Background / History
Goku trains under King Kai while Earth's fighters prepare for Vegeta and Nappa's arrival. During this period, Gogeta recognizes that Goku's future growth will be extraordinary, though he also expects Goku to seek battles with any powerful opponent he encounters. 5 31
After being dead in a future timeline, Goku refuses a revival wish. He tells Future Gohan to grow stronger, protect Earth, and seek challenges beyond the limits of his current world. 11
Goku later reunites with the others at Kami's Lookout and enters the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. He eagerly challenges Gogeta, eventually revealing Super Saiyan 3, though their clash must end when its force threatens to collapse the chamber's space. 13 14
Following further training, Goku perfects Super Saiyan 3. He fights the otherworldly Majin Buu alongside Vegeta and Future Gohan, but Buu overwhelms them; Goku escapes with Instant Transmission and considers fusion with Vegeta as their remaining option. 16 17
Personality
Goku is driven by martial arts, training, and the chance to face stronger opponents. He readily challenges Gogeta despite the obvious difference in their strength and remains excited rather than discouraged by new transformations or divine opponents. 13 14 22
He can also be trusting to a fault. Gogeta contrasts Goku's more responsible conduct in earlier eras—such as preparing successors to protect Earth—with his later tendency to take risks in pursuit of stronger battles. 20
Despite this obsession, Goku trains both young Gohan and Future Gohan, focusing on their foundations, ki control, and combat techniques. 15
Appearance
Goku is a black-haired Saiyan with a tail when it has been restored. In Super Saiyan 3, his hair grows to his waist and his eyebrows disappear; in Super Saiyan 4, he gains red fur, long black hair, and red markings around his eyes. 14 47
- Often wears an orange martial arts uniform. 13
- Is transformed into a child in the GT timeline before later being restored to adulthood. 50
- Regains his tail through Porunga's wish in the GT timeline. 50
