Background / History

Robin grew up isolated on Ohara after eating an unnamed Devil Fruit. Other children called her a monster, excluded her from their games, and mocked her; despite this, she did not become resentful and continued hoping to see her mother again. Her mother, Nicola Olvia, had gone to sea when Robin was two, while her father was absent; books became her constant companions. 1

She lived under the care of her uncle and aunt, Luo Ji, but was forced to perform household work, beaten and insulted by Luo Ji, and fed stale black bread. Robin endured the abuse because she believed Olvia would eventually return for her. 3 4

Robin rescued the washed-ashore Ye Chen and brought him to her wooden shack. Though initially frightened and embarrassed by his behavior, she worried about him when he was left outside in a storm, brought him back to shelter, and gradually came to trust him as a companion. 1 3 6

Ye Chen’s protection made Luo Ji fearful of mistreating Robin openly. He later built Robin a two-story treehouse over three months so she could leave her aunt’s home; Robin happily accepted it, using her Devil Fruit to make an arm-ladder to reach it. After escaping Ohara, Robin survived alone while Marines pursued her. She took work and sought shelter wherever she could, but people who recognized her bounty sometimes betrayed her. At the Copper Gate Inn, a proprietress offered her bread in exchange for labor, then reported her; Robin fled without eating. Over the years she also sailed with pirates and associated with street thugs, remaining wary of those who might sell her out. She is emotionally resilient and stubbornly hopeful. Even while suffering abuse and poverty, she refuses to give up her belief that Olvia will return. Her reunion with Olvia reveals how deeply she longed for her mother despite having only faint memories of her. 3 10

Robin takes genuine pride in being Ohara’s youngest historian and in studying the Void Century. She initially cannot understand why the World Government would persecute archaeologists for seeking historical truth. 6 9

Years of pursuit make Robin cautious, resourceful, and slow to trust strangers, without extinguishing her humor or hope. She sees through Simon’s attempt to hand her to the Marines and waits for them to leave before escaping. After Saul warns that the World Government is targeting Ohara’s archaeologists, Robin reunites with Olvia shortly before CP9 and the Marines attack the island. Her declaration that she can read Poneglyphs exposes her as a target. 9 10 12

During the Buster Call, Robin is separated from Olvia again when Olvia chooses to remain with Ohara’s research materials. Robin escapes after Aokiji chooses not to capture her, giving Ye Chen her archaeologist’s medal and trusting his promise to find Olvia. 14 15

Wanted Survivor

Following Ohara’s destruction, Robin is identified as a wanted survivor with a bounty of 790,000 Beli. Spoon Aunt confirms to Olvia and Ye Chen that Robin has not yet been captured. Later accounts give her bounty as 79 million Beli. Robin recognizes Ye Chen on a wanted poster and asks Binchy to take her toward the East Blue. Robin and Ye Chen reunite at Rain Dinners after their long separation. She persuades him not to kill the defeated Crocodile. The pair later investigate an inscription in Alabasta’s desert ruins and travel to Alubarna seeking the genuine Poneglyph, but leave when Akainu arrives to demand Robin’s surrender. Robin joins Ye Chen’s Grim Reaper Pirates as their historian; a later bounty listing places her reward at 80 million Beli. She travels with the crew, explores ancient sites, and supports her companions in battle.
