Background / History
Loss of His Parents
Aron lived in the wild with his parents, protected by his powerful father. His initial recollection describes enemies surrounding and killing his father, while his mother confronted them alone to give Aron time to escape. He fled through the night during heavy rain and reached the mine with damaged facial armor and bloody wounds. A Pokémon Center doctor inferred that the attackers had been trying to seize his family’s territory 38.
Uncle Ma found him surrounded by concerned Machamp. Aron initially roared and resisted their approach, but calmed down once he understood that they were treating him. Uncle Ma and a Machamp took him to a Pokémon Center, where a doctor repaired his armor with a Metal Coat and treated his external injuries 38.
The Machamp helped Aron recover emotionally and became his new family. In return, he brought them crates of drinking water whenever they finished work, also offering bottles to Uncle Ma and Cheng Tian 38.
A later shared dream reveals more of his childhood and the attack. His parents were both Aggron, and the family lived comfortably in an abandoned, ore-rich mine. His father patrolled the mountain and fought fiercely against threats, but was gentle with his mate and child, supplying Aron with both ore and nutritious meat 293.
The attackers were a group of people in black raincoats who intended to use the mine as a base. Their leader deployed a Tyranitar with a scar across its left eye, while numerous other Pokémon overwhelmed the Aggron couple. This establishes human involvement beyond the doctor’s original territorial-dispute hypothesis 293 294.
Mine Collapse and Rescue
Cheng Tian befriended Aron by offering him Pokémon food and introducing him to Froakie. He wanted Aron for his future team, but Uncle Ma insisted that Aron had to consent to leaving—and warned that the protective Machamp would object otherwise 39.
When the mine collapsed, Froakie knocked Aron out of danger, and the Machamp leader helped protect them. Aron then tried to return to the mine because other Machamp were trapped inside. Cheng Tian joined him, and Aron located the buried entrance through his Rock-type senses 39.
Aron helped push rubble aside and accompanied Cheng Tian and Froakie into the tunnel. Cheng Tian shielded him from a falling support beam, suffering a shoulder injury. After helping retrieve a Potion, Aron continued searching and detected movement near the trapped Machamp. The group rescued three injured Machamp and survived another collapse under their Protect barriers 40 41.
Joining Cheng Tian
After the rescue, Cheng Tian offered to help Aron become strong enough to avenge his parents. Aron hesitated between the security of life at the mine and his desire for revenge. Cheng Tian left a Poké Ball for him and allowed him to choose freely 41.
Aron stopped Cheng Tian’s departing car, touched the Poké Ball’s button, and willingly became his second Pokémon. The Machamp leader and the others gathered to wave goodbye as he left 41.
At Cheng Tian’s home, his mother welcomed Aron into the family. That night, Aron watched Yang Yonggang’s Mega Aggron win a World Pokémon League battle. Recognizing Aggron as his father’s species, he resolved to become equally strong; Cheng Tian assured him that he could eventually achieve that form 42.
Aron later began voluntarily wiping the household floor with a rag beneath his feet. Although he had previously lived in a mine, he disliked seeing dust spoil the family’s clean floor, earning particular affection from Cheng Tian’s mother 60.
Jingxi Road Mission
Aron joined Cheng Tian’s friends in confronting the Mightyena and Poochyena troubling pedestrians on Jingxi Road. He sealed their escape routes with Rock Tomb, blocked Mightyena’s counterattack with Metal Claw, and withstood attacks from two Poochyena 48.
He finished Mightyena with Dragon Rush followed by Body Slam. The victory raised him to level 12, and the captured pack was handed over to Bingzhou’s Stray Pokémon Center 48 49.
Early Battles and School Competition
In school battles, Aron defeated Panpour by blocking its attempted Low Kick with Protect, then using Head Smash and Body Slam. He subsequently overpowered Spoink’s Zen Headbutt with Dragon Rush and finished it with Metal Claw 65.
Against Wen Zhe, Scyther exploited Aron's poor speed, repeatedly attacking from changing positions before withdrawing with U-turn. Heracross then survived Aron's attacks and defeated him despite being paralyzed by Thunder Wave; its Guts Ability made the paralysis advantageous to its offense. Cheng Tian apologized for his commands, and Frogadier went on to defeat both opposing Pokémon 68.
Aron later defeated Chouyou’s Stunky after raising his defenses with Harden and Iron Defense. His finishing Body Slam caused Stunky to spray him with an unpleasant liquid, requiring Cheng Tian to take him for cleaning 82.
During Bingzhou No. 1 High School’s final group-stage matches, Aron defeated Seel and then drew with Dwebble through a double knockout. In the team battle, he fought alongside Sylveon and Sandile, shielding Sylveon with Protect and charging Jolteon through its Thunderbolt. The team won and advanced as the first-place team in its group 96.
Winter Travel and Training
Cheng Tian’s father gave him special Poké Balls, and Aron was transferred into a Heavy Ball that he liked. Aron and Frogadier later alerted Cheng Tian when the Pokémon Egg began to hatch 112.
During the train journey toward Shangjing, Aron kept Rockruff company on the lower berth while other Pokémon gathered above 119.
In a Pokémon World Championships match against Yu Fei, Aron battled a level-20 Munchlax. After both sides spent several minutes raising their defenses, Aron paralyzed Munchlax and attacked with Rock Tomb, Body Slam, and Head Smash. Munchlax’s eventual Earthquake inexplicably struck itself, while Aron used Protect, giving Aron the victory 129.
On White Horse Mountain, Aron defeated a level-20 Ledian with support from Noibat’s Tailwind, reaching level 20 himself. He subsequently awakened Fighting-type Hidden Power, which strengthened his muscles rather than matching the Grass-type coverage Cheng Tian had hoped for 142 147.
Armor Development and Gravity Training
Granny Du used her level-20 Gulpin to demonstrate the limits of relying on conventional type advantages. Its specially refined poison corroded Aron's Steel armor, while Clear Smog removed his accumulated Defense boosts. Gulpin trapped his head in its body and defeated him with Water Pulse and Poison Jab 164.
The loss prompted Cheng Tian to investigate changing Aron's armor material. Yang Yonggang explained that replacing it through diet alone could take more than ten years, then introduced Aron to his level-65 Aggron. Despite the pressure in the gravity room, Aron used Fighting-type Hidden Power to raise his head and look at his idol, earning Aggron’s approval 168 169.
Yang Yonggang supplied a tungsten-steel Metal Coat and instructed Cheng Tian to apply it externally, then let combat wear down the armor so the new material could be absorbed. During battles with a Beedrill colony, Aron deliberately endured attacks that helped the coating fuse with his original armor 169 176.
Yang Yonggang later applied Metal Coat with a massage technique and tested Aron in the gravity chamber. Aron endured the fifth setting with help from Hidden Power, and approximately thirty minutes of training raised that move’s proficiency to level 4. Measurement showed that five percent of his armor had been replaced 196.
Cheng Tian regularly left Aron in the chamber during classes. Gravity helped him adapt to his growing weight and compacted the new armor, while Aggron taught him Rock Polish, Hone Claws, and Shadow Claw. By level 29, Aron weighed 150 kilograms, though the armor replacement still required at least another month 223.
Training Camp Challenges
During the month-end elimination challenge, Aron faced a level-25 Fighting/Fire-type Tauros. He used Thunder Wave and his Heavenly Gang Vajra Body enhancement sequence before attacking with Iron Head and Dragon Rush. His tungsten-steel skull broke both of Tauros’s horns with Head Smash, and Body Slam finished the battle 226.
His improved defenses also encouraged overconfidence. During the subsequent gauntlet, he began taking attacks recklessly and was eventually knocked out after enduring Hitmonlee’s High Jump Kick head-on 228.
In Cheng Tian’s midterm battle against Song Yinghan, Aron replaced the badly injured Floette and avoided the effects of Toxic Spikes. Although Drapion stopped his Dragon Rush, Aron wounded it with attacks including Head Smash and Metal Claw and inflicted paralysis. Drapion’s superior strength, Night Slash, and Earthquake ultimately defeated him 241.
Aron later reunited joyfully with the mine Machamp. Their leader scooped him into a hug but was surprised by how much heavier he had become, nearly failing to lift him 252.
Shared Dream and the Aggron Mega Stone
In a Quiet Room, Aron was drawn to a large, dark, magnetic mass of ore that felt exceptionally nourishing. After he and Cheng Tian fell asleep on it, they entered a dream of Aron's past, with Cheng Tian initially unable to touch Aron or make himself visible. Sara observed that their bond was growing stronger 292 293.
During the dream’s replay of the attack on Aron's parents, a black-clad attacker ordered Hitmonlee to kill Aron. Cheng Tian eventually became tangible and shielded Aron from its blows, prompting Aron to remember him. Aron's father destroyed Hitmonlee with Flash Cannon before the exhausted Aggron couple unleashed Metal Burst in a final act of resistance 294.
Sara subsequently revealed that the apparent ore was the remains of an Aggron that had died centuries earlier. His Lucario extracted an Aggron Mega Stone from it. Cheng Tian renewed his promise to protect Aron and help him become strong enough to avenge his parents 295 296.
Evolution into Lairon
At level 31, Aron was judged close to evolution. Yang Yonggang offered a Body Press TM for use after he evolved and recommended that he evolve during battle while experiencing the Aggron Mega Stone’s power. He suggested Trial Peak as a suitable, dangerous training destination 303.
At Manectric’s lightning-struck training hill, Aron repeatedly endured lightning while Cheng Tian supplied Pokéblocks, Berries, and further Metal Coat treatments. Some bolts nearly knocked him unconscious, and a particularly powerful strike scorched parts of his tungsten-steel armor. Despite the pain and the storm’s resemblance to the night of his parents’ deaths, he endured silently 307.
The training brought Aron to evolution. As Lairon, he stood 1.2 meters tall and had a much longer armored body. He reported no discomfort beyond feeling heavier, learned Metal Sound, and showed gratitude to Manectric for helping make the breakthrough possible 308.
Return to His Former Home
As Lairon, he returned with Cheng Tian to an illegal mining site in Qinzhou, believed to be his former home, determined to avenge his parents. Officer Xing coordinated nearly eight hundred police officers in a raid, while Yang Yonggang accompanied Cheng Tian as the operation encountered powerful resistance 474.
During the confrontation, Lairon underwent his final ordinary evolution into Aggron. His limbs and posture changed, his body expanded dramatically, and a massive iron tail formed. Upon emerging from the evolutionary light, he immediately struck with his left fist, his blue eyes displaying killing intent 478.
On a later visit, Cheng Tian recalled that the mine was where he had first used Mega Evolution. The criminal gang had been rounded up, and the abandoned mine was subsequently protected as a priority ecological-restoration site 699.
Appearance
In his original Aron form, he has a compact, round body beneath steel armor 38.
- Coloring: Dark-gray body and pale-blue eyes 38.
- Build: Large, round head and four short, sturdy legs 38.
- Armor: Covers parts of his head, legs, and back; a horn projects from his back 38.
- Head openings: Six holes, three on each side; the two largest serve as his eye openings 38.
- Developing armor: Metal Coat treatments initially darken his coloring. His increasingly heavy steps leave small pits in the ground, and the replacement armor later becomes silver-white to silver-gray, visibly thicker and heavier 199 223.
- Weight: Reaches 150 kilograms while still an Aron 223.
Lairon Form
After his first evolution, he resembles a long-bodied crocodile or lizard clad in heavy armor, but without a tail. He stands 1.2 meters tall, nearly matching Frogadier’s height, and his movements produce dull, heavy thumps 308.
Aggron Form
His final ordinary evolution changes him from a low, four-legged tank into an upright behemoth. His hind legs thicken, his forelegs rise, and his body expands several times over. An enormous iron tail grows behind him, while the gap in his forehead gives way to metal spikes. His sapphire-blue eyes remain prominent 478.
Personality
Aron is affectionate and grateful toward those who care for him. His regular water deliveries repay the Machamp’s kindness, and his determination to rescue them overrides warnings about the collapsed mine. Although initially distrustful while injured, he becomes receptive once he recognizes genuine help 38 39.
His parents’ deaths leave him grieving and conscious of his own weakness. During the rescue, he wishes he possessed his father’s strength and blames himself when Cheng Tian is injured protecting him. His desire for revenge becomes a commitment to training, later given a concrete ideal by Mega Aggron’s performance 40 41 42.
He is considerate in everyday life, voluntarily cleaning Cheng Tian’s home because dust on an otherwise clean floor bothers him. He is also patient with Noibat, chatting with the younger Pokémon and reassuring it through stories of his own difficult wild life and subsequent improvement 60 148.
His determination earns the approval of Yang Yonggang’s Aggron when he forces himself to raise his head under intense gravity. He later endures repeated lightning strikes without crying out, despite severe pain and memories of the storm in which his family was attacked 169 307.
Aron enjoys the extravagant name Heavenly Gang Vajra Body and trains the associated combination particularly enthusiastically. His confidence can become recklessness: after discovering how tough his modified armor has become, he begins accepting attacks too freely and is knocked out during a gauntlet 226 228.
Abilities & Skills
Heavy Metal
Aron’s Hidden Ability doubles his weight compared with an ordinary Aron 38.
- Uncle Ma cannot lift him, and even Machamp must exert substantial effort to carry him 38.
- His increased weight makes Body Slam particularly punishing; the move knocks Mightyena unconscious after Dragon Rush sends it flying 48.
- As his level and weight increase, Body Slam becomes more likely to inflict paralysis 144.
- The narrative also attributes a substantial increase in the force of his physical moves to Heavy Metal 200.
- His weight creates vulnerabilities against weight-dependent attacks such as Low Kick, which Cheng Tian blocks with Protect during the Panpour battle 65.
- Increasing armor weight initially worsens his already poor mobility, prompting training to help him adapt 168 223.
Armor and Physical Defense
His steel armor provides effective protection against physical attacks 38 48.
- Two Poochyena fail to penetrate his defenses with Bite 48.
- He uses Metal Claw to lock against Mightyena’s Fury Swipes, preventing the counterattack 48.
- His armor is not invulnerable: he arrives at the mine with broken facial armor requiring repair 38.
- Harden and Iron Defense can be combined to raise his defenses enough that Stunky’s claws leave no marks 82.
- Ordinary Poison-type hazards such as Toxic Spikes do not affect him. Granny Du’s specially refined corrosive toxins are an exception and damage his armor despite his Steel typing 164 199 241.
- Clear Smog can remove his accumulated Defense boosts 164.
- Improved armor does not eliminate the danger of powerful Fighting- and Ground-type attacks; Hitmonlee’s High Jump Kick and Drapion’s Earthquake contribute to later defeats 228 241.
Tungsten-Steel Armor
Yang Yonggang’s special Metal Coat allows Aron's original armor to be gradually replaced with tungsten steel. External application and controlled wear in battle promote absorption, while gravity training accelerates fusion and compacts the material 169 176 196 223.
- Diet alone could change the material, but Yang Yonggang estimates that complete replacement in Aron's current form would take more than ten years 169.
- The gravity chamber’s pressure rapidly improves absorption; five percent replacement is measured after the early training session 196.
- The modified armor substantially increases hardness and weight, strengthening attacks such as Head Smash while reducing recoil to an extent 226.
- The replacement is nearing completion by the midterm battle against Song Yinghan 241.
- Even tungsten-steel armor can be scorched by sufficiently powerful lightning 307.
Fighting-Type Hidden Power
Aron's Hidden Power awakens as Fighting-type rather than the Grass type Cheng Tian hoped would help cover his Ground weakness. Instead of only firing the energy outward, Aron draws it into his body to increase muscular strength 147.
- Allows him to raise his head before Yang Yonggang’s Aggron despite the gravity room’s pressure 169.
- Helps him continue moving under gravity that otherwise nearly immobilizes him 196.
- Reaches proficiency level 4 during gravity training 196.
- Becomes part of his standard self-enhancement combination 226.
Heavenly Gang Vajra Body
Heavenly Gang Vajra Body is Cheng Tian’s name for Aron's opening enhancement sequence: Iron Defense + Rock Polish + Hone Claws + Fighting-type Hidden Power. It combines defensive reinforcement, improved mobility, offensive preparation, and increased muscular strength before he charges into close combat 226.
- Shen Gun supplies the name, which Cheng Tian approves 226.
- Aron particularly likes the name and works hard to practice the combination 226.
- Thunder Wave can precede the sequence to hinder the opponent while Aron prepares 226.
Rock-Type Sensing
Aron can use Rock-type power to sense his surroundings 39 40.
- Locates the mine entrance beneath the collapse debris 39.
- Detects movement ahead while searching for trapped Machamp 40.
- Does not immediately sense the Machamp upon entering the tunnel; the group must travel deeper before he finds a sign of them 40.
Moves
The initial stat panel distinguishes inherited Egg Moves from other known moves; the listed move levels reflect their recorded proficiency 38.
| Category | Documented Moves |
|---|---|
| Egg Moves | Endeavor (lv2), Dragon Rush (lv1), Head Smash (lv3), Body Slam (lv3), Stealth Rock (lv1) 38 |
| Known moves at debut | Tackle (lv2), Harden (lv4), Metal Claw (lv3), Rock Tomb (lv2), Roar (lv1) 38 |
| Later learned move | Protect; proficiency level not specified 45 |
| Later demonstrated moves | Thunder Wave, Bulldoze, Iron Defense, Iron Head, Rock Slide 68 72 82 200 226 |
| Level-up move | Headbutt (lv0 when learned) 74 |
| Hidden Power | Fighting-type; reaches proficiency level 4 147 196 |
| Moves taught by Yang Yonggang’s Aggron | Rock Polish, Hone Claws, Shadow Claw 223 |
| Move learned upon evolving into Lairon | Metal Sound 308 |
| Planned post-evolution TM | Body Press; offered by Yang Yonggang, but successful learning is not documented in the supplied passages 303 |
- Rock Tomb: Drops rings of rocks around Mightyena’s pack to block every escape route. It can also create cover against incoming Water Gun attacks 48 96.
- Dragon Rush: Surrounds himself with Dragon-type energy forming a small dragon silhouette, then charges into Mightyena 48.
- Protect: Produces a pale-green energy shield after Froakie helps him understand the TM instructions. The barrier can break when an attack exceeds what his remaining stamina can withstand 45 68.
- Thunder Wave: Cheng Tian purchases a TM to give Aron a paralysis option. Successful use is later demonstrated against Heracross and Misdreavus, among other opponents 44 68 191.
- Head Smash: Delivers a powerful skull-first strike but causes recoil because Aron has Heavy Metal rather than Rock Head. Tungsten-steel armor later reduces that recoil to an extent 65 74 200 226.
- Headbutt: Provides a less powerful, recoil-free alternative to Head Smash 74.
- Stealth Rock: Creates rings of sharp rocks that become invisible after being placed around the battlefield 96.
- Rock Slide: His demonstrated version drops a single exceptionally large rock rather than a shower of smaller ones 226.
- Iron Head and Head Smash combination: Uses Iron Head to harden his head before following with Head Smash against Drapion 241.

— Aron's thoughts while leaving the mine 41
“I’m going to be just as strong!”
— Aron's resolve after watching Mega Aggron 42
Trivia
- Cheng Tian interprets the inherited Dragon Rush as evidence of Dragon-type ancestry; this is his inference rather than a confirmed family history 38.
- Aron's capture completes the system mission Second Bloom, awarding Cheng Tian a Sea Incense that he gives to Froakie 41 42.
- Aron watches anime with Froakie but shows curiosity rather than much enjoyment 42.
- Chapter 117 reports that Aron learns Roar at level 19, although Roar already appears at proficiency level 1 on his initial stat panel 38 117.
- Cheng Tian wanted Grass-type Hidden Power to address Aron's quadruple Ground weakness, but Aron instead awakened Fighting-type Hidden Power despite also having a quadruple weakness to Fighting 147.
- The elaborate name Heavenly Gang Vajra Body originates with Shen Gun, and Aron likes it despite its intentionally over-the-top character 226.
- Chapter 223 explicitly records his weight as 150 kilograms before evolution, while Cheng Tian’s later impression during the Lairon evolution scene describes his weight as about to exceed that figure 223 308.
- The apparently nourishing ore in the Quiet Room is actually the remains of an ancient Aggron, explaining Aron's attraction to it 292 295.
