Background
Taotie awakened within the Fierce Beast Clan as a transmigrator who retained knowledge of the Primordial World's original future. He believed that remaining with the fierce beasts would end with his sealing in the Kunlun Forbidden Land during the Fierce Beast Calamity. 20
At his awakening, the Supreme Fierce Beast System bound itself to him. It promised to guide him to the Primordial Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm and make him master of the Primordial World, fueling his belief that he was a chosen “child of destiny.” 20
Personality
Taotie is intensely self-preserving. He recognized the danger of the Fierce Beasts' indiscriminate slaughter and Shen Ni's increasingly destructive ambitions, then abandoned the clan rather than share its expected downfall. 21 22
He is also opportunistic and greedy. Although he warned Shen Ni against provoking the Primordial World's major clans, his attention immediately turned to stealing the World-Extinguishing Millstone once he learned it was in Shen Ni's possession. 21 His desire for the millstone, combined with the system's reward of the Chaos Bell, drove him to kill his wounded emperor and attempt a theft under Hongjun's watch. 23 26
Abilities & Skills
Supreme Fierce Beast System
A system bound within Taotie's body that assigns missions and supplies rewards or temporary power boosts. Its existence makes Taotie valuable to Shichen and Hongjun as a potential source of solutions to Chaos World's origin exhaustion. 20 22 28
- Promised to elevate Taotie to the Primordial Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm and make him master of the Primordial World. 20
- Issued a mission to kill Shen Ni and become the next Fierce Beast Emperor, offering the Chaos Bell as a reward. 23
- Provided a temporary Primordial Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal experience card to enable Taotie's assassination of Shen Ni. 26
- Failed to respond when Taotie begged for help against Hongjun. 26
- Secretly intended to fabricate a counterfeit Chaos Bell because it could not seize Taiyi's genuine treasure. 23
Assassination and Opportunism
Taotie waited in hiding while the coalition and Shen Ni fought, then used the brief opening created by Shen Ni's defeat to strike. 25 26
- Killed the mortally wounded Shen Ni by piercing his chest with a claw. 26
- Concealed himself from both the Fierce Beast army and the battlefield until a favorable opportunity emerged. 24 26
- Attempted to seize the restrained World-Extinguishing Millstone immediately after claiming the system reward. 26
Chaos Bell
Taotie received a system-issued Chaos Bell after killing Shen Ni. 26
- Its bell toll loosened a fraction of Hongjun's immobilization technique, allowing Taotie to move briefly. 26
- It could not overcome Hongjun's subsequent suppression by the Pseudo-Creation Jade Disk. 26
- Hongjun recognized that the authentic Chaos Bell should have remained beside the Little Golden Crow on the Sun Star, heightening his suspicion of Taotie's system. 26
Equipment / Items
- Supreme Fierce Beast System — bound within Taotie; its cross-world nature and ability to obtain origin energy became the reason Shichen and Pangu preserved him. 28
- Primordial Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal experience card — a one-use, quarter-hour power increase provided for the assassination of Shen Ni. 26
- Chaos Bell — system reward received after Shen Ni's death; later used in an unsuccessful attempt to escape Hongjun and take the World-Extinguishing Millstone. 26
Relationships
- Shen Ni — Emperor of the Fierce Beast Clan and Taotie's former leader. Taotie feared Shen Ni's rise, defected from his cause, and ultimately killed him to complete a system mission. 21 22 26
- Hongjun — Captor and investigator. Hongjun infiltrated the Dragon Clan under Luo Hou's identity, marked Taotie without his notice, captured him after Shen Ni's death, and searched his memories. 22 26 28
- Shichen — Identified Taotie as an otherworldly anomaly and instructed Hongjun not to kill him because of the object within his body. 22
- Pangu — Examined Taotie with curiosity after Hongjun brought him before Shichen and Pangu in the Time Domain. 28
- Zulong and Zhulong — Dragon Clan leaders who received Taotie's intelligence on Shen Ni's impending breakthrough and the Fierce Beast threat. 22
- Supreme Fierce Beast System — Taotie's source of missions and rewards, but not a reliable ally; it abandoned him when Hongjun captured him. 20 23 26
Story Role / Major Arcs
Fierce Beast Calamity
Taotie emerged as one of the Four Great Fierce Beasts under Shen Ni's command, but his transmigrator knowledge made him wary of the clan's destined destruction. 20 He accepted Shen Ni's breakthrough resources while warning that excessive slaughter would bring Heavenly Dao's hostility and provoke the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans. 21
Fearing that Shen Ni's breakthrough would make escape impossible, Taotie secretly left the Far West and delivered intelligence to the Dragon Clan. Hongjun, masquerading as Luo Hou, used this meeting to begin directing the three innate clans against Shen Ni. 22
When the war began, Taotie avoided the front lines and waited for Shen Ni to be defeated. 24 25 The system then supplied a temporary cultivation boost, allowing him to kill Shen Ni himself and claim the mission reward. 26
Capture and the System's Exposure
After killing Shen Ni, Taotie attempted to steal the World-Extinguishing Millstone. Hongjun immobilized him, saw through his supposed meeting with “Luo Hou,” revealed his real identity, and took the millstone before preserving Taotie on Shichen's instructions. 26
Hongjun later searched Taotie's memories, discovering the original future of the Primordial World and confirming that the system inside Taotie could provide coordinates to other worlds and acquire origin energy. 28 Hongjun brought Taotie before Shichen and Pangu, who chose to exploit the system for the benefit of Hundun rather than destroy it. 28
Trivia
- Taotie's betrayal was motivated by survival, but the system mission gave him a direct incentive to kill Shen Ni. 22 23
- He initially believed Hongjun's disguised identity as Luo Hou was suspicious because the polite demeanor did not match the Luo Hou of his memories. 22
- Taotie's memories later enabled Hongjun to anticipate Luo Hou's scheme to draw the Qilin Clan into the Dragon-Phoenix conflict. 36
