Background and history

Pursuit in the Warp

In the Warp, Lorgar seeks daemons to preach to, but an unseen force seals away his Chaos sorcery and psionic power. Unable to contact the Chaos gods or leave the area, he runs toward an altar, hoping to reach it before his pursuer catches him 820.

Believing the force belongs to a newly born god, Lorgar sacrifices Slaaneshi daemons and offers to spread the god’s name throughout the galaxy. The voice rejects him and announces Corax’s arrival. Corax, who has searched for Lorgar for ten thousand years, attacks him. Lorgar’s blessings return during the fight, allowing him to draw on Warp energy and escape Corax’s immediate grasp 821.

He Shenyan later removes Corax from the battlefield. Lorgar, intending to complete a blood sacrifice, briefly restrains Corax and tears apart a Bloodthirster that approaches him 822. In a later confrontation, Lorgar discovers that his godly blessing and the ascension he regarded as proof of his faith have been taken from him 823.

The god of mankind and the Round Table

A later account follows Lorgar as the Emperor tasks him with witnessing his departure and helping secure humanity’s future 987. Lorgar investigates a massive psionic outburst at Leigen with Captain-General Galahov, where they find recordings of flame-draped souls fighting and evidence that the innocent were spared 994 996.

After questioning captured traitors about the destruction of Macragge, Lorgar performs a ritual to contact the being he calls the god of mankind. It tells him that the Emperor is dead, says it possesses the Emperor’s memories but is not his father, and answers his prayer because he is human 999 1000. Lorgar subsequently learns of the threat called the Void and receives a diamond-shaped miracle to deliver 1011 1012.

The miracle takes him to a Round Table attended by the Emperor and several Primarchs. Lorgar struggles to reconcile them with his memories and reminds himself that this is not his world 1012. Later, he studies the occult in the hope of reviving his father’s spirituality 1064.

Appearance

Lorgar is a giant with golden skin. His ascended daemon body retains a loose humanoid shape; when his blessings return during the fight with Corax, he appears in a white robe with unblemished golden skin 820 821.

  • Characters inscribed on his skin writhe and change as he draws the attention of the Chaos gods 822.
  • His daemon form can grow into a towering creature whose appearance overtakes his former one 822.

Personality

Lorgar is a gifted speaker who seeks an audience even among daemons. In the Warp, he treats displays of divine power as signs of a possible patron and offers his loyalty to a god whose preferences he does not know. He Shenyan judges that Lorgar’s apparent zeal conceals a devotion to power itself 820 821 822.

In the later account, Lorgar remains intent on understanding divinity but questions what a god’s power or affection might mean for humanity. He treats the Emperor’s death with grief, continues seeking answers, and insists that someone must remember history 987 1000 1011 1033.
