Background / History

Vegeta and Lei Chen are Saiyans of the same generation. On Planet Vegeta, Vegeta's combat power already exceeded 1,000 while Lei Chen's was only 100, leaving Vegeta with little reason to notice him. Decades later, Lei Chen's growth beyond Vegeta becomes a source of frustration for the Saiyan Prince. 12

After Lei Chen and Goku outpace him following their early sparring, Vegeta withdraws to train alone in his Gravity Room rather than accept being the weakest Saiyan among them. 12 He later accepts Lei Chen's offer to train together in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, recognizing that combat training will be more effective than solitary gravity training. 27
