Jiraiya infiltrated Amegakure to investigate Pain and Akatsuki, but Konan confronted him before he could learn much. Their fight ended with Jiraiya trying to appeal to his former student, while Konan remained unwilling to talk.

  • Jiraiya entered Amegakure inside a toad and began asking villagers about Pain and Ibuse.
  • The bun seller and nearby villagers reacted with hostility when Jiraiya mentioned Ibuse, so he left and sought information at a tavern.

Ch. 119The injured Jiraiya

Jiraiya fought the Human Path and Animal Path Pain, struggling against their summons while Gamaken protected him. After entering Sage Mode, Jiraiya sent the badly injured Gamaken back to Mount Myōboku, where everyone mistook the unconscious toad for dead.

  • The Human Path Pain interrupted Jiraiya as he trapped Konan and forced him to release her.
  • The Animal Path Pain summoned a three-headed Hellhound, and Jiraiya summoned Gamaken to hold it off.
  • The Hellhound split into more dogs when struck, while the Animal Path Pain summoned an invisible chameleon that ambushed Jiraiya.
  • Jiraiya prepared Sage Mode as Gamaken fought the summons and suffered injuries, then sent Gamaken back to Mount Myōboku.
  • Gamabunta and the two Toad Sages saw the unconscious Gamaken and believed he had died before Jiraiya completed Sage Mode.

Ch. 120Don't chicken out, or you'll be eating at the kids' table

Jiraiya summoned Fukasaku and Shima to fight Pain, whose presence and Rinnegan intrigued them. After the Toad Sages killed Pain’s chameleon summon, three more of Pain’s bodies appeared, and Jiraiya prepared to face them.

  • Pain sensed Jiraiya in the rubble and noticed that his presence had become powerful and unfamiliar.
  • Jiraiya told Fukasaku and Shima that he faced the legendary Rinnegan, but Shima scolded him and Fukasaku for losing heart.
  • Shima captured the invisible chameleon with her tongue, and Fukasaku killed it with a slicing jet of water.
  • Pain’s Human Path, Naraka Path, and Asura Path appeared, and Jiraiya realized that all three had the Rinnegan.
  • Jiraiya began to announce himself as the gallant Jiraiya, but Fukasaku and Shima punched him and cut him off.
