Power Progression
The following milestones concern individual members, rather than a shared clan rank.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| One-Tomoe Sharingan — Shingetsu | 10 | Her unusual eyes already possess exceptional power at the Sharingan’s most basic stage. |
| Three-Tomoe Sharingan — Shingetsu | 120 | Fusion with another pair of mystic eyes evolves her Sharingan; its power approaches or exceeds the legendary Mangekyō despite retaining three tomoe. |
| Two-Tomoe Sharingan — Hayato and Yota | 135 | Their awakening allows them to join Madara’s army marching against the Fire Temple. |
| Mangekyō Sharingan with Eternal Mangekyō-level ocular power — Shingetsu | 245 | Her tomoe form a flowerlike pattern resembling the God Tree’s Udumbara blossoms. Madara and Izuna judge her ocular power equal to Madara’s Eternal Mangekyō, an unprecedented direct leap from three tomoe. |
Background / History
Warring States Period and Konoha’s Founding
The Uchiha and Senju became hereditary enemies through repeated employment on opposing sides of conflicts. Their comparable strength meant that hiring one clan often prompted the opposing faction to hire the other. Successive battles accumulated into a blood feud, long after both clans had forgotten their shared ancestry 238.
During the Warring States Period, the Uchiha seized more than a dozen mines from other shinobi clans. Only the Senju possessed comparable mining assets 2. Their eventual alliance, led by Madara and Hashirama, established Konoha and convinced other formerly hostile clans that peaceful coexistence was possible 19 26.
Izuna died before the village’s founding. His loss deprived the Uchiha of the administrator who had managed their internal affairs, diplomacy, finances, and military logistics, leaving Madara without his principal political support 8 135.
Early Village Isolation
By Konoha’s sixth year, peace had not erased the Uchiha’s hostility toward the Senju. Their aloof conduct, contempt for weaker clans, and rumors of emotional instability kept them isolated. Their walled compound remained effectively a village within the village, while other shinobi clans increasingly gathered around the Senju 1 32 62.
The clan was wealthy but poorly fed. Its mines had passed into Konoha’s centralized management, providing substantial annual dividends alongside mission income and business profits. Nevertheless, shinobi nutritional requirements left even an elder’s daughter eating modest meals; ordinary clansmen fared worse, though none went hungry 2 8.
Shingetsu’s Reforms
Shingetsu’s birth created a direct blood connection between the founding clans: her father was Uchiha elder Hōkaku, and her mother was Senju elder Tōka. Madara protected Tōka during pregnancy, named the child Uchiha Shingetsu, and claimed her as his disciple. His attachment to her became a decisive reason for remaining in Konoha 1 5.
Concerned about the clan’s future destruction, Shingetsu favored building support among commoners and future academy-trained shinobi rather than courting clans already aligned with the Senju 5. Her farming venture attracted desperate commoners with the prospect of profit. Its abundant harvest improved food supplies and eventually compelled traditionalist shinobi to participate in economic development 32 216.
The clan’s social behavior softened alongside its improving circumstances. Members began openly greeting Madara and Shingetsu, offering food and gifts to children, and welcoming visitors into local shops 33 93. Their farming reputation became strong enough that Tobirama struggled to recruit farmers for competing Senju projects 65.
Alliance and Expansion
The alliance with the Uzumaki was the Uchiha’s first new shinobi-clan alliance since Konoha’s founding. Madara and Mito sealed it publicly, providing the isolated Uchiha with respected allies and access to outstanding sealing expertise. Their joint shop opened beside the Hokage Building despite protests from Senju elders 75 76.
The clan also participated in Konoha’s wider diplomatic and military expansion. An Uchiha-led delegation secured gold and an iron deposit from Sunagakure in exchange for increased food assistance 118. After an attack on Shingetsu, battle-hardened clansmen left their civilian businesses, retrieved their weapons, and mobilized against the Fire Temple under Madara 134 135.
Madara later assigned Yan, Yota, and Hayato to administer his shogunate in the Land of Grass. Shingetsu recruited Cat Granny to manage its livestock and meat business 158.
Ancestry and Political Ascendancy
The revelation that Indra and Asura were brothers established that the Uchiha and Senju were related descendants of the Sage of Six Paths. Many older members suffered emotional breakdowns upon realizing that generations of warfare had involved killing their own distant kin 201 202.
The same revelation transformed the Uchiha’s public standing. Once treated as an ominous red-eyed clan, they became celebrated descendants of a god, attracting gifts and overtures from other clans. Izuna, active again in the later story, credited Shingetsu for this reversal and resolved to make the clan a dependable support for her and Madara 216 218.
Izuna and Shingetsu subsequently placed Uchiha members in ministerial roles, pairing them with civilian secretaries to balance prestige and practical authority 261.

Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the clan’s hereditary kekkei genkai and the foundation of its martial standing 248.
- Awakening: Requires Uchiha blood and extreme emotional upheaval, described through gaining love and then losing it 3.
- Perception: Enhances observation and reveals chakra flow, although its perceptive capabilities do not equal the Byakugan’s 38.
- Activation control: Uchiha users employ their bloodline and chakra to activate or deactivate the eyes as needed 248.
- Advanced forms: The Mangekyō grants powerful ocular techniques, but overuse can cause blindness 245.
- Protection: The clan uses no equivalent of the Hyūga’s Caged Bird Seal to prevent outsiders from obtaining its eyes 248.
- Individual exceptions: Shingetsu’s death-line perception comes from her Sharingan’s fusion with the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception; it is not established as a general Uchiha ability 18.
Fire Release
Fire Release is one of the clan’s best-known specialties 13.
- Great Fireball Technique: A signature Uchiha technique, demonstrated by Shingetsu and Inari 14 89.
- Dragon Fire Technique: Shingetsu sends flames along wire to burn an immobilized opponent 38.
- Weapon reinforcement: Uchiha swordsmanship can coat a blade in Fire Release chakra 3.
Throwing Techniques
The Uchiha are renowned for shuriken techniques independent of their ocular powers 13.
- Their distinctive throwing methods attack from multiple directions and angles 14.
- Sharingan Windmill Triple Blade combines Sharingan perception with throwing skills and wire-based restraint 38.
- The academy’s Uchiha children all achieve perfect accuracy during Hōkaku’s initial throwing lesson 13.
Swordsmanship and Nintaijutsu
Uchiha swordsmanship emphasizes speed, while the clan’s distinctive Nintaijutsu produces swift, powerful close-range movement 3 145.
- Flame Leaping Sword: A Fire Release-enhanced sword technique passed down through generations 3.
- Sun Halo Dance: Combines Body Flicker with Flame Leaping Sword to deliver three strikes in an instant; Madara teaches Shingetsu Izuna’s swordsmanship 16.
- Weapon dependence: Shingetsu cannot use her preferred Uchiha sword techniques without a suitable blade 15.
Genjutsu and Chakra
- Genjutsu: The clan’s illusion techniques are renowned throughout the shinobi world 15.
- Chakra reserves: Uchiha generally possess more chakra than civilian-born shinobi or ordinary shinobi clans, but less than the Senju 3.
- Civilian aptitude: Many noncombatant members can potentially learn chakra molding and simple ninjutsu; only a small minority, including Momoka, cannot mold chakra at all 77 83.
Culture and Appearance
- Clan clothing: Academy children wear black, high-collared outfits with red-and-white fans embroidered on their backs 10.
- Typical features: Black hair, attractive faces, and an aloof bearing are repeatedly associated with the clan. Kagami’s curly hair is explicitly unusual among the Uchiha 10 11 17.
- Emotional bonds: Family, affection, and romantic exclusivity carry exceptional importance. Hōkaku initially faces criticism for having a child without marrying 10 17.
- Pride and social awkwardness: Members often hide their desire for companionship behind cold expressions and claims that strong people are destined to be lonely 62.
- Training tradition: The clan traditionally believes harsh physical discipline produces strong fighters. Madara’s childhood assessments leave many peers afraid of him well into adulthood 2 124.
- Dining customs: Unlike the Senju’s communal meals, the Uchiha favor individual servings and elaborate tableware 8.
- Sweet tooth: Jam-filled rice cakes draw long queues. Later, excessive desserts cause widespread weight gain and cavities, prompting Madara to close dessert shops and impose diets and training 32 196.
- Peacetime leisure: Elderly veterans take up Konoha Cards after prosperity removes the need to risk their lives in battle 158.
Holdings and Resources
- Uchiha Clan Compound: A residential district enclosed by tall blue-brick walls. Madara’s residence occupies its center, with Hōkaku’s house nearby 9 32.
- Training ground: Used for Madara and Shingetsu’s sparring sessions 3.
- Naka Shrine stone tablet: Contains the claim that combining Senju and Uchiha powers grants “all creation.” Madara and Hashirama later destroy its surviving fragments 5 177.
- Mining dividends: Substantial income from former clan mines transferred to village management 2.
- Local businesses: Include tea and sweet shops, some operated by veteran combat shinobi 77 93 134.
- Uchiha–Uzumaki shop: A joint venture proposed to sell sealing scrolls and Uchiha-made Explosive Tags 75 76.
- Land of Grass administration: Managed by Yan, Hayato, and Yota under Madara’s authority 158.
- Madara’s ocular-technique notebook: A record of his youthful Mangekyō experience, described as a clan treasure and given to Shingetsu 247.
External Relationships
- Senju Clan — Former mortal enemies, co-founders of Konoha, and political rivals. Shingetsu’s mixed parentage and the discovery of their common ancestry challenge the old divide 1 201 252.
- Uzumaki Clan — Formal allies whose sealing expertise and commercial partnership help break the Uchiha’s isolation 75 76.
- Aburame Clan — Shingetsu’s invitation for Shiring to raise bees opens cooperation; the Aburame head considers closer ties but no formal alliance is confirmed in the supplied passages 65 75.
- Hashirama Senju — Supports Uchiha integration. His later police service improves their public image, and Uchiha officers proudly preserve records of working alongside him 75 264.
- Black Zetsu — Manipulates the ancestral conflict and attempts to exploit Uchiha emotional attachments. He regards Shingetsu as an obstacle because she keeps Madara attached to Konoha 72 131 233.
Alternate-Timeline Uchiha
Massacre-Night Intervention
Tobirama arrives during an alternate world’s Uchiha massacre and confronts Itachi, who is killing his own clansmen. Outside the compound’s barrier, Danzō orders his forces to finish exterminating the survivors after learning of Itachi’s defeat 279.
Tobirama’s investigation identifies Itachi’s cooperation with a masked man calling himself Madara and condemns the massacre as both a moral catastrophe and a dangerous loss of military strength. The Uchiha police contingent is also annihilated 282. Tobirama nevertheless rescues some clansmen, and Kagami later worries about leaving young Sasuke and those survivors behind 303.
Fourth War-Era World
In another world, Izuna learns of the clan’s destruction through Sasuke’s memories. He confronts the reincarnated leaders over their praise of Itachi and insists that the Uchiha must be resurrected. Sasuke initially refuses because he fears returning his family to a village and wartime system that would destroy them again 291 292.
The massacre becomes an indictment of Konoha’s founding ideals. Other clans recognize that the destruction of a founding family threatens their own security, but village rules, Anbu, Root, and Danzō’s control make departure dangerous 279 293.
Otherworld Visit
During a later visit to the Otherworld, Shingetsu confronts Fugaku over taking Itachi to a battlefield and failing in his responsibilities as both parent and clan leader. She also rejects seven-year-old Itachi’s attempt to graduate early, ordering him to concentrate on his education 319.
