Personality

Sakura initially has a strong crush on Sasuke and openly identifies Ino as the person she dislikes most. She feels jealous of Naruto and Sasuke's close bond, and worries that she is unnecessary beside them. 27 28

Although initially frightened by real combat, Sakura does not abandon Team 7 when the Land of Waves mission proves more dangerous than reported. She becomes determined to stop relying on Naruto and Sasuke for protection, trains her chakra control into physical strength, and later guards both teammates while they are unconscious. 31 33 42 46 47

Academy and Team 7 Formation

Sakura first appears as one of the girls drawn to Sasuke at the Ninja Academy. After she and Ino accidentally cause Naruto and Sasuke to kiss, Sakura is assigned with them to Team 7 under Kakashi Hatake. She is initially jealous of Naruto and Sasuke's friendship and fears she contributes little beside them. 10 27

During Kakashi's bell exercise, Sakura takes part in Team 7's coordinated plan, helping the trio secure both bells and demonstrate the teamwork Kakashi was testing. 28 29

Land of Waves Mission

Sakura is frightened when Team 7 encounters hostile ninja and learns that Tazuna's escort mission exceeds its stated rank. Nevertheless, she chooses to continue after Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi promise to protect her. 31

While Kakashi recovers after the battle with Zabuza, Sakura begins training chakra-enhanced strength. She resolves not to remain the teammate holding Naruto and Sasuke back. 33

Chūnin Exams

At the Chūnin Exam registration site, Sakura arrives with Naruto and Sasuke to enter the exams. 40

In the Forest of Death, she refuses Sasuke's order to flee from an Uzumaki clansman and fights beside him, using her newfound strength to send the attacker flying. The enemy ultimately restrains both of them with Adamantine Sealing Chains and injects Sasuke with an unknown substance. 42

After Naruto and Sasuke lose consciousness, Sakura hides them and commits herself to protecting them. She battles Zaku, Kin, and Dosu alone for two days, using chakra-enhanced strikes and Body Flicker movement to keep them away from her teammates. Dosu defeats her after exploiting her inexperience and concern for Naruto and Sasuke, but Naruto awakens shortly afterward and thanks her for holding out. 46 47 49
