Background / History

Ryuseki grew up relying on his older brother, Kouhi. Their mother died when Kouhi was five, while their father died when Ryuseki was about four; Kouhi subsequently became Ryuseki’s guardian and caretaker 18 45.

He and Kikka You were childhood friends and classmates. During an outing to White Love Lake Park, Ryuseki accompanied her through the park but focused privately on observing and photographing the unusual White Love tree for his diary 2. Soon afterward, he witnessed Kikka You being deliberately struck by a car, unsuccessfully pursued the driver, and carried her to safety while bystanders refused to help 3.

Kikka You died of organ failure from blood loss despite resuscitation. Ryuseki blamed himself, kissed her body goodbye, and wished that he had died in her place 4 5. Her mother barred him from the funeral and blamed him for her death, yet he continued visiting Kikka You’s grave every day after she was buried 6. His grief developed into depression, guilt, and a determination to uncover the conspiracy he believed caused her death 7 8.

At school, Ryuseki became involved with Lin Yingbin and Ryuu Mufei’s investigation of Zhi. Mufei sensed a connection between Ryuseki and Zhi upon arriving in Huabolia Country, though he did not explain it 16. Ryuseki’s hidden power began to surface after Cheng Shun Gong insulted Kouhi, revealing that Kouhi had long forbidden him from fighting because of the dangerous power within him 23 24.

During his duel with Slumber, Ryuseki’s rage resonated with the Full Moon Dragon inside him. The resulting transformation nearly killed him and confirmed that he hosts one of the Eight Mythical Beasts 32 33. He later fought alongside Ryuu Mufei to save Lin Yingbin during the latter’s violent dissociative episode, refusing to abandon his friend even after being severely injured 34 39 41.

Personality

Ryuseki is impulsive, willful, and strongly possessive of the people he loves. He dislikes being protected or feeling replaced, a trait intensified by growing up in Kouhi’s shadow and by his guilt over Kikka You’s death 14 30.

He is deeply loyal and initially trusts his friends without reservation, even refusing to believe Lin Yingbin would harm him during Lin’s violent episode. However, Ryuseki believes that a friend who truly does wrong must be stopped, confronted, and eventually forgiven 14 34 39.

His desire to protect others drives both his best and worst actions. He repeatedly risks himself to protect Kikka You, Meisha, Lin Yingbin, Ryuu Mufei, and Kouhi, but grief and anger can make him reckless and unable to judge situations rationally 26 32 40 42.

Ryuseki and Ryuu Mufei confront Lin Yingbin after his other personality takes control. Ryuseki refuses to give up on his friend despite suffering repeated injuries, ultimately helping bring the crisis to an end after Ryuu Mufei is critically wounded protecting Meisha 34 42.
