Background / History

Robin grew up isolated on Ohara after eating an unnamed Devil Fruit. Other children called her a monster, excluded her from their games, and mocked her; despite this, she did not become resentful and continued hoping to see her mother again. Her mother, Nicola Olvia, had gone to sea when Robin was two, while her father was absent; books became her constant companions. 1

She lived under the care of her uncle and aunt, Luo Ji, but was forced to perform household work, beaten and insulted by Luo Ji, and fed stale black bread. Robin endured the abuse because she believed Olvia would eventually return for her. 3 4

Robin rescued the washed-ashore Ye Chen and brought him to her wooden shack. Though initially frightened and embarrassed by his behavior, she worried about him when he was left outside in a storm, brought him back to shelter, and gradually came to trust him as a companion. 1 3 6

Ye Chen’s protection made Luo Ji fearful of mistreating Robin openly. He later built Robin a two-story treehouse over three months so she could leave her aunt’s home; Robin happily accepted it, using her Devil Fruit to make an arm-ladder to reach it.
