Power Progression
Magic plants do not share a single documented advancement sequence. The following developments concern individual specimens cultivated or modified by Kroya.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sunflowers — spell inscription | 1 2 | Kroya inscribes the second-rank Sunflare Ray into twelve seeds, enabling sunlight collection, sunflame storage, and commanded attacks. |
| Thirsty Sea Glow Algae — water/fire transition | 9 | Inscription of the first movement of Song of Red allows activity outside seawater and nighttime, improves meditation through singing, and begins a transition toward dual water/fire power. |
| Sunflowers — maturity and spell assimilation | 10 11 | Growth potions and mana accelerate maturation. The plants produce magical seeds and can track targets, but reject additional spell effects while assimilating their existing inscription. |
| Magic-Storing Hanging Flask Grass — specialized flasks | 16 | Fire Spirit Purification and Water Restoration Art are inscribed into separate flasks, giving them distinct cultivation requirements and potential effects on stored liquids. |
| Sunflower — mutation seed | 17 | A sunflower absorbs Kroya’s scarlet mana and burns away, leaving a ruby-like seed containing altered astral patterns and magic resembling his own. Kroya replants it. |
| Coconut tree — awakened magic plant | 34 | Waterlight essence, a Nature Mana Crystal, and mana-rich spring water complete its transformation. The Beginner Summoning Spell produces a Pure White Sea Spirit Coconut that summons helpers. |
| Red Sunflower — elemental mutation and emerging soul | 46 | Influence from Song of Red produces a music-emitting plant capable of several spells. Its music strengthens nearby sunflowers, and it is gradually developing a soul. |
| Magic Field Grape Vine — rapid establishment | 50 | Fed sunflower mana and planted with special magic soil, the vine covers one mu in less than ten minutes, establishing a canopy and mana-supplying root network. |
Classification and Traits
- Ranked varieties: Documented ranks include tier-two Magic-Storing Hanging Flask Grass, soothing lilies, and thicksoil potatoes, as well as fifth-level Moonlight Dewgrass 1 15 48.
- Astral Spirit Bodies: Magical plants have internal astral structures that Kroya can inspect and, in compatible specimens, inscribe with spells 1 16.
- Awakening: A plant can absorb mana without yet qualifying as a magic plant. Reef Island’s coconuts initially occupy this intermediate state before cultivation transforms one into a Pure White Sea Spirit Coconut 6 34.
- Elemental varieties: Rare elemental magic plants have physical forms constructed from elements. Their growth can be extremely slow or rapid depending on available mana 49.
- Individual preferences: Separate parts of a plant can express different desires. Hanging Flask Grass’s three flasks respectively seek fire, water, and “mixing” 16.
- Plantlike appearance is not decisive: The Woodstar Curving Vine King is identified by Kroya’s technique as a magical beast, despite retaining roots and requiring soil, water, and mana after Ilyst’s modification 23 30.
Known Varieties
| Plant | Rank / Type | Properties and Uses |
|---|---|---|
| Sunflower | Rank unstated; Kroya’s specimens bear a second-rank spell | Stores sunlight-derived sunflame power in crystal-like seeds and fires on command. Mature plants have scarlet petals and reach approximately a person’s height 1 2 11. |
| Red Sunflower | Elemental mutation | Emits magical music, casts multiple spells, strengthens nearby sunflowers, and is developing a soul 46 49. |
| Thirsty Sea Glow Algae | Possibly tier three; Kroya’s inference | Inscribed colonies sing to improve meditation and gradually shift from water to dual water/fire power. Kroya estimates their rank from the complexity of their astral structure 9 16. |
| Magic-Storing Hanging Flask Grass | Tier two | Grows potion-holding flasks that prevent potency loss and may eventually strengthen their contents. Kroya’s specimen produces three 500-milliliter flasks 15 16. |
| Pure White Sea Spirit Coconut | Awakened coconut tree | Produces mana-rich coconut water and flesh. Kroya’s inscribed tree summons Water Slimes to assist its growth 34 35. |
| Sea Spirit Lingzhi | Rank unstated | A potion-making plant cultivated using Sea Spirit Pearls; grows best in a marine environment 26 38. |
| Soothing Lily | Tier two | Beginner-friendly plant useful for meditation 48. |
| Thicksoil Potato | Tier two | High-yield crop that strengthens the body. Despite its name, it is not earth- or soil-aspected 48 50. |
| Magic Field Grape Vine | Rare elemental plant | Spreads mana-supplying roots and produces grapes that drip elemental liquid mana. Its six secondary vines can be attuned to different elements 49. |
| Moonlight Dewgrass | Fifth level | Supposedly possessed only by elves; offered as the prize in the three-year territorial-development challenge that led to Kroya’s exile 1. |
| Trade Wind Grass | Rank unstated | Common among elves; apparently woven into the cord of the Wind Sprite Feather Pendant 19. |
| Platinum-white mushroom | Rank unknown | Formed from the remaining power of a drained Void Luminary Crystal. Purifies holy radiance from sacred white iron; later contains a sleeping, winged humanoid resembling an angel 39 50. |
Cultivation
Mana Supply and Magic Fields
- Barren-land treatment: The Magic Field Method makes magic crystals extend orderly “mana roots” through the soil, supplying plants with mana and gradually transforming the land 5.
- Elemental soil adjustment: Once mana permeates the soil, flame or frost potions can alter its composition to suit plants of the corresponding attribute 5.
- Watering and growth potions: Kroya uses Magic Spring Pearl–enriched water and growth-accelerating potions to nurture his sunflowers and stimulate the coconut grove 10 11.
- Rank-dependent requirements: Low-tier plants generally need sufficient mana and fertilizer, while some high-tier varieties require specially prepared environments 50.
- Overconcentration: Kroya rejects a compact version of the Guild’s large-scale field array because its mana concentration would require at least tier-four plants to withstand it 48.
Compatibility and Planting Density
- Dense planting: Low-tier plants of the same species can tolerate very dense planting if mana and fertilizer are sufficient. Conflicting mana between species can instead kill them 50.
- Compatible mixed crops: Soothing lilies and thicksoil potatoes lack pronounced mana affinities, allowing Kroya to plant them together beneath the grape vine 50.
- Guild recommendations: Suggested densities are 400 soothing lilies or 600 thicksoil potatoes per mu. Kroya allocates half a mu each to his 140 lilies and 280 potatoes 50.
Awakening and Mutation
- Mana stimulation: Most first-level magic plants can be created through mana stimulation. The coconut grove approaches awakening through repeated irrigation with mana-rich water 34.
- Conventional modification: Environmental changes, grafting, supplementary potions, and exposure to mana can alter plant habits and structures 16 38.
- Elemental rejection: Introducing another type of magical power can provoke severe rejection. Successful adaptation ordinarily requires years or decades of selection across successive generations 38.
- Overstimulation: Vitality Potions above tier three contain natural mana better suited to magic plants; they can overwhelm and kill ordinary crops. Some elven acceleration methods also leave plants needing prolonged recovery 33.
- Experimental uncertainty: Kroya’s successful Red Sunflower mutation is not reliably reproducible—his attempt to repeat it destroys another sunflower 46.
Reproduction and Seed Preservation
- Luminary essences: Refined essences from the Seven Luminary Crystals help plants and beasts of matching attributes reproduce 25.
- Seed storage: The crystal box containing Kroya’s initial crop seeds can preserve their vitality for decades 1.
- Sunflower propagation: Producing sunflower seeds capable of growing into new plants requires special methods and materials, limiting uncontrolled propagation of Kroya’s crop 19.
- Guild restrictions: Purchased soothing lilies and thicksoil potatoes lose vitality after two reproductive generations. Their preservation formula requires Level Four Guild membership and costs 1,000 tier-two magic crystals 48.
Abilities & Skills
Astral Spirit Inscription
Kroya’s Astral Body Inscription Technique embeds spells into compatible plants’ Astral Spirit Bodies, granting the corresponding abilities 1.
- Compatibility limit: Not every magic plant is eligible, and Kroya must already know the spell he wishes to inscribe 2.
- Attribute matching: His original sunflowers respond to fire magic, with Sunflare Ray providing the appropriate compatibility 2.
- Supporting resources: Certain inscriptions require matching cultivation materials or mana sources; Water Restoration Art needs Water Luminary power and gentle water magic during growth 1 16.
- Spell refinement: Sunflowers and the summoning coconut can refine their inscribed spells while growing 1 34.
- Desire as a possible driver: Kroya theorizes that strong desires and environmental pressure can guide inscription and development. His proposed experiment placing water plants in a fire environment remains untested in the provided chapters 34 38.
Mana Collection and Transfer
- Sunlight storage: Inscribed sunflowers accumulate sunflame power and store unused energy in their seeds; attack strength depends on accumulated power 1.
- Renewable harvesting: Mature sunflower seeds regrow after picking. Kroya later collects the ten ordinary sunflowers’ accumulated power through pipes, assisted by the Red Sunflower’s music 46.
- Direct extraction: Magic Drain transfers stored power into Kroya, but its pleasurable effect causes him to nearly drain a sunflower dry 17.
- Terrain transformation: The Magic Field Grape Vine combines spreading roots with dripping elemental mana to transform surrounding land 49.
Autonomous Assistance
- Targeting: A mature sunflower turns toward and kills a passing seagull after Kroya’s mental command 11.
- Mutual-aid summons: The coconut tree shares magical water and flesh with Water Slimes, which fetch water for its roots. Kroya can also command them 34 35.
- Musical support: The Red Sunflower’s music accelerates nearby sunflowers’ growth and mana accumulation while increasing the strength of their inscribed spells 46.
Economic and Story Significance
Magic-plant cultivation is central to Kroya’s territorial-development plans. His predecessor’s interest in farming is exploited through the challenge offering Moonlight Dewgrass; a supportive friend subsequently provides the crop seeds that enable Kroya’s first inscription experiments 1.
On Reef Island, Kroya first establishes a protected sunflower field at the castle, then expands into coconut cultivation, potion production, and a one-mu experimental field beneath the Magic Field Grape Vine 5 34 36 50.
- Seed sales: Sai Liu pays twelve gold coins for twelve magical sunflower seeds. Demand from the Northern Territory Envoy’s son later places the merchant under pressure to obtain more 19 36.
- Potion ingredients: Pure White Sea Spirit Coconut water becomes a second-tier Sea Spirit Coconut Potion, bottled in a magically preserved coconut shell 35 36.
- High-value sunflame: A potion made from sunflower power attracts a Guild expert’s attention for its sunlight and life-force mana. Seagull initially offers twenty grade-one crystals per bottle; Kroya later negotiates thirty for the experimental Morning Dew Potion 46 47 48.
- Sustainable investment: Kroya prioritizes magic fields and plant seeds over a Tower Spirit because crops can provide ongoing income 47.
- Expanding infrastructure: The grape vine replaces crystal-based mana roots with a growing plant network, supporting further cultivation around Castle Back Hill 49 50.
