Background / History

Mo Lu is the son of Mo Linglan and her husband. His parents died when he was nine, leaving him with little knowledge of their connection to Weisheng Tou. By Chapter 50, he knows their deaths were deliberately caused, but remains frustrated by how much his grandfather conceals about them 22 23 50.

As a gifted practitioner of the Mo Family’s Zhu You Technique, Mo Lu trained to commune with nature. Gifted children of the clan are first sent into the mountains to sense witch power through heaven and earth. After reaching adulthood, he chose a mountainside home because nature provides the best environment for his cultivation 17.

Mo Lu concealed his Omega differentiation so successfully that even the family elders believed he was a Super S-Rank Alpha. Initially, only Old Master Mo—who witnessed his differentiation—knew the truth. As the clan’s most gifted shamanic healer and new head, Mo Lu refused to let his secondary gender make him dependent on another person’s protection 3.

His early reputation rested on two widely discussed incidents: prolonging the old patriarch’s life and allegedly killing Old Master Lu with a curse. The latter accusation came from the Lu Family, and Mo Lu’s dismissive response helped make him feared throughout the Empire. Weisheng Tou later reveals that he, acting for the Empire, was the actual killer 1 23 30.

Appearance

Mo Lu has a slender build, fair skin, jet-black hair, and finely shaped features. His elaborate traditional clothing reinforces the wealth and authority of his position 2 3 8.

  • Eyes: Slightly upturned, peach-blossom-shaped eyes, normally dark; they turn emerald or icy green when he uses witchcraft 2 3.
  • Facial features: A fine, straight nose, pale thin lips, long dark lashes, and a tiny crimson mole at the corner of one eye 3 32.
  • Magical markings: Crimson patterns spread across his face during certain techniques, appearing to rise through his blood vessels 3 38.
  • Clothing: Black brocade gowns with silver embroidery, navy cross-collared robes, and custom black boots decorated with dragon motifs 2 8.
  • Accessories: A white jade thumb ring, various pendant or tassel earrings, and gold-rimmed half-frame glasses 1 8 17 25.

Personality

Mo Lu is cold, proud, and accustomed to unquestioned authority. He dislikes people who presume to know better than him and demands honesty from those serving at his side. His need for control extends beyond his household: being denied information about his parents and current threats angers him as much as the danger itself 3 8 50.

His reserve does not erase his medical ethics. He continues treating Weisheng Tou despite their overwhelming compatibility, and saves Ye Liang after their personal relationship has ended. He explicitly rejects the idea that Alpha–Omega roles should determine his decisions or justify someone else controlling him 6 34 39.

Mo Lu can also be ruthless. He coerces hostile visitors, threatens to expose the Lu Family’s wrongdoing, and refuses to spare Mo Runyan merely because they are related if Runyan attacks him. His compassion toward patients coexists with a fierce insistence on protecting his authority and those in his care 26 27 50.

His attachment to Weisheng Tou develops through actions before words. He repeatedly describes their relationship as practical, yet keeps Tou’s scent, misses his presence, protects him, and exhausts himself healing his wounds. By Chapter 41, he admits that he wants Tou nearby while still refusing his confession of love 21 25 28 40 41.

Abilities & Skills

Zhu You Technique and Nature Communion

Mo Lu practices the Mo Family’s inherited Zhu You Technique, drawing on communication with nature, heaven, and earth. This differs from Federation witchcraft, which communes with the dead 17 25.

  • Cultivation: Absorbs witch power while meditating in natural surroundings 17.
  • Spiritual perception: Senses unfamiliar magical workings inside Weisheng Tou’s body 4.
  • Discipline requirement: Emotional distraction disrupts his cultivation and causes his first cultivation injury in nearly thirteen years 17.
  • Knowledge boundary: He does not practice Federation witchcraft and must consult texts to investigate its techniques 25.

Shamanic Healing

Mo Lu uses incantations, witch power, and Healing Talismans rather than relying solely on conventional medicine 3 5 6.

  • Reduces inscribed paper talismans to ash and applies them to wounds; the treatment heals rapidly but can be intensely painful 5 6.
  • Uses green light and talismans to stop bleeding, examine internal injuries, and treat severe trauma 38.
  • Stabilizes Ye Liang’s broken ribs, damaged organs, and brain injury after a near-fatal beating 38 39.
  • Cannot repair Ye Liang’s nerve damage; Ye Liang survives but remains paralyzed 39.
  • Expending large amounts of witch power leaves Mo Lu exhausted and can cause him to collapse 41.
  • Creates a green healing seal over Weisheng Tou’s heart, replacing the appearance of the earlier black curse with an intricate sigil containing his name 48.

Curse Techniques and Subordinate Marks

Mo Lu places personal Curse Seals on his subordinates to enforce loyalty. Weisheng Tou becomes his second marked subordinate after Ye Liang 4.

  • Betrayal punishment: Tou’s original mark is designed to kill him if he harbors thoughts of betraying Mo Lu 4.
  • Coercion: Forces Ye Liang to his knees and compels obedience through curse power 16 27.
  • Physical restraint: Immobilizes Lu Yunsheng, silences his followers, and forces him into a kowtow 26 27.
  • Release: Removes Ye Liang’s arm seal when dismissing him from service 34.
  • Specialized knowledge: Mo Lu and Old Master Mo are the only clan members identified as knowing an offensive technique recorded in Binding Evil 16.

Madness and Pheromone Suppression

Mo Lu can reach Weisheng Tou when conventional treatments have failed, initially calming him with an emerald-eyed gaze 2.

  • Uses incantations and curse power to suppress Tou’s violent episodes 3 25 39.
  • Applies a Blocking Seal and talisman remedies that suppress pheromones more effectively than ordinary blocking patches 5 6.
  • Schedules suppression of Tou’s abdominal curse every Saturday 8 24 25.
  • Teaches Tou the Heart-Clearing Mantra and leaves calming witch power between his brows so he can use it himself 24.
  • Suppresses Tou’s rut once he has sufficient witch power available 44 45.
  • Limit: The Blocking Seal stops unconscious pheromone release, not deliberate use of pheromones to overpower others 11.
  • Vulnerability: Tou’s pheromones can affect Mo Lu so strongly that he struggles to release his own power 3.

Magical Defense and Lightning

Mo Lu defends himself against a black-mist necromantic attack even while his witch power is weakened 46.

  • Raises floating golden Curse Seals to resist the mist 46.
  • Uses the Zhu You Technique to summon blue lightning and disperse the attack 46.
  • Receives additional protection from Old Master Mo’s Protective Mantra 46.
  • Recognizes the attack as powerful necromancy and uses its resemblance to Tou’s curse to guide further investigation 46 47 50.

Perception, Mantras, and Incense Arts

Mo Lu combines magical perception with a Witch Doctor’s keen sense of smell 24.

  • Detects that Tou has killed someone despite his changed clothes and removal of the obvious blood scent 24.
  • Senses sincerity in Tou’s promise not to betray him, though he remains uncertain about Tou’s competing displays of vulnerability and violence 14 39.
  • Uses the Heart-Clearing Mantra to settle himself and a Sleep Mantra to induce sleep 14.
  • Condenses Tou’s pheromones into an incense cone, preserving their soothing scent without requiring his constant presence 28.
  • Limit: His power detects no lie when Tou claims to have lost control while killing Lu Sa; the explanation does not resolve Mo Lu’s doubts about his behavior 27.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • White jade thumb ring — A frequently worn accessory that he rubs or turns while thinking and issuing commands 1 8 26.
  • Medicine chest and Healing Talismans — Supplies for wound treatment, pheromone suppression, and emergency care 5 6 38.
  • Ancient Mo Family texts — Consulted to investigate unfamiliar curses and inherited techniques 4 7.
  • Federation Witchcraft — The Mo Family’s only copy; Mo Lu searches it for a match to Tou’s abdominal curse 25.
  • Sandalwood and agarwood incense — Used in his rooms and workspaces; Tou’s rose-liquor scent gradually becomes more comforting than his usual sandalwood 2 25 28.
  • Rose-liquor incense cone — Created from Tou’s pheromones during a kiss 28.
  • Oath Stone — Placed around his neck by Old Master Mo after recording Tou’s oath never to hurt him. It allows Mo Lu to learn of the promise and detect a change in Tou’s intentions 42.
  • Hidden Splendor Pool — His private hot spring, equipped with a healing curse that can aid Tou’s injuries 2 40.

Relationships

  • Weisheng Tou — Subordinate, research subject, and bed partner with 100 percent pheromone compatibility. Tou has loved him for fourteen years, but Mo Lu does not remember meeting him before. Their bond develops from curse-based control into trust and protective affection, while Tou repeatedly crosses Mo Lu’s boundaries 3 8 14 18 33 39 41 48.
  • Old Master Mo — Grandfather, fellow Witch Doctor, and the person initially entrusted with the truth of Mo Lu’s Omega status. He presses Mo Lu to find a partner, protects him with magic, and withholds information about his parents and Tou’s curse 3 9 22 42 50.
  • Ye Liang — Childhood companion, bodyguard, steward, and first marked subordinate. Mo Lu rejects his romantic feelings and expels him for targeting Tou, but later saves his life out of affection and medical duty 2 4 7 34 39.
  • Mo Linglan and her husband — Late parents, who died when Mo Lu was nine. They knew and liked Tou, a connection Mo Lu learns about from his grandfather 22.
  • Mo Runyan — Adopted older brother, adopted by Mo Lu’s parents. Mo Lu suspects his resentment and concealed Federation witchcraft; he declares that family ties will not protect Runyan if he attacks 21 23 50.
  • Mo Yan — Elder family associate who reports on the Lu estate fire and escorts Ye Liang away after his dismissal 34.
  • Lu Yunsheng — Hostile Lu Family patriarch who accuses the Mo Family of killing his son. Mo Lu protects Tou from his demand for revenge and forces him to submit 25 26 27.
  • Ye Song — Ye Liang’s father. Mo Lu rejects his pleas for further treatment and ends the families’ ties over the Ye Family’s attempts to kill Tou 40.
