Background / History

Ji Xie belongs to the world of the Weird. His exceptional abilities allow him to notice abnormalities in the system and attempt to infiltrate it. That attempt coincides with Li Yuanqing and Song Zhi importing their son’s data into the system. Ji Xie’s information becomes intertwined with Li Xian’s, affecting Li Xian’s skill and unexpectedly placing Ji Xie in his first instance, Stone River Village 386.

Initially unaware of the full cause of their meeting, Ji Xie searches for an unknown location he calls the Source Instance. He senses that it exists and suspects it is connected to the fundamental power linking all instances. Li Xian’s unusually authoritative skill appears to offer a possible route inside 122.

Appearance

  • Human form: Tall and strikingly handsome, with beautiful eyes, upturned lips, and long legs. Li Xian can recognize him despite an altered appearance at Mingyan University 118 132 237.
  • Compact disguise: A small, translucent purple tentacle that can hide in Li Xian’s pocket or cling to his shoulder. Ji Xie claims to have designed it around human aesthetic preferences 121 124.
  • Manifested tentacles: Black-purple tentacles appear when he threatens intruders in the Toy Factory instance; a pale-purple version serves as his “toy” disguise 186 187.
  • Instance disguises: Appears as a formally dressed teacher at Mingyan University and a handsome, friendly older boy in the Toy Factory town 132 185.
  • Illusory appearance: The ship instance’s distorted perception makes him appear fish-headed, with a human body and dangling organs. This is an illusion, not a revealed natural form 257 259.

Personality

Ji Xie initially treats humans with arrogance and emotional distance. When Li Xian is severely wounded, he offers to nullify their bond so that Li Xian can die quickly, presenting this as a considerate solution. His early instinct is to solve danger through violence rather than account for human limitations 22 100.

He enjoys teasing, intimidation, and theatrical cruelty. On Death Train, he turns rock-paper-scissors into a wager involving mutilation and helps frighten a childlike passenger into opening the next carriage. He also deliberately embarrasses Li Xian through exaggerated affection in front of other players 113 114 186.

His attachment to Li Xian gradually changes his behavior. He becomes attentive to injuries, exhaustion, insomnia, and emotional distress, although he often disguises concern with sarcasm. By the time Li Xian confides his past, Ji Xie can listen quietly and provide comfort without demanding explanations 105 178 195 197.

His protectiveness can become possessive or controlling. He resents Deng Hanyu’s attention, reacts jealously when Li Xian praises Lin Shiming, and conceals information that he thinks will hurt or frighten Li Xian. Their relationship repeatedly exposes a conflict between his desire to protect Li Xian and Li Xian’s right to make his own decisions 123 145 240 246.

After their reunion, Ji Xie’s strongest interests center on Li Xian’s life rather than conventional entertainment. He studies childhood photographs, explores household keepsakes, and wants to visit the places where Li Xian grew up 387 388.

Health and Healing

  • Helps determine that the system blocks the Veil’s function except under its activation conditions 177.

  • Explains that the system can build NPCs from real people’s data, with copied personalities and instance-adapted memories 187.
  • Limit: He cannot identify anything special about the Veil while its function is blocked 177.

Memory Preservation

  • Preserves all his memories through the system’s collapse by expending considerable power 387.
  • Uses the faint connection remaining in the old Marriage Certificate to locate Li Xian in the human world 387.
  • Cost: The power expenditure delays his return; his precise remaining strength is not stated 386 387.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Stone River Village

Li Xian uses his red Marriage Certificate after Ji Xie removes his bridal makeup and discovers that he is male. The resulting bond constrains Ji Xie, links their health, and forces him to remain in the instance. Ji Xie later tries unsuccessfully to persuade the wounded Li Xian to dissolve it 5 22.

During the final river crossing, a boy pushes Li Xian into Ji Xie’s arms. Ji Xie could have avoided the encounter but hesitates; their contact triggers a hidden condition extending the bond through the next instance 29.

Asylum and Death Train

Ji Xie assists Li Xian in the asylum by anticipating his need for an employee ID. His interference in a fight also inadvertently helps Cheng Xin survive longer than expected 78 123.

On Death Train, Li Xian promises to warn him before attempting another suicidal clearing strategy. Ji Xie protects his wounded hand, rescues him from a pursuing passenger, and cooperates with him to force open a carriage through a rigged, threatening game. Afterward, he accompanies Li Xian into the Player Center in concealed tentacle form 95 105 108 113 114 120 121.

Mingyan University

Disguised as a teacher, Ji Xie maintains private contact with Li Xian through attendance notes and office meetings. He dismisses a class early during the Green-Dressed Girl’s attempt to trick Li Xian, provides cake and clothing, and obtains Teacher Shang’s contact information 132 133 141 152.

His jealousy toward Deng Hanyu becomes increasingly obvious. Despite this, he supports Li Xian’s investigation, participates in an intimate performance intended for Deng to witness, and stays with Li Xian during a dangerous overnight hiding period 143 145 149 153.

Toy Factory and Rejection

Ji Xie poses as a town resident before accompanying Li Xian as a “toy.” He explains how the simulated parents may reproduce real people and listens as Li Xian reveals his parents’ deaths and the suicide that preceded his entry into the instances 185 187 195 197.

He secretly disputes Li Yuanqing’s plan for Li Xian to face the parent-child sacrifice. Ji Xie later admits that he intended to kill the simulated parents after the children escaped, hoping to spare Li Xian the truth 229 240.

When Ji Xie asks permission to pursue him romantically, Li Xian refuses and tears his certificate. Li Xian subsequently explains that he wants to protect Ji Xie from the danger surrounding his agreement with the system, but Ji Xie refuses to accept separation 240 241.

Ship Instance and Mutual Confession

With Li Xian’s memories reverted to high school and his items and skills disabled, Ji Xie becomes his principal protector. He claims they are lovers, conceals frightening information, and helps them recognize one another despite the ship’s illusions 243 250 257.

Ke Yi’s revelation of his tentacles does not turn Li Xian against him. Instead, Li Xian seeks him out and refuses to let him face the approaching danger alone 295.

After the instance, Li Xian recognizes his own feelings, agrees that Ji Xie can stay with him, and replaces the damaged Marriage Certificate. He explicitly confesses his love in their next conversation 300 301.

Final Conflict with the System

Ji Xie supports Li Xian through the Honey Shadow’s emotional influence and protects him in the mirror maze. Li Xian publicly introduces him to the guild as his boyfriend before their final confrontation with the system 345 369 371.

The two face the system together as Li Xian begins the data overwrite. The system admits that its hostility arose from viewing both of them as threats 384.

Life in the Human World

Following the system’s collapse, Ji Xie spends considerable power preserving his memories and uses their old certificate to track Li Xian down. They reunite after Li Xian has waited a month 386 387.

Ji Xie adapts to ordinary life, studies Li Xian’s childhood album, and suggests filling its remaining pages together. Their first described human-world date takes them to Li Xian’s high school, where Li Xian again introduces him as his boyfriend. Ji Xie later receives an approved identity card 387 388 391.
