Background / History

Vegeta is the Saiyan prince, born with a battle power of 3,000 and described as exceptionally talented. Before his arrival on Earth, his power had risen to nearly 20,000. Gogeta identifies him as vastly stronger than Earth’s defenders and warns that they require accelerated training to survive his arrival. 7

After arriving with Nappa, Vegeta battles Earth’s defenders and later fights Goku one-on-one. He creates an artificial moon and becomes a Great Ape, but the combined efforts of the defenders defeat him; they allow him to leave Earth alive. 32

He later returns to Earth, where Gogeta trains him by deliberately provoking his pride and helps him awaken Super Saiyan. Their initially hostile dynamic gradually becomes one of instruction and rivalry. 32

Personality

Vegeta is proud, arrogant, and intensely competitive, particularly toward Goku. He reacts strongly to being treated as inferior or called a “perennial runner-up,” responding to Majin Buu’s mockery with an immediate attack despite the danger. 17

His ambition is persistent rather than passive: even after falling behind Goku, he continues training and seeks new transformations. He is especially determined to achieve Super Saiyan 4 before Goku and later takes satisfaction in finally overpowering him in that form. 15 47

Saiyan Arrival

Vegeta arrives on Earth with Nappa as a major threat. Despite his Great Ape transformation, he is defeated by Goku and the other defenders and retreats. 32

Vegeta joins Goku, Gogeta, the Gohans, and Trunks in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. He witnesses Gogeta’s power and openly acknowledges his own Super Saiyan 2 progress. 13 14
