Nature

The Force is an all-encompassing power present in every person, animal, and plant. Force-sensitives differ from ordinary beings not by possessing the Force, but by being able to sense, communicate with, and consciously use it. 609

The Holy Landing Research Institute defines it as an energy field with a dual nature of stability and wildness. 1142 Its use varies greatly between individuals: most Force-sensitives display heightened senses, speed, or precognition, while rare individuals develop unique, non-transferable “gifts.” 881

Midi-chlorians

Midi-chlorians are microscopic organisms regarded as the carriers through which living beings sense and use the Force. Higher density corresponds to a stronger connection. 304

Light and Dark Sides

The Force is commonly divided into the Light Side and the Dark Side according to the methods by which it is cultivated and used. 581

Tang Xiao maintains that Light and Dark cannot truly be merged, as their balance is eternal and attempts to unite them are futile. 1479 Lucien Draay similarly warns that a person who enters the deepest darkness may be unable to return. 1499

Balance

The balance of the Force can be disrupted by widespread slaughter, suffering, and the expansion of the Dark Side. The deaths of large numbers of Jedi during the fall of the Jedi Order flood the Force with darkness and negative emotions. 1509

The Ones—Father, Son, and Daughter—are closely tied to this balance:

• Father — the balancer of the Force, described as its source of power and the being capable of controlling it. 1791 2172

• Daughter — possesses the power of the Light Side. 2172

The Son and Daughter are not embodiments of the Force itself, but exceptionally powerful beings; Father restrains their conflict to preserve balance. 2172

Force Technology

Force technology uses the Force as a technological or mystical power source. Ancient artifacts create passages between the physical world and the “Force world,” allowing them to draw upon immense external energy. 1032 2574

• Muur Talisman — A palm-sized Sith artifact that transformed millions of Mandalorian Crusaders and later affected billions in Taris’s underground city over thousands of years. 2574
• Dark Reaper / Force Harvester — Extracts Force energy from living beings, concentrates it into destructive power, and can kill all life across a vast area. 609
• Kresh’s Gauntlet — Can identify a threat’s source through the Force and defend against attacks from that source. 598

Force Storms

A Force Storm is a catastrophic manifestation of extreme imbalance. Darth Tenebrous theorizes that if the Dark Side overwhelms the Force on a galactic scale, the resulting storm can tear apart everything it touches—especially Force-sensitives. 2367

Darth Sidious attempts to induce this condition through organized war, oppression, and mass death, using a passage through himself to direct the storm’s annihilating power into reality. 2574
