Background / History

Previous Worlds and the Fake Young Master

Xie Ji is an experienced quick-transmigration tasker who has completed similar missions across multiple small worlds. He boasts that his previous romantic conquests include ghosts. In one earlier world, he lived as a young Daoist priest and devoted his lifetime to supernatural arts 1 2 44.

His current identity is the Xie family's fake young master, whose original owner occupied the place belonging to Lu Xunji. The original owner's relationship with the Xie parents deteriorated after the real young master's return, and he was forced onto a wealthy-family variety show as Lu Xunji's foil. The original plot had him repeatedly opposing Lu Xunji and being brutalized by four men who adored Lu Xunji 1 2.

Xie Ji initially refuses to read the plot, confidently assuming that his mission involves winning over a woman. He later describes his actual mission as protecting Lu Xunji from being harmed by others 1 124.

Island Variety Show and Business

On the two-month island show, Xie Ji takes responsibility for livestock. He expands the farm, buys chickens and ducks, and helps develop the group's living arrangements. His concern for animals extends to the puppies A-Gang and A-Qiang, whom he worries about even while being cared for himself 3 9 35 48.

His money-making ventures include fortune-telling and selling system-supplied cosmetic pills. One selling trip leaves him with 300,000 in earnings, but his stall also attracts enforcement action: he and Lu Xunji must write self-criticisms and pay a 5,000 fine. Shang Yan subsequently investigates the products' safety and becomes his business partner 43 45 47 66.

Divine Sense Fruit Crisis

Xie Ji eats his first Divine Sense Fruit before Little Black can explain how to use it safely. Little Black warns that its side effects can manifest as unpredictable fatal accidents 44.

The resulting karmic backlash causes a severe fever. Little Black attempts to burn away the residual karma by raising his temperature, admitting that the intervention gambles with Xie Ji's life. Lu Xunji arranges emergency transport, and Xie Ji eventually awakens aboard a speedboat 56 58.

Military Academy Special Examination

Initially without a school to attend, Xie Ji insists that he will enter the Imperial Military Academy. He takes its dangerous special examination despite his friends' objections, bringing an assortment of divination tools that the examiner confiscates before the written test 96 103.

During the practical assessment, he uses divination to locate passes while Lu Xunji handles most direct combat. When Lu Xunji is badly wounded, Xie Ji carries their supplies, treats his arm, and ultimately carries him out of the examination. Xie Ji remains unconscious for seven days afterward 105 109 113.

He passes and receives a special academy badge. A later account identifies him as one of only three people to pass the special examination in the academy's history of more than a century. He enrolls as a first-year individual combat student 122 134 148.

Campus Life and Relationship with Lu Xunji

Xie Ji repeatedly calls himself straight and initially frames his closeness with Lu Xunji as brotherhood or friendship. Over time, he accepts kissing and embraces, becomes troubled by whether Lu Xunji truly likes him, and asks what their relationship means 17 72 78 106 109.

After they become intimate, Xie Ji apologizes for avoiding the consequences of their relationship. Lu Xunji confesses his love, but Xie Ji asks for time, partly because his inability to read Lu Xunji's destiny makes him uneasy 123 124.

During a temporary transformation into a kitten, Xie Ji explores campus and is proclaimed leader of its stray cats by Big Orange. He later returns to attending classes and studies the notes Jin Li copied during his absence 130 131 133 134.

Lu Xunji secures a noble title for him after taking the commander's assessment and meeting the imperial family. The detailed account places the intended presentation on Lu Xunji's own birthday. Hearing the hurt behind Lu Xunji's confrontation, Xie Ji realizes that he may truly have fallen in love with him 138.

War Deployment and Black Hole Rescue

When Shen Ting requests a fortune reading before deployment, Xie Ji sees signs of an early death. Further readings reveal the same disastrous fissure in the fate charts of everyone he knows, apart from his own and Lu Xunji's unreadable charts. He concludes that the danger may be a world-destroying catastrophe rather than ordinary battlefield risk 144 146.

Although he initially agrees not to accompany Lu Xunji, Xie Ji later receives official deployment orders. At the front, he helps distribute food, repair mecha shells, and salvage damaged equipment. He also gives Ji Shi a protective talisman 147 148 149.

The talisman transmits Ji Shi's desperate report from the black hole. Xie Ji demands a combat mecha to rescue him, but insists that Lu Xunji remain behind because the Second War Zone depends on his command 151.

Xie Ji eventually reaches the black hole's central tree with Mu Yao and Zhuang Huan, guiding their damaged mecha with an astrolabe. They recover Ji Shi alive from a safety capsule. Mu Yao, however, has suffered a fatal wound, and Xie Ji's medicine cannot stop his bleeding 154.

Appearance

Xie Ji is strikingly beautiful, with golden hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and a slender but healthy build 26 48 87 91.

Personality

Xie Ji is talkative, irreverent, and exceptionally skilled at provoking people. He plays the fool, answers flirtation with absurd remarks, and turns embarrassing situations into jokes. Lu Xunji recognizes early that his apparent foolishness conceals deliberate behavior 7 18 78.

He openly loves money and often attaches a price to his help. Nevertheless, his generosity is not merely transactional: he goes into a muddy paddy to help Ji Shi without negotiating payment and values Ji Shi's freely offered affection rather than dismissing it as something obtained too easily 25 35 36 37.

His social confidence contrasts with his uncertainty about romance. He firmly rejects Ji Shi and Mu Yao while preserving their friendships, yet takes much longer to acknowledge his own attachment to Lu Xunji 26 123 138.

Xie Ji is compassionate without being endlessly compliant. He objects strongly to Lu Xunji's self-harm, rejects the idea that illness excuses every hurtful action, and tells him not to reduce himself to an object for someone else's use. His growing attachment to the world's inhabitants eventually erodes his sense that they are merely characters in a mission 91 110 125 126 147.
