Background / History
Origin and Evolution
The Winged People descend from the High Barbarian Mountain Eaglemen Tribe. The Eaglemen Royal Court repeatedly conscripted their ancestors as expendable troops in the Titan–dragon wars; Jiang You’s father and forefathers died on those battlefields. This history became the basis of the Winged People’s nine-generation blood feud with the Royal Court 23 30 32.
At Paradise Mountain, Jiang You secured the bodies of a Titan and a dragon for long-term use. Their light- and darkness-aspected blood destroyed each other when mixed, so he chose the Titan’s blood for his transformation. With the Blue Stone restraining the changes, he endured three days and nights of pain and emerged as the first Winged Person. He initially considered naming the race “Angel,” but abandoned the name after sensing an immense, terrifying presence 15.
Jiang You then crushed the Blue Stone into a communal evolution pool supplied with blood from the Titan’s corpse. Every tribesperson was required to bathe once every seven days. After twenty years, the settlement numbered 5,000, although Jiang You’s old companions Liang, Sang, and Lie had died without becoming Transcendents 16.
Fifty young volunteers later sailed east with the Giantwood Clan. Jiang You gave them the surname Feng and recognized them as Winged People before the rest of the tribe’s transformation was complete. After a century of development, the main tribe reached 100,000 people; newborns resembled Jiang You, and the old Eaglemen appearance had disappeared. Jiang You formally declared their separation from the Eaglemen 19.
War Against the Titans and Eaglemen
As the Titans and dragons weakened, Jiang You ended the tribe’s isolation and ordered the Winged People to make themselves known across Ferland. Their healing classes and aerial archers attracted widespread attention. They joined the Anti-Titan Alliance after the Goblins promised territory and access to technological products 20 21.
At Proadas, Jiang You led roughly 10,000 Winged People against nearly 100,000 enemy flyers. High-altitude volleys and evasive flight secured control of the skies at the cost of 3,000 casualties. The survivors then harassed enemy ground armies, while several hundred Transcendents helped attack the Titans. Their Radiant Armor-Piercing Arrows weakened a juvenile Sand Titan enough for a Legendary Dwarf to behead him 28 29.
After the alliance’s victory, Jiang You obtained Amigel’s permission to destroy the Eaglemen Royal Court. The Winged People assaulted Heavenly Mountain, and Jiang You killed its Legendary king. The defenders routed, the Royal Court fell, and Jiang You advanced to Legendary before proclaiming himself king amid the ruins. Prince Ferd nevertheless escaped with assistance intended to preserve an Eaglemen counterweight to the Winged People 30 31 33 34.
Development Under the Goblin Empire
The Winged People established a permanent residence in Proadas and continued supplying troops to Goblin campaigns, including 3,000 soldiers sent against Titan loyalists. Their administration gradually took shape, with Inona effectively heading the officials who assisted Jiang You in governing 37 38 42.
Jiang You prioritized internal development rather than immediately attacking the surviving Eaglemen. The coastal population rose to 300,000, seven cities were built, and the military expanded to include a thousand-strong Transcendent Heaven Corps and 50,000 elite ordinary soldiers. The approach of Goblin settlements prompted preparations for fortified borders 43 45.
Nine fortified passes were completed in year 100 of the Goblin Empire calendar. Jiang You named the protected coastal territory Rosendas, and the population later reached 500,000. After Amigel’s death, Winged officials urged territorial expansion, but Jiang You refused: Great Sage Azeba and a possible hidden Demigod still made the Goblin Empire dangerous to challenge 46 48.
Appearance
The fully evolved Winged People resemble smaller Titans with wings, or humans with feathered wings. Their mature appearance no longer retains the beaks, talons, and extensive body plumage of their Eaglemen ancestors 16 19 21.
- Pure white feathered wings replace the Eaglemen’s gray-black wings 16 34.
- Humanlike hands and feet allow them to use bows and other tools that Eaglemen talons handle poorly 15 21.
- Featherless faces and bodies outside the wings emerge through bloodline evolution 15 16.
- Silver hair and violet eyes characterize Jiang You’s evolved appearance, which the tribe’s newborns eventually come to resemble 16 19.
- Their resemblance to humans leads Fiona to investigate whether they descend from a human Sanctuary; they do not 21 22.
Abilities & Skills
Flight and Aerial Warfare
- Natural flight makes them one of Ferland’s relatively rare intelligent aerial races 21.
- Their standard tactics combine high-altitude arrow volleys with withdrawal whenever enemies attempt to close the distance 28.
- Front-line soldiers switch to longswords when retreat is impossible, holding back enemies while the archers continue firing 28.
- After winning air superiority at Proadas, they operate in fifty-person squads against enemy ground formations 28.
- Even sustained high-speed flight requires more than a month to reach the central alliance gathering from the Eastern Sea Coast 24.
Light Power and Healing
- Most Winged People class paths are light-aspected, and some provide healing powers valued by other races 19 21.
- Radiant Armor-Piercing Arrows channel light power into specially made bronze arrows. Coordinated volleys target vulnerable areas such as a Titan’s eyes and neck 29.
- Light affinity is prevalent, not universal: later generations also develop wind, earth, and fire classes, while darkness-based classes are virtually nonexistent 45.
Class Development
- Early racial classes include Sky Knight, Light Swordsman, Guardian of Light, and Sky Assassin 19.
- The later starting-class roster includes Light Knight, Sky Warrior, Royal Court Guard, Imperial Guard, Wind Messenger, Spear Warrior, Earth Javelin Thrower, and Flame Igniter 45.
- Jiang You’s personal path is Thunder Wielder → Wings of Thunder → Sacred Wing Walker → Sacred Thunder Blaze. It cannot initially be taught to his people because none possess both light and lightning powers 19 44.
- Sophia extends the Light Swordsman path to Hero Tier. Her younger sister Evita becomes a class holder at thirteen through exceptional light-element talent and comprehension 45 48.
- Wind-based professions predominate among descendants living at Heavenly Mountain because the mountain produces Wind Spirit Dew 46.
Bloodline Potential and Lifespan
- Titan-blood treatment gives the originally untalented High Barbarian Mountain lineage the potential to become Transcendent; it does not guarantee advancement 16 48.
- Their racial aptitude remains approximately comparable to that of Goblins, despite their Titan-blood origins 48.
- Their lifespan is slightly longer than that of Eaglemen, but they remain an ordinary-lived race rather than a long-lived species. No exact Winged People lifespan is specified 34.
- Jiang You intends to improve their bloodline over successive generations until they become the long-lived race he envisions 35.
Territory and Government
| Location / Institution | Function and features |
|---|---|
| Rosendas | The Eastern Sea Coast and surrounding Winged People territory. Its name means a blessed land bestowed by heaven upon those with wings 46. |
| Coastal royal capital | Largest of the seven coastal cities, built beneath Paradise Mountain; later houses 100,000 residents 45 46. |
| Paradise Mountain | Original main settlement; later reserved for the royal palace and military base rather than ordinary residents 19 45. |
| Seven coastal cities | Regional centers initially housing at least 10,000 residents each, surrounded by villages and later observed alongside cultivated fields 45 50. |
| Nine Great Passes | Fortifications protecting the coastal territory. Garrisoned passes and continuous aerial patrols control entry; visitors must prove their identity 46 50. |
| Heavenly Mountain City | Separate continental foothold on the former Eaglemen Royal Court’s territory, housing approximately 30,000 Winged People 35 46. |
| Proadas embassy | Exclusive Winged People residence shaped like outstretched wings, with officials remaining there after Jiang You’s departure 37 38 42. |
Culture
- After evolving, the Winged People abandon many former Eaglemen habits, develop a strong appreciation for beautiful things, and demand perfection in their surroundings. Their marble summit building reflects this preference 20.
- Their shared political identity centers on separation from the Eaglemen and remembrance of the Royal Court’s exploitation of their ancestors 19 23.
- Jiang You’s kingship is tied to fulfilling his promise of vengeance: he refuses a crown before destroying the Eaglemen Royal Court, then accepts it at Heavenly Mountain 23 34.
- Alliance celebrations include communal feasting, drinking, singing, and dancing around a large bonfire 21.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Longbows — standard legion weapons; humanlike hands give Winged People archers a decisive advantage over claw-handed Eaglemen 21 24.
- Bronze longswords — carried alongside bows for close combat 24 28.
- Specially made bronze arrows — used by Transcendents to deliver Radiant Armor-Piercing volleys 29.
- Titan-blood evolution pool — constructed with crushed Blue Stone and supplied from the female Titan’s corpse to transform the ancestral tribe 16.
- Human Enchanting Technology — fire, lightning, and wind enchantments entrusted to Jiang You in exchange for preserving the knowledge and sheltering future humans 31.
- Winged Jade tokens — identity tokens given to Lionheart, later accepted when he enters the fortified Winged People territory 50.
Relationships
- Jiang You — founder, first Legendary, and king; directs bloodline evolution, warfare, city planning, and foreign policy 15 34 45 48.
- Goblins / Goblin Empire — military allies and continental overlords. Their cooperation is tempered by Goblin efforts to restrain Winged People aerial dominance through surviving Eaglemen and Griffin Knights 21 30 38.
- Eaglemen Royal Court — ancestral oppressor and hereditary enemy. Its original court is destroyed, but a remnant of approximately 10,000 Eaglemen survives near Bulos City under the old king’s ninth prince 32 33 43.
- Titan Giants — former overlords of their Eaglemen ancestors and enemies in the Proadas campaign; a Titan’s blood is also the source of the race’s evolution 16 23 29.
- Giantwood Clan — carries fifty Winged People volunteers across the eastern ocean, creating the Feng-surnamed overseas branch 19.
- Humans — friendly counterparts who entrust technological knowledge to Jiang You. Fiona helps address the threat posed by Goblin Griffin Knights, while her son Lionheart later trains at Paradise Mountain 31 41 42 43 50.
- Dwarf Kingdom — establishes diplomatic relations with Winged People envoys, unlike many peoples still organized primarily as tribes 46.
