly while adapting to his fighting style 15.
- Can return to its operator automatically after combat 7 17.
- Adjusted its impact output when confronting Sengoku 17.
- Acts on Lynn’s thoughts quickly enough to neutralize threats before Lynn personally responds 22.
Combat Performance Against Kaido
Under Kizaru’s control, a Marine-issued Droplet fought Kaido for roughly two hours. It survived repeated Thunder Bagua strikes, Conqueror’s Haki-infused attacks, Bolo Breath, and Ragnaraku before harassing Kaido into retreat 31 32 33.
- Kaido’s Roaring Thunder Bagua deflected it but left no visible mark 32.
- Ragnaraku created a massive crater but failed to damage its exterior 33.
- The battle reduced its remaining durability tolerance to 11%; its self-repair system restored this to 15% shortly afterward 34.
- Its performance convinced Marine leadership that it could contend with a Four Emperor despite originating as an Admiral-level model 34.
Self-Repair Limitations
The Droplet can repair minor internal damage, but it cannot operate during the repair process. Damage beyond its tolerance threshold risks total destruction 9 17.
- Its exterior can appear pristine even when its internal tolerance has been critically reduced 34.
- At 11% remaining tolerance after fighting Kaido, it was close to its 10% destruction threshold 34.
- Its recovery from 11% to 15% confirms that its repairs can begin rapidly after battle 34.
Control Interfaces
- Lynn’s mental control — The original Droplet follows Lynn’s thoughts through an internal receiver and can return to him on command 7.
- Head Controller — A small blue device that attaches to the user’s forehead and transmits thought commands to a Droplet with near-zero delay 27.
- Ride capability — Kizaru can stand on the Droplet while controlling it, using it as silent high-speed transport to Marineford 29 31.
Relationships
- Figarland Lynn — Creator, original owner, and primary mental controller. Lynn developed the first unit personally and negotiated its production with the World Government 6 7 18.
- Gion — First Marine operator of a commissioned unit; she controls it through the Head Controller during tests against Tesoro 27 28.
- Kizaru — Marine controller and rider who uses the Droplet against Kaido at Marineford 29 31 33.
- World Government / Gorosei — Purchasers and political backers; they commission three units after witnessing its combat capabilities 17 18.
- Marines — Operational users of the first delivered unit, deploying it against Kaido, Chinjao, and the Happo Navy 34 39 40.
- Vegapunk — Regards the Droplet as technology beyond his own work and the Great Kingdom’s known standards, but is denied direct access to the unit 41 42.
Major Deployments
- Initial laboratory tests — Defeats Gion, pressures Kizaru, and proves its durability against lasers and a Light-Speed Kick 6 7.
- Mary Geoise conflict — Protects Lynn during his assault on the Roswald Family, defeats Jean Bart, and stalls Kong 13 14 15.
- World Government demonstration — Resists Akainu’s magma and matches Sengoku’s Haki-enhanced strike during the Gorosei’s evaluation 17.
- Gran Tesoro trials — Under Gion’s control, pierces Tesoro’s awakened Golden Giant and defeats his strongest gold-based defense 27 28.
- Marineford battle — Under Kizaru’s control, withstands Kaido’s assaults and forces him to abandon his attack on Marine Headquarters 31 32 33 34.
- Happo Navy operation — Enables a small Marine force to defeat Chinjao, Sai, Boo, and the Happo Navy with overwhelming speed and force 39 40.
