Background / History

Madara fought during the Warring States era and helped Hashirama end that period of conflict and establish Konoha. His wartime reputation remained intimidating after the village’s founding: most villagers outside the Uchiha avoided him, and children commonly fled from his gaze 4 100 122.

As clan head, he worked toward integrating the Uchiha into Konoha rather than separating them from it. He recognized that their pride and centuries of clan loyalty made integration difficult. Dave’s developing relationship with Tsukimi gave him hope that the Senju and Uchiha could grow closer 9.

Izuna’s death at Tobirama’s hands remained his deepest personal wound. Even Hashirama generally avoided mentioning it, while Tobirama’s deliberate reminder involving the weapon that killed Izuna provoked Madara’s Sharingan and an abrupt change in atmosphere 12.

Madara also questioned whether founding a village had truly solved warfare. Although the Land of Fire had become peaceful, he feared that conflicts between clans would simply become larger wars between nations 23.

Appearance

Madara is repeatedly described as handsome, with an aloof expression and a muscular physique 4 19 159.

  • Eyes: Scarlet Sharingan; later, softly glowing purple Rinnegan 12 334 443.
  • Physique: Sculpted muscles, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist 159 481.
  • Chest marking: A face resembling Hashirama appears on his chest after the transplant 159.
  • Performance clothing: A custom suit for his early stage debut; later, a partly open white shirt and black stockings for the long-delayed dance contest 16 481.
  • Battlefield presentation: Applies two streaks of improvised camouflage before switching to close-quarters combat during a broadcast 372.

Personality

Madara’s cold manner conceals strong affection for those he accepts. Dave’s willingness to defend him against gossip brings out a protective, almost paternal side: he pays for the damage after Dave’s confrontation at a dango shop and carries the exhausted child through the village. He also explicitly refuses to involve Dave in his grudge against Tobirama 4 23.

His pride makes almost anything a competition, especially when Hashirama is involved. Dancing, games, racing, and combat all become opportunities to win or taunt his friend. He enjoys praise and fan attention, but reacts explosively to humiliation, online insults, and Tobirama’s theft of his virtual crops 40 60 61 124 277 386 431.

His devotion can become overprotective or reckless. He wants Izuna kept away from danger after his resurrection, yet subjects Obito to hazardous training in the belief that hardship will strengthen him. Grief over fallen Uchiha likewise drives retaliation against an entire village rather than only their killers 45 334 419 447.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Genjutsu

Madara uses the Sharingan for illusions, interrogation, and assistance with unfamiliar tasks 17 101 138.

  • Disables Tobirama’s monitoring shadow clone with genjutsu to take Dave out of the Senju compound 7.
  • Teaches Hashirama dance movements through an illusion 17.
  • Extracts information from a human trafficker, leaving the man answering in a blank state 101.
  • Frees his companions from the genjutsu-filled lake on the route to the moon 175.
  • Activates the Sharingan while aiming and testing an AK-47 138.

Susanoo

Madara manifests a blue chakra giant, progressing from a skeletal structure to larger combat forms 65 66.

  • Demonstrates a second form with a blue upper-body giant during his spar with Dave 65.
  • Escalates to his final form against Dave’s multiplying summons 66.
  • Combines Susanoo with Hashirama’s Thousand-Handed Great Buddha to create Majestic Attire: Senju 70.
  • Later equips the combined Buddha with a thousand swords and a hundred additional hands holding meteors 249.
  • Limitation against Dave: Magic Shroom can reproduce Susanoo-like opponents in overwhelming numbers. Madara abandons Susanoo rather than fight its multiplying copies 66 248.

Fire Release

Madara’s Fire Release includes large-scale attacks and precise everyday applications 47 65 82.

  • Majestic Destroyer Flame: Produces an immense wall of fire; used against Kakuzu’s water bullets and enemy forces 47 334.
  • Fire Dragon Flame Bullet: Launches a fire dragon over ten meters long during his fight with Dave 65.
  • Cigarette-Lighting Technique: Creates a small flame on his index finger 82.
  • Countered by Dave: Unusual plant creations can neutralize or redirect his fire attacks 248.

Wood Release

Madara acquires Wood Release after receiving Hashirama’s flesh 77.

  • Learns a simple technique directly from Hashirama and successfully creates a wooden prison around Tobirama 77.
  • Tobirama escapes the prison using Flying Thunder God 77.

Rinnegan

The Rinnegan grants Madara gravitational, resurrection, and spatial abilities demonstrated throughout the story 175 283 334 372.

  • Banshō Ten’in: Pulls opponents toward him 334.
  • Shinra Tensei: Repels enemies; also sends Black Zetsu flying when his concealed sacrifice requirement is exposed 175 334.
  • Tengai Shinsei: Summons enormous meteorites. He calls down five in the Olympics final and uses a second meteor against Ōnoki after the first is stopped 248 334.
  • Spatial attack: Sends a fired bullet through a black hole appearing in front of a fleeing enemy 372.
  • Outer Path: Rinne Rebirth: Restores ten people to life at the cost of his own rapidly failing body 283.
  • Absorption limitation: Dave’s unusual Wood Release cannot be absorbed during their Olympics match 248.
  • Reduced ocular power: Madara states that one Rinnegan is weaker than a pair, although still much stronger than his previous abilities 177.

Weapons and Close-Quarters Combat

Madara adapts readily to modern firearms and combines them with fast, lethal movement 138 372.

  • Uses armor-piercing sniper rounds to eliminate enemies at long range 372.
  • Switches to a pistol and dagger, moving through the forest too quickly for enemies to follow clearly 372.
  • Kills a fleeing opponent with a thrown dagger 372.
  • Eliminates a two-hundred-man force alone during the Amegakure battlefield broadcast 372.

Investigation

Madara solves a theft case by connecting evidence with earlier incidents rather than accepting Tobirama’s accusation against Izuna 170.

  • Questions the owner of the missing belongings.
  • Identifies Nine-Tails as the culprit.
  • Orders compensation and a three-day detention after confirming the theft 170.

  • Tajima and Huina — His parents. Their resurrection brings family reunion but also intense pressure on Madara and Izuna to marry and produce descendants 282 283 286.
  • Younger brothers — Madara has five younger brothers in total, including Izuna, Haoyue, Han, and Tian. Their return prompts an emotional reunion 283.
  • Indra — Ancestor of the Uchiha Clan; Madara accepts his decision to live in the Uchiha compound 179.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Dave’s Acceptance and the Uchiha’s Public Image

Dave wins Madara’s attention by praising his looks and choosing him over Hashirama. His defense of Madara against cruel gossip turns that playful preference into a genuine bond. Tobirama’s attempts to restrict their meetings fail when Madara secretly takes Dave out and proposes an engagement with Tsukimi 4 5 7.

Dave’s Uchiha Girl Group project gives Madara an unexpected passion for dancing. His performances transform him from an avoided wartime figure into a popular village personality. Daily contests with Hashirama become a local attraction and inspire villagers to settle grudges through dance battles 16 17 19 26.

Restoring Izuna

The possibility that Dave can resurrect Izuna gives Madara a new goal. He promises to search for anything that can increase Dave’s chakra, bringing back chakra-enhancing honey from the Kamizuru Clan during his travels 23 26.

Dave eventually revives Izuna with the Revival Radish, using blood preserved on Tobirama’s sword. Madara embraces his brother tearfully and takes him away to explain the years he missed. Afterwards, he refuses to risk Izuna on the tailed-beast capture mission and accepts responsibility for the One- through Four-Tails himself 37 45.

Black Zetsu and Kaguya

When Black Zetsu threatens Dave and Madara, Hashirama places Dave under Madara’s constant protection. Dave later reveals that Zetsu altered the Uchiha stone tablet, preventing Madara from following its manipulated guidance 54 77.

After awakening the Rinnegan, Madara participates in the lunar expedition to recover the Demonic Statue. Dave exposes that Zetsu’s original resurrection plan would consume its caster. A plant-created duplicate instead receives one of Madara’s Rinnegan and serves as Kaguya’s vessel; Kaguya subsequently restores the sacrificed eye 175 176 177.

Mentorship, Warfare, and the Olympics

Madara becomes the instructor of Dave and Tsukimi’s two-person squad. His first major spar with Dave reveals the difficulty of fighting endlessly multiplying plant summons, while a later rescue in Kirigakure introduces his combined Susanoo–Buddha technique with Hashirama 64 66 70.

During the First Shinobi World War, he kills three thousand Kirigakure fighters alone, contributing to the village’s surrender. He then heads toward the Sunagakure battlefield with Izuna after dismissing the troops he considers unnecessary 150.

By the Olympics, Madara is no longer clan leader and identifies Hashirama, Dave, and Izuna as the three people who matter most to him. His final against Dave escalates from Fire Release to meteorites, then to a joint battle with Hashirama. The encounter is commemorated with statues at the Valley of the End, and all three combatants require wheelchairs afterwards 243 248 249 250.

Family Reunion and Later Public Roles

Tobirama’s resurrection experiment returns Madara’s parents and other relatives. Madara uses Rinne Rebirth to restore ten people fully to life, nearly dying before Kaguya intervenes. His parents’ subsequent matchmaking campaign drives him to pay Hashirama to pose as a Senju girlfriend named “Zhumei” 282 283 286.

Despite retirement from clan leadership, he remains fiercely protective of Uchiha veterans. After Ōnoki kills five Uchiha ANBU members, Madara destroys the accompanying troops, threatens Iwagakure with two meteorites, and demands the highest burial honors and village-wide mourning 334.

His later public activities include a broadcast battlefield performance and service as ANBU’s spokesperson. Representing the Uchiha Arms Company, he announces that it will supply ANBU’s everyday weapons and presents recruits with demonstration equipment 372 390.

Obito, Space Travel, and Konoha Star

Madara’s instruction of Obito includes dangerous rides, an attempted enormous-rock carrying exercise, and a week alone in a forest. His later attempt to force a Mangekyō awakening leaves Obito critically ill, prompting a fight with Tobirama that destroys the hospital. Nevertheless, Dave eventually selects him again as Obito’s Sharingan teacher 419 447 597.

He also tests Orochiroku’s unpredictable shuttle with Dave and encounters an elderly man claiming to be Madara Uchiha. Their dispute becomes a Susanoo battle that destroys the cavern. On a later space journey, his furious use of Susanoo and a Gundam destroys Black Zetsu Two’s ship 409 455.

After moving to Uchiha Garden on Konoha Star, repeated Sharingan checks frustrate him at the grounds, building, elevator, and apartment. He retaliates against Kagami, who arranged the excessive security system 512.

Dancing & Gaming

  • Dance repertoire: Performs Windmills and Thomas Flares, learns new routines from Dave, and recruits Izuna to defeat Hashirama’s dance team 40.
  • Continuing hobby: Still takes over a bar stage with Dave in much later chapters 563.
  • Forum celebrity: Creates an account announcing “I, Madara Uchiha.” A nurse later recognizes him, praises his pole dance, and requests a selfie 60 124.
  • Competitive gaming: Plays Konoha Fight the Landlord, farming games, Shinobi World Alliance, and the Naruto mobile fighting game 60 61 88 277.
  • Team frustrations: Repeatedly struggles to compensate for Hashirama’s disastrous play, including matches where Hashirama finishes 0/49/3 and 0/21/1 343 431.
  • Recurring crop feud: Tobirama steals one hundred cabbages from his original farm and later one hundred rare premium crops in VR 61 431.
