Background / History

Ye Feng was a One Piece fan from Earth who died in a traffic accident and soul-transmigrated into the body of a child captured by human traffickers. After the traffickers encountered a sea tornado, he drifted at sea until Marshall D. Teach rescued him in the South Blue in Marine Calendar year 1512. Teach accepted him as a younger brother and gave him the name Marshall D. Ye Feng. 1

Having knowledge of future events, Ye Feng resolved to become powerful through his own efforts. He trained under Teach for a year alongside Avril, a former slave whom he took in as his younger sister. During this period, he learned Haki, reached the Sword King realm, and awakened Conqueror’s Haki. 1 3

After Teach departed for the New World, Ye Feng and Avril became pirate hunters. Ye Feng killed Hungry Wolf Gral, collected the 46 million Beli bounty, and drew the attention of Vice Admiral Verne and Marine Headquarters. 3 5 8

Ye Feng later travelled through the East Blue, meeting Shanks, Luffy, Ace, Sabo, Garp, Kuina, Zoro, Nami, and Makino. He rescued Luffy from the Bluerjam Pirates before leaving Windmill Village to study under Koushirou at Isshin Dojo in Frost Moon Village. 11 21

At Isshin Dojo, Ye Feng gained access to the jade pendant within his mind, which contained martial-arts manuals. He began cultivating the Nine Yang Manual, learned Heaven-Slaying from Koushirou after observing it once, and eventually left the dojo for further travels. 22 26

After returning to Windmill Village four years later, Ye Feng consumed the Blood-Blood Fruit. The fruit transformed his blood, body, hair, and eyes, while its bloodlust initially proved difficult for him to control. At age twelve, he departed for the New World and travelled to Marineford via Loguetown. 38 44

At Marineford, Ye Feng trained under Garp, developed his Blood-Blood Fruit abilities, and began a relationship with Ain. He subsequently sought guidance from Silvers Rayleigh at Sabaody Archipelago, where Rayleigh’s Conqueror’s Haki pressure exposed the instability of Ye Feng’s rapidly accumulated foundations. 63 73 132 142

Ye Feng later opened all of his acupoints and mystic gates through reverse cultivation of the Nine Yang Manual. His aptitude subsequently allowed him to rapidly learn Marine techniques, including Soru and Geppo, while Garp’s training refined his Haki and physical capabilities. 128 129 153 156 201

The World Government appointed Ye Feng as CP9’s commander following Spandine’s death. He later came into contact with Cipher Pol 0 and the Five Elders, whose demands and ruthless methods increasingly placed him in conflict with his own judgment. 232 294 295

Appearance

Following the Blood-Blood Fruit’s transformation, Ye Feng’s appearance changed notably. 40

  • Snow-white short hair, formerly ink-black. 40
  • Blood-amber eyes, formerly black. 40
  • Grew from roughly 1.4 meters to 1.6 meters after his bodily transformation. 40
  • Usually carries a sword on his back. 6 44
  • Was mistaken for a girl by Smoker because of his appearance. 43
  • His eyes can return to their usual color after he replenishes his blood through plasma or blood consumption. 74

Personality

Ye Feng is ambitious and strongly values freedom, declaring his aims as becoming the strongest in the world and attaining “freedom without restraint.” 3 15 He later defines his ultimate ambition as standing at the top of the world, living freely and unfettered, and seeing the entire world clearly. 142 He is confident in his abilities, often calmly confronting far stronger or more established figures such as Vice Admiral Verne, Garp, Arlong, Zephyr, and Rayleigh. 6 15 31 119 120 140

He is fiercely protective of those he considers family. He takes Avril in as his sister, rescues Luffy after learning of his capture, and confronts Arlong over Nami’s safety. 3 17 18 31 35 His protectiveness is paired with ruthlessness: he kills Gral, Mountain Bandit Gram, Bluerjam, hostile animals, Cipher Pol agents, and hostile criminal affiliates without hesitation. 4 12 18 39 255 333

The Blood-Blood Fruit magnifies Ye Feng’s accumulated killing intent into a tangible, Asura-like aura that can terrify observers and overwhelm opponents. 88 89 119 120 221 Although he recognizes the danger of losing himself to its bloodlust, he remains willing to use intimidation, violence, and deception when he considers them necessary for survival or secrecy. 89 94 333 334

Ye Feng is also playful, shameless, and prone to teasing people close to him, particularly Ain. 74 102 114 He is highly adaptable and analytical in combat, rapidly identifying the limitations of unfamiliar Devil Fruit abilities and adjusting his tactics accordingly. 221 225 253 255

  • Replaces and purifies his blood, strengthening and toughening his body. 40
  • His blood attracts animals and Sea Kings that seek to consume it. 40
