Background / History
House Boreas and the New Tutors
Eris grows up in Roa as Philip and Hilda’s daughter and Sauros’s granddaughter. Her family belongs to House Boreas, one of the Asura Kingdom’s four major Greyrat houses, responsible for the Fittoa Territory and the kingdom’s eastern defenses. Ghislaine serves as her bodyguard and swordsmanship instructor 33 40.
Her first meeting with Rudeus and Radeus is violent. She rejects Rudeus as a tutor because he is younger than her, slaps him, and attacks Radeus when he laughs. When Radeus restrains her, she resorts to kicking and biting; she later beats Rudeus after he retaliates against another slap 35 36.
A staged kidnapping intended to encourage her education becomes a genuine abduction. After a kidnapper brutally beats her, Rudeus heals her and secures her agreement to three conditions before helping her escape. She is seized again in town before the rescue is completed 37 38 39.
Afterward, Eris agrees to study magic properly if Radeus also becomes her tutor. At Rudeus’s insistence, Sauros makes her ask the brothers herself rather than arranging everything on her behalf 39 40 41.
Lessons and Birthday Celebration
Eris takes readily to sword practice but resists reading, writing, and arithmetic. Ghislaine persuades her to attend lessons by describing the hardships she suffered because of illiteracy, while Radeus introduces addition and multiplication tables 41 44.
Her birthday dance proves more difficult than swordsmanship. She repeatedly abandons practice because she fears embarrassing Sauros. Radeus identifies that her sword-training footwork makes her move ahead of the music, and Rudeus uses that familiar footwork to guide her through a successful rehearsal. At the actual celebration, however, she accelerates beyond her partner’s ability to follow and throws him off balance 50 51.
Teleportation and the Demon Continent
The Teleportation Incident separates Eris from her family and Ghislaine. She travels across the Demon Continent with Rudeus and Rujierd before reuniting with Radeus. Their goal becomes returning to the Central Continent and finding their missing families 69 80 81.
Although outwardly excited by the adventure, Eris conceals her anxiety about her parents and grandfather to avoid burdening Rudeus. Radeus later reassures her that they are alive. She also joins the brothers in promising to help repair the Superd Race’s reputation 81 85 95.
During the journey, she fights monsters regularly and helps defeat the A-rank Red-Eating Great Serpent. After her swordsmanship stalls, Radeus lends her a miniature Mahoraga and uses a sparring session to guide her breakthrough into a Magic Sword Saint 105 131 132.
The Great Forest
In the Dedoldia village, Eris befriends Minitona and Terusena and teaches them human speech. When Gyes condemns his younger sister Ghislaine for leaving the tribe, Eris tearfully defends her teacher. Together with Radeus and Rudeus, she helps persuade him to reconsider his judgment 142.
Before departing, she accepts Gyes’s request to see Ghislaine’s swordsmanship. Eris wins immediately with the Sword of Light, stopping her blade against his cheek, and emphasizes that Ghislaine is much stronger than she is 148.
Begaritt and the Journey Home
In Shirone, the brothers’ reunion with Lilia and Aisha brings Eris’s own fears about returning home to the surface. Rujierd encourages her to accept the place waiting for her within their family circle. When Radeus and Rudeus subsequently decide to help Paul on the Begaritt Continent, she refuses to remain behind, insisting that their team must stay together 170 172.
Inside the Teleportation Labyrinth, Eris is cornered by monsters and nearly killed. Rudeus arrives in Mana Armor, blocks the fatal attack, and clears the monsters. After recovering, she eagerly prepares to return to the labyrinth; she later volunteers to stand with Paul rather than leave the brothers to fight alone 179 182 190.
Following the labyrinth expedition, Rudeus arranges to escort her back to the Asura Kingdom with Radeus and Rujierd. Their route takes them through the Red Dragon Mountains, where they encounter Orsted and Nanahoshi. Before the battle begins, Eris and Rujierd escort Nanahoshi away on Leo. Eris later watches through a magic item and becomes alarmed when its image cuts out as Orsted draws the Godblade 194 198 210.
Appearance
- Hair: Vivid flame-red hair, later described as long enough to whip around her during combat 35 132.
- Expression: Sharp eyes and a displeased expression distinguish her first appearance despite her refined noble clothing 35.
- Everyday noble attire: Wears a white top with black accents, a brownish knee-length skirt, and white thigh-high stockings during the tutoring period 41.
- Outing attire: A red princess dress, matching hat, and a red rose on the right side of her chest 48.
- Birthday attire: A white formal dress with her hair gathered into a single ponytail 50.
- Flame manifestation: During her Magic Sword Saint breakthrough, fire envelops her blade and body, and red light burns in her eyes 132.
Personality
Eris initially expresses pride and frustration through violence. She resents being taught by younger children and reacts aggressively to perceived disrespect. Her enthusiasm for combat extends to sparring: she refuses Rudeus’s request to hold back, declaring that she gives every opponent her full effort 35 47.
Her dedication to swordsmanship contrasts sharply with her impatience toward academic lessons. She practices before dawn and becomes distressed when her improvement stalls, particularly because the brothers continue to outpace her despite appearing less diligent 44 48 131.
Beneath her forceful exterior, Eris is affectionate and protective. She is unusually gentle around Ghislaine, cherishes gifts from Radeus, and openly cries when defending her teacher or parting from her Beastfolk friends. She hides her homesickness to avoid troubling her companions, but firmly refuses to abandon them when they face danger 42 81 86 142 148 172.
Abilities & Skills
Sword God Style
Eris’s principal discipline is the Sword God Style, taught by Ghislaine. Her early fighting emphasizes ferocious attacks and heavy blows; continued practice visibly improves her strength and precision 43 47 68.
- Defeats Rudeus with a single wooden-sword strike during their first supervised spar 41.
- Masters the Sword of Light, using it to defeat Gyes before he can respond 148.
- Cannot overcome every opponent through speed alone: even after becoming a Magic Sword Saint, she has not defeated Rujierd 149.
Radeus’s Footwork and Swordplay
Eris adopts Radeus’s agile, weaving movements alongside her original forceful attacks 68 87.
- Evades a surrounding monster pack while killing its members one by one 87.
- Has learned approximately thirty to forty percent of Radeus’s weaving style by the time he demonstrates his newly developed Sword Dance 87.
- Eagerly accepts his offer to teach Sword Dance; the demonstrated nine consecutive Swords of Light belong to Radeus, not to her documented repertoire 87.
Fire Magic and Flame Swordsmanship
Rudeus teaches Eris the incantation for Fireball. During her later breakthrough, memories of that spell combine with her sword training as Mahoraga’s adaptation supports her development 44 132.
- Fireball: Successfully produces a ball of flame, though her first casting is launched accidentally 44.
- Flame-covered blade: Envelops her sword in near-incandescent golden-red fire 132.
- Ranged fiery slash: Releases a flame attack several meters long with a sword swing 132.
- Environmental heat: Her breakthrough heats the surrounding air and makes nearby sand glow red 132.
Combat Judgment
- Recognizes that the Red-Eating Great Serpent’s armored scales resist her blade and adjusts her aim toward their gaps 105.
- Blocks its tail attack, recovers in midair, and lands steadily after being knocked away 105.
- Bisects the serpent once Rujierd immobilizes it; Rudeus delivers the finishing head shot 105.
- Scouts a suspected kidnappers’ warehouse and reports the captive’s position and the number of people inside 151.
Languages and Etiquette
- Uses formal noble greetings and curtsies when thanking hosts or greeting Paul 86 152.
- Teaches Minitona and Terusena basic human speech through repetition and gestures 142.
- Cannot understand the Migurd villagers’ Demon God Language during their farewell 86.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Julian-forged sword — A valuable, exceptionally sturdy blade given to the group by Rowin and passed to Eris by Radeus. It has a slight curve, measures approximately sixty centimeters, and has no special abilities 86.
- Spare greatsword — An inexpensive sword supplied by Radeus before they reach the Migurd village. Eris insists on keeping it even after receiving the better weapon; Radeus stores it for her 82 86.
- Magic staff — A gift from Rudeus, following his teacher’s custom of presenting staffs to students 52.
- Exorcism Ring — A gold tribal heirloom given to her by Ghislaine. It is said to prevent vicious wolves from attacking its wearer at night; Gyes later recognizes it 52 142.
- Borrowed miniature Mahoraga and Dharma Wheel — Supplied by Radeus to overcome her training plateau. The miniature enters her shadow, while its wheel accelerates adaptation, muscle memory, and reflex development during their spar 131 132.
Relationships
- Ghislaine — First swordsmanship teacher, bodyguard, and the person Eris says she respects most. Eris regards her as a hero who always comes when called 33 80 142.
- Radeus Greyrat — Tutor, second swordsmanship teacher, and teammate. Eris admires his techniques and treasures even the inexpensive sword he gives her 39 80 86.
- Rudeus Greyrat — Tutor and teammate. Their hostile first meeting develops into trust; she calls for him when cornered in the labyrinth, and he saves her from a fatal attack 35 39 179.
- Rujierd — Protector, training partner, and teammate. He supports her sword practice and helps her confront her fears about returning to her family 110 131 170.
- Philip and Hilda — Parents from whom she is separated by the Teleportation Incident. Hilda describes her as fiercer in appearance than in temperament and especially afraid of being alone 95 100.
- Sauros Boreas Greyrat — Grandfather. Her fear of embarrassing him drives her reluctance to practice the birthday dance 40 50.
- Aisha Greyrat — A younger-sister figure. Aisha calls her “Big sister Eris” and runs to embrace her when they reunite in Shirone 164 165.
- Minitona and Terusena — Close friends and language pupils in the Great Forest. Their farewell is tearful, and Eris promises to visit again 142 148.
- Gyes — Ghislaine’s older brother. Their confrontation over his treatment of Ghislaine leads to reconciliation and a farewell duel 142 148.
- Sylphie — Quickly befriends Eris after exchanging hesitant greetings and compliments 67.
