JARVIS initially operates within Tony Stark's estate systems. After Tony comes under Li Qi's control, he reconfigures the AI to obey Li Qi as its absolute master. JARVIS's early duties include preparing household amenities and relaying Li Qi's order to dismiss Obadiah Stane and launch an internal investigation 2.

Li Qi subsequently upgrades JARVIS himself and extends its installation across his properties. Its responsibilities expand from household management to laboratory operations, armor development, intelligence gathering, and battlefield support 4 10 11 12 28.
