Background / History
Liang Bing was formerly the Apocalypse King during the City of Angels' Three Kings Era. She describes the ancient male angels' abuse of female angels and the rebellion through which the women seized the Heavenly City and expelled the men. Although she usually jokes freely, recalling that oppression gives her voice a bitter edge 120.
She began researching the Space-Time Gene thousands of years earlier, while still in the City of Angels. Rose became its sole recipient, making her particularly important to Liang Bing. By the time Mercer encounters her, Liang Bing is the fallen angel Morgana and commands the demons 91 94 99.
Before arriving in Huangshi City, she met Rose on the road. Rose knew she was not human but treated her claims to be Morgana as jokes. Liang Bing also encountered the injured Angel Yan; the two enemies interfered with each other's consciousness, and Yan made Liang Bing forget that she was the former angel guard eligible to become Angel Queen 93 101 120.
Appearance
- Face and build: Described as a beautiful, mature woman with an exceptional figure 96 113.
- Features: Has distinctly East Asian features, which attract attention when she accompanies Mercer to Stark's banquet 123.
- Clothing: Wears a camel-colored trench coat when visiting Mercer to discuss traveling to his world 113.
- Fragrance: Carries a seductive scent that is lethal to ordinary humans 94.
Personality
Liang Bing is uninhibited, irreverent, and fond of suggestive teasing. She openly questions Mercer about his unusual eyes, repeatedly embarrasses Rose with sexual advice, and mocks Mercer when he becomes flustered. Her jokes often conceal genuine technical interest: she initially claims to want to meet Mercer because he is handsome, while privately wondering how his spatial abilities could resemble her unique research 94 96 114 117.
Her scientific curiosity can override other concerns. Mercer's unfamiliar powers fascinate her, and she seeks access to his universe chiefly to study them. She is equally enthusiastic about rare experimental subjects, kissing him on the cheek after receiving captive beings for research 113 180.
She remains openly hostile toward angels, but cooperates pragmatically with Mercer. She agrees to stop invading Earth and defend it against aliens without ending her war against the angels. When Yan threatens her in Huangshi City, Liang Bing invokes the danger to civilians and Yan's promise to protect Earth, persuading her to withdraw 97 101 112.
Abilities & Skills
Space-Time Gene Research
Liang Bing created the Space-Time Gene implanted in Rose and understands its theoretical applications 91 94.
- Stellar-scale spatial transfer: Uses an engine-generated simulation to demonstrate how a fully developed Spacetime God could transport the Sun toward Earth and destroy the planet 113.
- Development estimates: Believes Rose could master such applications after roughly a thousand years of training 114.
- Personal limitation: Explicitly states that she does not possess the Space-Time Gene herself. Her simulation is an explanation of its potential, not a demonstration of her own ability to move the Sun 113 117.
- Research goal: Hopes studying Mercer's calculation-free spatial movement will help advance her gene research 113.
Spatial Combat
After studying Spatial Power shared by Mercer, Liang Bing applies it directly in battle 191.
- Attack redirection: Her Suicide Squad uses spatial ripples to turn its explosive attacks and Ego's shock waves against him 191.
- Protective cloaks: Creates rippling cloaks that reflect a limited degree of incoming attacks back at the attacker 191.
- Portals: Opens a route for Mysterio to return to Mercer with the Power Stone when additional Celestials arrive 191.
Stellar-Energy Attacks
- Demonic hands: Attacks Arishem with two demonic hands releasing the combined energy of dozens of stars 192.
- Limit against Arishem: His book absorbs the blast and returns it at greater intensity, forcing Mercer to block the counterattack for her 192.
Systems Engineering and Surveillance
Liang Bing adapts her technical expertise to Mercer's Southern Heavenly Gate system 123 132.
- Information network: Accepts responsibility for building a network to monitor the solar system, with Mysterio assisting her 132.
- Universe-search guidance: Explains how Mercer can combine identifying features, energy, and magic in a Southern Heavenly Gate program to search for a specific universe 133.
- Energy warning: Advises him not to power that search using stars in the Milky Way 133.
- Multiversal travel assistance: Helps Galacta reach Mercer in the multiverse 169.
- Celestial investigation: Her surveillance network detects Earth's Celestial Seed and another group of Celestials, including Sun Wukong. She later uses Mercer's Search Program to locate the seed's cocoon 171 186.
- Cross-universe limitation: Her original world's system cannot read the local inhabitants' data after she enters Mercer's universe; she turns to Southern Heavenly Gate instead 123.
Genetic Backup
Liang Bing teaches Mercer a resurrection method described as unique to the demons 122.
- A Genetic Backup can restore a deceased individual by transforming a suitable host into that person 122.
Consciousness Interference
- Liang Bing and Yan can infiltrate each other's consciousness and alter their perceptions 101.
- The technique can also work against Liang Bing: the injured Yan successfully obscures her identity until Mercer heals her 101.
Lethal Fragrance
- Her scent kills ordinary humans without leaving an obvious trace. Two foreign mercenaries die merely from smelling it before her arrival in Huangshi City 94.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Demon Wings: Her fleet, seen in Earth's atmosphere as enormous black wings spanning more than a hundred meters. She leaves A'To in command before traveling to Mercer's world 99 115.
- Personal engine: Generates the miniature Sun-and-Earth simulation used to explain stellar spatial transfer 113.
- Southern Heavenly Gate: Mercer's shared system, used for research, surveillance, and the technological development of her forces 112 132 180.
- Armored robots: Several heavily armored robots transport the invisible cages containing her new research specimens 180.
- Research specimens: Mercer supplies Zombie Wanda, Zombie Sentry, and Diablo; he identifies Diablo as a Celestial Seed from Earth-199999 179 180.
Relationships
- Alex Mercer — Research partner, close companion, and later her God King. They exchange technical knowledge, and he brings her to his universe in return for the demons protecting Earth. Their relationship becomes closer than ordinary friendship, but Mercer explicitly denies that she is his girlfriend 113 120 121 133 169 180.
- Rose — Recipient of Liang Bing's Space-Time Gene and a particular focus of her affection and attention. Liang Bing encourages Rose to develop her power, though her provocative advice frequently embarrasses her 91 114 117.
- Angel Yan — Mortal enemy. Liang Bing ordered the ambush in which a subordinate wounded Yan; after recovering, Yan attempts to kill her but retreats rather than endanger Huangshi City's civilians 101.
- A'To — Loyal subordinate who addresses her as queen. She entrusts him with the Demon Wings, the study of Southern Heavenly Gate, and arrangements for defending Earth 99 115.
- Mysterio / Quentin — Collaborator in the surveillance network and Earth's Celestial Seed investigation; later a fellow officer of Mercer's faction and an ally against Ego 132 179 180 191.
- Galacta — Ally whom she helps travel through the multiverse. Galacta calls her “Big Sister Liang Bing” and admits that she does not understand Liang Bing's technology 169.
- Lianfeng — Initially hostile after recognizing her as Morgana. Mercer stops Lianfeng's attack, but the commander remains unwilling to have Liang Bing in her presence 120 121.
- Ge Xiaolun — Opposes Mercer's agreement with her because of the demons' killings and Yan's near-death 120.
- Lockdown — Explores the city with her while Mercer is away. She initially mistakes him for artificial intelligence; he insists that he is a living being 126.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Huangshi City and the Earth-Protection Agreement
- Investigates Mercer after he transports thousands of civilians to Huangshi City. His interception of Yan's Flame Sword convinces her that he could be an extraordinary asset against the angels 94 98.
- Asks A'To to scan him, but the results identify an ordinary human without dark energy, contradicting what she has witnessed 99.
- Accepts Mercer's proposal that her demons cease invading Earth and defend it from alien forces, while retaining their conflict with the angels 112.
- Transfers authority over the Demon Wings to A'To and orders preparations for a jump point near Earth and a habitable planet in the solar system 115.
- Has her identity publicly exposed at the Black Great Wall. Mercer upholds their agreement despite Lianfeng's attack and Ge Xiaolun's objections, then takes her through a portal to his universe 120 121.
Research in Mercer's Universe
- Teaches Mercer Genetic Backup creation, attends Stark's banquet, and identifies disguised infiltrators among the guests 122 124.
- Builds the surveillance network with Mysterio and helps Mercer replace exhausting manual multiverse searches with an automated program 132 133.
- Investigates the living embryo inside Earth. Its energy barrier blocks further scans, prompting her interest in obtaining a specimen for study 179.
Founding the Celestials
- Reminds Mercer of his plan to establish a faction. He names it the Celestials and restores her title of Apocalypse King, placing her in charge of technology 180.
- Receives twenty recruits to form the technology-focused First Division. Mercer requires them to operate Southern Heavenly Gate, fight effectively, and eventually possess physiques at least equivalent to third-generation super soldiers; this requirement concerns her troops, not her own rank 180.
Celestial Conflict
- Supports Mercer's decision to merge with the powerful Earth-core seed, Zombie Wanda, and Zombie Sentry 186.
- Receives Yang Jian and Sun Wukong during Mercer's seclusion. Their explanation leads her to realize that Earth's Celestial Seed is the body Mercer was originally meant to possess 189.
- Uses spatial techniques against Ego and opens the portal through which Mysterio leaves to summon Mercer 191.
- Attacks Arishem with multi-star energy, but his counterattack overwhelms the technique and requires Mercer's intervention 192.
