Academy Enrollment and Friendships

Harukawa meets Ruri when he takes the seat beside her at the academy’s enrollment ceremony. During class introductions, she names Reika Hyuga as her best friend, and Reika reciprocates. Harukawa soon begins walking to school and attending practical lessons with both of them 17 18 20 21.

She and Reika attempt to defuse an argument between Uchiha and Hyuga children on the playground, but withdraw when the children begin fighting. Harukawa subsequently watches Ruri battle Uchiha Itachi, admiring Ruri’s Byakugan while worrying about the strength of Itachi’s ninjutsu 24 26 27.

Outside school, Harukawa joins Ruri, Reika, and Akagimaru for a meal at the Konoha Barbecue Restaurant. She helps choose the restaurant and already knows about Reika’s unusually large appetite 31 32 33.

Sparring Tournament

After diligently practicing her ninjutsu, Harukawa advances through the academy’s sparring tournament and chooses Reika as an opponent in one of the final bouts. They exchange close-range attacks until both approach their physical limits, after which Harukawa throws three Ruowu fitted with Explosive Tags 41 43 44 45.

When Reika appears injured by the explosions, Harukawa rushes over to check on her. Reika exploits the opening by holding a Ruowu against Harukawa’s stomach, winning the match. Harukawa accepts the loss with relief that her friend is unharmed and finishes fourth overall 45 46.

Training with Ruri

Harukawa asks Ruri to teach her ninjutsu suited to her Wind Release chakra nature. He selects Wind Release: Wind Blade but decides to teach her the Rasengan first 43 47.

On their training day, Ruri takes her to Ichiraku Ramen for her first meal there, then leads her to his secluded training hill beside a small river. After seeing his Rasengan demonstration, she eagerly agrees to learn it and quickly impresses him with her chakra control 48 49 50.

Her compassion extends beyond her friends: she tries to stop the playground dispute and praises Shan Yan’s courage for challenging a stronger opponent. In combat, however, that concern becomes a liability. She deliberately weakens her Explosive Tags to avoid hurting Reika, then abandons her guard when she thinks Reika has been injured 24 42 45 46.

Despite her timid manner, Harukawa takes pride in her training. She promises to surpass Ruri’s throwing skill through practice and eagerly anticipates showing him her improvement during sparring.
