Background / History

The Upper Class and Lower Class were initially separated by birth and property rather than appearance. Slaughter and Torment established the racial division system from Joyful Heaven Capital, intending for a “hero” and the Lower Class to eventually overthrow them. 763 799 800

Torment's accidental wish after suffering severe sulfuric-acid burns changed the division into a visible one: Upper Class individuals developed albinism, while the gap between the two populations grew into institutionalized oppression. 765 799

The Upper Class later codified its authority through the Upper Class Protection Convention. Lower Class people who provoked, insulted, or mocked an Upper Class person could be detained and sent to the Forbidden Zone; after that site's destruction, the revised convention redirected detainees to the Circus of Love and Justice. 72 579

Appearance

Upper Class individuals are commonly identified by their unnaturally pale, albinotic complexion, a trait treated as innate within Paradise World's later society. 587 756

Legal Protection

The Upper Class Protection Convention criminalizes disrespect from the Lower Class and provides for their detention in designated punishment or entertainment sites. 72 579

The Upper Class first appear as the dominant caste of a strict industrial society. Their protection convention sends offending Lower Class people to the Forbidden Zone, where the Slaughter Game takes place. 72

Circus of Love and Justice

After the Forbidden Zone is destroyed, the Upper Class replaces it with a carnival in which detained Lower Class people perform lethal acts for their entertainment. 579 598

Gu Mian infiltrates the circus as a Lower Class person, disrupts its script, and attacks the Upper Class audience during the dungeon's finale. 592 616

Judgment and Crown

The Upper Class publicly stages Louis's punishment, nominally allowing Lower Class people to judge the former circus director. In practice, Louis is treated as Lower Class after being disowned, despite retaining Upper Class physical traits. 756

Joyful Heaven Capital's variety show turns Lower Class advancement into a spectacle, with Upper Class residents voting to prolong the suffering of contestants they dislike. 800 801

Collapse of Privilege

After the Upper Class are displaced into a new world, their former status no longer grants them authority. Teacher Slaughter and other survivors struggle to accept that there is no longer an Upper Class district to which they can return. 839 843

Evil God's Rollback

In the rollback scenario, the Evil God's script forces many Upper Class individuals to enact their own defeat. They remain conscious of Lower Class infiltration but cannot control their bodies or prevent scripted losses. 861 863

Gu Mian's victory does not end the hierarchy: the victorious Lower Class rapidly rename themselves the Upper Class and begin recreating the same oppressive system. 864 866
