Itachi arrives with Obito during the massacre and takes over the interrogation of Su Ye. Before fleeing, Su Ye challenges Itachi’s justification that the killings are “for the sake of Konoha” and the Uchiha 1 2.

Akatsuki and the Five-Tails Crisis

Following Danzo’s death, Itachi tells Su Ye that he knew Root conducted secret experiments but had not expected its collusion with the Akatsuki. He warns that disrupting Obito’s tailed-beast plans will invite retaliation 12.

He subsequently accompanies Kisame to capture Han at Iwagakure’s border. Kakashi engages him while Su Ye fights Kisame. Once Kisame is killed and the mission becomes untenable, Itachi uses Susanoo to cover his withdrawal 19.

Discovering the Massacre Conspiracy

Nagato reveals that Obito fears Itachi’s Sharingan and has repeatedly tried to eliminate him. Itachi has used Akatsuki rules to keep Obito at bay while investigating the massacre 20.

At the Uchiha shrine, the stone tablet reveals that the clan discovered a secret agreement between Konoha’s high command and Madara. The authorities used rebellion as a pretext to force Itachi to kill his kin, while Obito exploited his concern for Sasuke. Su Ye rescues him from an elite squad sent to suppress the investigation, and the two agree to work together 21.

Fighting Obito and Madara

A supposed rescue mission leads Itachi and his allies into a Forest of Death trap. There, he manifests Complete Body Susanoo and joins Su Ye in destroying Madara’s phantom 22.

Back in Konoha, Itachi helps protect Nagato and suppress Obito’s Kamui. Sasuke turns against Obito and joins the defenders.
