Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Human Avatar manifested 112 Horace completes a vessel using the Law of Restraint. It allows Lilith to experience bodily sensations, including pain and bleeding, but contains an Oath through which he can restrain her.
Asmodeus’s power absorbed 184 200 Lilith swallows her child’s power during the Asmodeus incident. Her acquisition of its authority over lust is later confirmed, making her the “Mother of Lust.”

Appearance

  • Usual Avatar: A slender, pale-skinned girl with waist-length, flame-red hair and red eyes. Horace deliberately chooses a small, youthful body in the hope of limiting the trouble she can cause 112.
  • Clothing: Initially wears a white lab coat, then receives a deep red dress trimmed with black lace and leather shoes from Sellen. She later ties her hair into twin ponytails and wears a matching small top hat with another dark red dress 112 113 119.
  • Altered human form: Can make herself taller and more mature-looking, with facial features obscured as though by mist 115.
  • Caelid manifestation: Assumes a hill-sized, fleshy-red body with six clawed arms, a large abdominal mouth, and a swollen belly containing the contested Avatar 183.
  • True form: Has none; she explicitly identifies this as the reason for the title “Formless Mother” 185.

Personality

Lilith treats pain and bleeding as proof of existence. Upon awakening in her Avatar, she immediately pinches herself and celebrates its ability to hurt and bleed. Her fascination extends to childbirth, which she prizes for its combination of suffering, blood, and the creation of life 112 117 183.

Playful and deliberately provocative, she enjoys making others angry—especially Marika and Horace. Insults often please rather than discourage her, and she welcomes Horace’s discovery of new ways to scold her. She readily adopts an innocent expression when confronted about schemes she has already carried out 117 148 179.

Her maternal affection for Horace is possessive but genuine in its own terms. She calls him her child, supplies him with power, and drives away gods seeking a connection with him. That protectiveness does not prevent her from manipulating events for entertainment or creating crises he must resolve 152 153 179 185.

Lilith prefers competition and bloodshed to stagnation. She welcomes Scarlet Rot’s opportunity to compete despite their rivalry, celebrates the prospect of war in the Land of Shadow, and considers ordinary arena violence insufficient after acquiring broader tastes 124 166 200.

Abilities & Skills

Blood and Bloodflame

Lilith manipulates blood as a weapon, a healing medium, and a source of divine power.

  • Healing: Restores the Storm King’s damaged flesh and broken bones, while extracting poison through blood mist 130.
  • Bloodflame Frenzy: The blood released during that healing contaminates his camp, causing soldiers to attack their comrades 130.
  • Large-scale manifestation: Fills Caelid’s plains with a sea of blood and raises Bloodflame from its surface 183.
  • Cursed-Blood: Produces concentrated Cursed-Blood as a gift for Horace; the Gate of Myriad Laws consumes it 152.
  • Blood appropriation: Takes blood that Asmodeus attempts to consume during its battle with Horace 184.

Avatar Creation and Bodily Alteration

Lilith uses her authority to alter bodies and provide vessels for other Outer Gods.

  • Changes her own Avatar’s apparent age and obscures its face 115.
  • Arranges Rennala’s pregnancy to create a prospective vessel that will draw the Moon’s attention away from the queen 116 117.
  • Uses her existing body as a sample for another Avatar, which both Stars and Moon seek to inhabit 179 185.
  • Protects the shared Avatar inside Asmodeus so thoroughly that the creature cannot harm it 185.

Pain and Childbirth

Lilith can experience and manipulate pain beyond her own body.

  • Relives Marika’s experience of delivering the Omen twins through her blood 116.
  • Claims she can adjust Rennala’s perception of pain during childbirth 117.
  • Identifies Hötter’s overlapping authority over childbirth and explains its extension into reincarnation 200 201.

Divine Perception and Communication

  • Observation: Uses mirrors to watch Marika and the Empyrean twins; perceives a female “other half” within Miquella 126.
  • Mental contact: Speaks directly into Horace’s mind and maintains a connection with him across distance 179.
  • Blood-channel communication: Relays Marika’s message to Godfrey through a pool of blood 148.
  • Divine knowledge: Explains that Horace possesses sufficient Godhead but lacks the spiritual energy needed to fill it, making the Gate of Divinity unnecessary for him 166.

Other Demonstrated Powers

  • Scarlet Rot resistance: Plays in and tastes the Lake of Rot without suffering harm, explaining that its rot would have great difficulty hurting an Outer God 120.
  • Instant elimination: Makes attacking dragonkin soldiers vanish with a snap of her fingers 120.
  • Interference with divine influence: Redirects the Moon’s descending light and forces it to retreat from Horace and Rellana 152.
  • Blessing: Joins other Outer Gods in empowering Horace and Rellana’s unborn daughter, contributing to a soul far stronger than the child’s body 198.

Limitations and Restraints

  • Weak physical vessel: Horace initially limits her Avatar’s physical strength to that of an ordinary little girl; she cannot push him out of his chair 114.
  • Binding Oath: The safeguard placed during her Avatar’s creation remains effective even during the Caelid incident 112 183.
  • Golden chains: Horace binds and suspends her during the Storm Army battle to prevent further interference 131.
  • Spacetime obstruction: The Spacetime Rift blocks her connection with Horace at Crumbling Farum Azula 176.
  • Restrictions on intervention: Horace later forbids Outer Gods from directly interfering with reality, permitting influence only through agents and followers 200.
  • Threat of sealing: In the “If” storyline, she stops pushing Horace because he could seal her away 369.

History

Arrival in a Human Body

Horace creates Lilith’s Avatar in Sellen’s workshop using the Northen Family’s materials and technical expertise. After accepting the name he chooses for her, Lilith awakens, learns to walk within a few steps, and delights in her new senses. Her first stated outing is to provoke Marika 112.

Her arrival unsettles Daphne, who fears that Sellen is preparing a replacement daughter. Sellen reassures Daphne that Lilith will not take her place 112.

Rennala and the Lake of Rot

Lilith makes Rennala pregnant, explaining that a child suitable to become the Moon’s spokesperson will divert its attention from the queen. She also admits a personal motive: witnessing childbirth firsthand rather than merely experiencing its pain through blood 116 117.

She later accompanies Horace, Messmer, and Alberich to investigate the Lake of Rot. Along the way, Horace stops her from taking Alberich’s blood and from touching the Night Witch. At the lake, Lilith activates hidden platforms, eliminates their dragonkin guards, and proceeds toward Scarlet Rot’s sealed presence 119 120.

After Horace retrieves Malenia and Miquella, Lilith explains that stagnation in Marika’s sealed blood caused their afflictions. She proposes freeing Scarlet Rot as a cure, but Horace rejects the danger to the world. She then identifies Malenia as Scarlet Rot’s chosen child and a contender through whom the Outer God could return under the thousand-year competition’s rules 123.

Interference in the Storm War

Bored by Horace and Rellana’s tactical discussions, Lilith leaves to intervene herself. She heals the wounded Storm King but contaminates his camp with blood that drives soldiers into Bloodflame Frenzy, intensifying the fighting 129 130.

Horace locates her watching the resulting slaughter from a boulder and binds her with golden chains before proceeding with his attack on the Storm King 131.

The Shared Avatar and Asmodeus

Lilith helps the Moon obtain an Avatar, then reveals that she has made only one body despite interest from multiple Outer Gods. At her urging, Horace imposes an Oath to prevent its prospective occupants from acting without restraint 179.

The arrangement culminates in Caelid, where Lilith stages a battle against Horace and the Oath Knights as a ritual devoted to pain and wounds. She extracts the prepared Avatar from her body, swallows it, and becomes the monstrous Asmodeus after a blood-red meteor descends 183 184.

Asmodeus is also described as Lilith’s abandoned child, whose power she has taken. Unable to harm the protected Avatar, it seals its resentment and remaining power into her trident, creating the Eshma Sword. Horace activates the Oath, Asmodeus collapses, and Lilith emerges unharmed beside the surviving blue-haired Avatar 184 185.

Lilith gives Horace the sword and reveals that the scheme’s real gift was intended for him, not the competing Outer Gods. Stars and Moon subsequently share the surviving Avatar under the name Yera 185 187.

Hötter and Restrictions on the Outer Gods

Lilith participates in blessing Horace and Rellana’s unborn daughter. The combined blessings make the child’s soul dangerously stronger than her body, prompting Horace to confront the Outer Gods and establish rules against direct intervention 198 199 200.

Although Lilith accepts the restrictions, she privately considers working through Mohg’s club in Limgrave as a loophole. She also explains that Hötter’s authority includes reincarnation: refusing that process could prevent all new births in the Lands Between 200 201.
