Two attendants emerged from behind the doors. Haotian walked in front, handsome and refined, while Yaochi followed behind him, her bright eyes lively and spirited.
Haotian stepped forward and bowed to the crowd. "By the master's command, the time has come. Please enter."
Hearing this, everyone composed themselves and entered Purple Heaven Palace in an orderly manner.
As Di Jun passed Haotian, his steps paused slightly, and he gave him a deep look.
So this was the future Jade Emperor Haotian?
After everyone had entered, Haotian should have closed the doors and withdrawn with Yaochi. Yet he suddenly remained where he was.
Yaochi took two steps before noticing that Haotian had not followed. She turned back in confusion. "Haotian, what's wrong? We should close the doors and withdraw."
Haotian ignored her.
An exceedingly strange expression appeared on his face, as though he were engaged in an intense inner struggle. His cheeks gradually reddened.
Yaochi stared at him in bafflement. "Haotian?"
Haotian took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled, repeating this several times.
Then, under Yaochi's stunned gaze, Haotian abruptly threw back his head. One hand rested on his hip while the other pointed at the doors. He laughed with all his might:
"Hahaha! I, Haotian, was born with extraordinary foundations and boundless fortune! With one hand on my hip and one pointing to the heavens, all living beings shall bow before me! Even the Heavenly Dao must lower its gaze before me! A mere palace door—close at once!"
As his words fell, he thrust out his palm. With a thunderous boom, he slammed Purple Heaven Palace's doors shut.
Inside Purple Heaven Palace, silence fell instantly.
Everyone's gazes turned in unison toward Haotian, their expressions utterly spectacular.
Yaochi stood at the side with her mouth hanging open and her eyes wide as saucers. She seemed petrified as she stared at Haotian in utter disbelief.
The crowd was silent for a moment before hushed whispers erupted.
"Fellow Daoist Haotian... did he encounter a bottleneck in cultivation and lose control of his mind?"
"Good lord... how did he manage to do something like that in public? He dared to say it, but I don't even dare listen!"
"Young people these days... their brains don't seem to work quite right..."
Since Haotian was Hongjun's attendant, no one dared laugh aloud. Yet their strained expressions and twitching lips already said it all.
Several people even secretly used their magic power to record the scene.
Di Jun, Taiyi, and the other transmigrators could not bear to look directly at this future Heavenly Emperor.
This is fucking Haotian?
The future ruler of the Three Realms? The Jade Vault High Emperor Haotian?
This is too embarrassing. It's simply beneath all dignity!
Haotian's face had reddened all the way to his ears. Cursing the system within him frantically, he lowered his head and fled the scene as quickly as possible.
After that little interlude, everyone gradually turned their attention to the great hall.
At the very front of the hall sat three Prayer Mats. Dao charm flowed across them, and one could tell at a glance that they were extraordinary. Behind those three Prayer Mats were another six arranged in a neat row.
Everyone immediately understood that these Prayer Mats likely held great significance.
Zulong, Yuanfeng, and Shi Qilin exchanged glances. With a flash, they seated themselves directly on the three foremost Prayer Mats.
They were the only three Grand Luo Golden Immortals present, of the highest seniority and greatest strength. No one dared contend with them.
The remaining six Prayer Mats became the focus of everyone's competition.
The Three Pure Ones looked at one another and, without any ceremony, moved to sit upon the first three of those Prayer Mats.
Seeing this, Nuwa also prepared to seize a Prayer Mat. Fuxi instinctively grabbed her hand.
Nuwa turned back in confusion. "Brother?"
Fuxi opened his mouth, wanting to say something. Deep down, he always felt that Sage positions were Hongjun's scheme, shackles through which the Heavenly Dao bound living beings.
But as the words reached his lips, he recalled what Shichen had told him upon the River of Time. After a moment's hesitation, he finally released her hand and said softly:
"It's nothing. Your brother will help you claim one."
Nuwa nodded. With a flash, she sat upon the fourth Prayer Mat. Fuxi manifested the Innate Bagua and stood guard beside her, his gaze sweeping the surroundings warily.
Of the final two Prayer Mats, Kunpeng claimed one, while Hongyun took the other. His friend Zhenyuanzi stood behind him with a smile.
Di Jun, Taiyi, and the other transmigrators looked at the six Prayer Mats and nodded inwardly.
Although there were three more Prayer Mats than in the original Primordial World, the greater course of events did not seem to have shifted much. These minor changes were likely the butterfly effect caused by the transmigrations.
They had no intention of competing for the Prayer Mats. As transmigrators, how could they possibly become puppets of the Heavenly Dao and Hongjun? The path they sought was to attain the Dao through laws.
Just then, Purple Heaven Palace's doors were pushed open again, and two figures stumbled inside.
"Wait! Wait!"
The newcomers were none other than Jie Yin and Zhun Ti.
After entering, the two quickly swept their gazes over the hall and found every Prayer Mat occupied. Their expressions immediately darkened.
They exchanged looks, each seeing the unwillingness in the other's eyes. They could sense that those Prayer Mats carried enormous opportunities.
Jie Yin suddenly burst into loud sobs. "Senior brother! Our fate is too bitter! The West was already barren, and from the Ferocious Beast calamity to the era of Demon Ancestor Luo Hou, every battle was fought upon our Western Continent! The mountains and rivers were shattered, and we lived each day in constant fear!
"Now, after traveling so far to hear the Dao, we do not even have a seat! Who will take pity on us?"
Zhun Ti immediately began crying as well. "That's right, senior brother! Why do all misfortunes befall our West? Our fate is so bitter! Who will take pity on us?"
As they spoke, the two directly embraced each other and wept bitterly. Their cries were so mournful that listeners would grieve and onlookers would weep.
Yet every great power present had cultivated through countless yuanhui. They all sneered at such pathetic theatrics.
Taiyi could not help mocking them directly. "You arrived late. What nerve do you have asking others to give up their seats? Stop wailing like you're at a funeral!"
Jie Yin's crying paused, only for him to weep even harder. "You... ah! Junior brother, look! We already have such bitter fates, yet someone still looks down on us! How miserable!"
Zhun Ti followed suit and wailed loudly.
Hongyun, seated on a Prayer Mat, showed a look of pity. After hesitating for a moment, he suddenly rose and said, "Fellow Daoists, I shall yield this seat to you."
Zhenyuanzi's expression changed, and he hurriedly stopped him. "Hongyun! The Prayer Mats are unusual. Why give one to another?"
Hongyun waved his hand and smiled. "It is nothing. Why should we cultivators rely on a mere Prayer Mat? The Western Continent has indeed suffered calamities time and again. It is only one Prayer Mat; let them have it."
Hearing this, Jie Yin hastily thanked him and plopped down onto Hongyun's Prayer Mat.
Zhun Ti's gaze swept over the remaining people. He looked at the Three Pure Ones, but the three were closely united and not easy to deal with, so he withdrew his gaze.
He then looked toward Nuwa. Fuxi immediately became vigilant, the Innate Bagua spinning rapidly before him. Zhun Ti gave an awkward smile and looked away.
At last, his gaze landed on Kunpeng, and his eyes immediately lit up.
"Fellow Daoist Kunpeng, why not yield your seat to me?"
Kunpeng said nothing, his face gloomy.
Yuanshi opened his eyes, cast Kunpeng an indifferent glance, and said, "How can one clad in fur and scales sit among us? Get down at once."
Kunpeng's expression became even uglier.
Seeing someone speak in support of him, Zhun Ti approached Kunpeng as he spoke. "Fellow Daoist Kunpeng, I advise you to yield your seat."
Before his words had even faded, he suddenly produced the Seven Treasures Tree. A streak of seven-colored radiance swept out, directly knocking Kunpeng off the Prayer Mat! Zhun Ti seized the chance to plop down on it.
Jie Yin also immediately brought out a magic treasure and stared at Kunpeng warily, preventing him from retaliating.
Kunpeng faced the two alone, with the Three Pure Ones also speaking against him. For the moment, he did not dare act and could only direct his raging fury toward Hongyun.
If Hongyun had not started by yielding his seat, none of this would have happened afterward!
He shot Hongyun a vicious glare.
Hongyun was somewhat helpless beneath that glare and could only shake his head with a bitter smile.
Di Jun and Taiyi watched the scene, their eyes fixed on Kunpeng as a sharp glint flashed within them.
The turmoil in the hall did not escape Hongjun's notice in the rear hall.
Sitting cross-legged, he slowly spoke to the void. "Heavenly Dao, must there be six Sage positions?"
An impassive voice came from the void. "Yes. There must be six Heavenly Dao Sages. In addition, I have only recently taken form, and someone must still merge with the Dao for the Heavenly Dao to become more stable.
"Only after these conditions are met can the Law of Immortal Dao be fully spread throughout the Primordial World, and the world barrier of the Primordial World become more solid."
Hongjun was silent for a moment, then nodded. "So that is how it is. However, I cannot decide the matter of merging with the Dao on my own. I must first seek instruction from Dao Venerable Shichen and let the Dao Venerable make the arrangements."
The voice in the void said, "That is only proper. Dao Venerable Pangu and the others are no longer in Hundun, but Dao Venerable Shichen's Dao body remains in the Primordial World. He must be contacted as soon as possible."
Hongjun gave a sound of acknowledgment. With a light sweep of his sleeve, his figure vanished from where he sat.
In the next moment, Hongjun's figure slowly appeared within the great hall.
Seeing Hongjun appear, everyone except the Ancestral Witches rose and cupped their hands. "Greetings, Senior Hongjun!"
"Senior Hongjun has selflessly transmitted the Dao throughout the Primordial World. This junior admires you beyond measure!"
"Indeed! Senior Hongjun not only ended the Ferocious Beast calamity, but later defeated Luo Hou, and now transmits the Dao throughout the Primordial World! With Senior Hongjun here, the Primordial World is truly blessed!"
For a time, praises rose one after another. Everyone wanted to leave a good impression on Hongjun, hoping to receive a little more guidance during his teachings.
Zhun Ti's eyes shifted, and he suddenly prostrated himself on the ground as he declared loudly, "This junior believes that, given Senior Hongjun's merits, he should be the Dao Ancestor of the Primordial World!"
Everyone cursed the shameless bastard inwardly. His flattery was deafening, but they still cupped their hands in unison and followed along. "Greetings, Dao Ancestor! May the Dao Ancestor's Dao fortune know no bounds!"
The transmigrators stood amid the crowd, sneering inwardly.
Thank him for transmitting the Dao? Wasn't he only doing what the Heavenly Dao demanded?
And the conflict between Dao and Demon—wasn't that Hongjun's conspiracy? It was all for the authority of the Primordial World!
A bunch of fools, kept in the dark without even knowing it!
Every transmigrator secretly swore that one day, they would expose Hongjun's scheme, destroy the Heavenly Dao, and take the seat of honor in Purple Heaven Palace for themselves!
Though that was what they thought inside, they still offered their congratulations outwardly. Only when facing Hongjun directly did they truly feel how terrifying he was.
Hongjun raised a hand, signaling everyone to be quiet. His voice was calm, yet carried an unquestionable authority.
"Enough. The seating arrangements will not change from now on."
"The transmission of the Dao... shall begin."
